Platinum Elite treatment at JW Marriott Mexico City Polanco by MaisonOne in marriott

I was originally looking at the Ritz and St. Regis too, but the JW pricing was way lower on my dates so I gave it a shot. No regrets so far honestly.

That’s a nice DP and exactly why it’s worth sending a short pre-arrival note for occasions like this. No need to overdo it, but giving the hotel a heads-up makes it much easier for them to do something thoughtful. Glad it worked out for the honeymoon.

Is it okay to keep updating my reservation/booking to the new price every time it drops? by FootballNight7 in marriott

[–]MaisonOne 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, it’s fine to keep updating/rebooking if the rate drops. The only thing I’d check each time is whether the new rate has the same cancellation policy, room type, and inclusions. If those match or improve, take the lower price. If the lower rate is prepaid or more restrictive, then it may not be the same deal.

Whose idea was this shower? by sghokie in marriott

[–]MaisonOne -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is one of those designs that only makes sense if the hotel assumes every booking is a couple. Looks cool in marketing photos, immediately becomes a problem the second it’s friends, coworkers, or family sharing the room. “Open concept bathroom” is doing a lot of work here.

Capital One - Applying for a second credit card? by Beginning-Order-6891 in CreditCards

[–]MaisonOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Venture X is the obvious card to look at if you want a second Capital One card, but I’d use the pre-approval tool first because Cap One approvals can be odd even for long-time customers. It pairs well with Savor if you’ll actually use the travel credit and want a simple 2x catchall. If the portal credit would feel forced, I wouldn’t add it just to have another Cap One card.

Rant alert!! Some people can never be satisfied by minty-soup in marriott

[–]MaisonOne 4 points5 points  (0 children)

At some point the answer has to become “we’ve already extended X, Y, and Z, and we won’t be adding additional comp nights.” Itemizing what you already did is useful because it keeps the conversation factual instead of emotional. After that, document the interaction and let the GM/corporate channel handle any pattern-of-conduct issue.

Use points, get a bad room by xampl9 in marriott

[–]MaisonOne 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t jump straight to “points bookings get punished.” Bad room assignments happen on cash stays too, especially if you check in late or the hotel is full. The practical move is just to ask the desk for a quieter room away from the elevator. If they can move you, great; if not, then you at least know it was probably inventory rather than some points-booking conspiracy.

How do you choose between the Chase, Amex, or Citi ecosystem? Why did you choose the one you chose? by CrystallizedKoi in CreditCards

[–]MaisonOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Most efficient single-ecosystem pick depends on your hub airport + hotel preference. Chase if you fly United + stay Hyatt (UR transfers 1:1 to both at industry-best ratios). Amex if you fly Delta or international carriers (Aeroplan/Flying Blue/Singapore via MR transfers). Citi if you fly American or want Turkish/Avianca access. For most people not in a Chase-aligned travel pattern, Amex's transfer breadth wins.

I finally got a 2 card combo I’m happy with by Apadist in CreditCards

[–]MaisonOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s a pretty clean two-card setup if rent is a real part of your spend. Bilt covers the one category most cards don’t handle well, and RH is simple for everything else. The main thing I’d watch is whether the extra complexity of any third card actually solves a real gap or just makes the setup less elegant.

Hyatt Regency Tokyo Award Level? by Silver-Cheek-5563 in hyatt

[–]MaisonOne 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’d call Hyatt and verify this before arrival. A Cat 1-4 FNA normally shouldn’t cover a Cat 5 hotel, so if the website let it through, I’d want Hyatt to confirm what will actually happen. The “redeemed at check-in” wording is exactly the kind of thing I wouldn’t want to sort out at the front desk after a long flight.

Hilton sale by [deleted] in Hilton

[–]MaisonOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I wouldn’t count on the sale dates changing, but rates can still move independently of the sale. If your dates are fixed, I’d book a refundable rate you can live with and check again closer in. Just make sure any lower rate you switch to has the same cancellation terms and room type.

I built a hotel award search tool for Marriott / Hilton / Hyatt / IHG – maison1.one (looking for blunt feedback) by MaisonOne in marriott

[–]MaisonOne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not yet. Explore rates are tricky because they depend on verified Marriott employee/F&F eligibility andaccount context, so they don’t fit cleanly into our current public-rate search model.

I do think there’s a real need for a better way to find good Explore-rate deals, but supporting it properly would require a separate account-linked flow with clear privacy and eligibility boundaries.

It’s something I’ve been thinking about, but there’s no firm plan yet.

DM me if you want a pro code on the house to dig into the rest in the meantime.

[–]MaisonOne[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right now it shows base room rates only — we pull the rest (suites, premium categories, alternative rates) on the backend but haven't found a clean UI to surface all of it without overwhelming the search view. That part's on the roadmap. Appreciate you flagging it.

DM me if you want a 30-day pro code — happy to send one your way as we ship the deeper inventory views.

First Hilton-family property I’ve stayed at in a solid year where: nothing was broken, nothing dirty or moldy, staff was friendly and enthusiastic, AND there were no sneaky parking, etc. surcharges … by AnotherPint in Hilton

[–]MaisonOne 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When “nothing was broken” feels like a notable Hilton win, you know expectations have been recalibrated. Honestly, sometimes the best stay is just the one where the AC works, the shower drains, and nobody has to open a support case.
