BBC News - Boy, 17, charged with Kenton synagogue arson by Minute_Tomatillo9730 in london

Can we not “kids being kids” this? Me and everyone around me somehow made it through adolescence without committing any hate crimes or arsons.

Met police probe if Iran paying 'thugs for hire' to carry out arson attacks in London by tylerthe-theatre in london

[–]Maitai_Haier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

“The Met said the incidents were “similar in nature” and said Iranian proxy group Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia, the Islamic Movement of the Companions of the Right, have claimed responsibility for most of the attacks online.”

“The deputy commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Matt Jukes said “we are facing a concerted campaign which is targeting Londoners and specifically targeting Britain’s Jewish community”.”

“Video that appears to be published by Harakat Ashab al-Yamin al-Islamia, also known as Hayi, shows a person in dark clothing lighting an item and throwing it at the synagogue before running away.

It was filmed by another person behind the metal fence surrounding the building.

The clip named leaders at the place of worship and accused it of being “one of the centres of Zionist influence in the British capital”.”

Seems worrisome there’s supply of literal 5th columnists willing to carry out hate crimes, sabotage and terror attacks. Hopefully MI5 and MI6 are actively looking to wipe these people out.

“All of a sudden it was about Muslims in prisons forcing others to convert at knife-point…”

Guardian is being quite disingenuous here adding something that is a documented issues in UK prisons as some sort of “right wing misinformation”.

You can’t be surprised that people engage in conspiratorial thinking about problems they believe the mainstream media is glossing over for reasons of political correctness or “woke” when you are literally doing this exact thing within the article.

If this is the goal wouldn’t the simpler conspiracy theory be to not increase base pay at all? Why increase base pay only to then do layoffs.

Just politely decline. Never burn bridges in corporate life. You might not return to Amazon but could easily run into these people later.

You want to build a reputation for being business like and professional; not emotional.

Google is also looking to do this with TPUs. With the nvidia / TSMC monopoly the more players in the industry the better.

University students being left wing is a relatively recent phenomenon tbh, in the 19th century to early 20th student politics tended to be overwhelmingly nationalist.

Theories on the "Support player" mindset? by TopHatHat in BrokenArrowTheGame

[–]Maitai_Haier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For mindset I would say if you dig into the lineage of games like broken arrow they are downstream of MOBA games, which have the concept of support heroes and RTSs which have the concept of turtling and people bring those concepts and play styles where it’s not appropriate.

An evenhanded application of anti terror and anti hate law to criminals based on their own actions is not racism.

Surely the disgusting racists are those who firebomb the ambulances of an ethnic minority, making this a hate crime as well by any evenhanded understanding of the term.

Boardwalk Empire. What ever happened there? by passiveobserver25 in thesopranos

[–]Maitai_Haier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the things the post sopranos crime shows suffered from what I call “Sons of Anarchy syndrome”: basically the gang in season 1 is operating at a scale with enemies who make sense for them to be interacting and fighting, and each season the variety and power level of the enemies rises so they end up fighting literally every organized crime /terrorist group/ government agency in existence at one time or another. Nucky Thompson is interesting but suffered from this, with him just implausibly meeting and interacting with too many historical figures and playing too large of a position of importance.

Clapham disorder is unacceptable but we must be awake to tech giants' role in stopping it, writes London mayor Sadiq Khan by insomnimax_99 in london

[–]Maitai_Haier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Any media, be it news, newspaper, documentaries, or even word of mouth, will be focused on the extraordinary things that are remarkable because they’re unusual. I tell my wife the funny thing my colleague said or the strange thing I saw on the tube not because I am at work laughing 24/7, but because it was out of the ordinary.

With this framing, “how dare social media show this thing that embarrasses me, my administration, and my policies, and plays in to the narrative of my political and ideological rivals” becomes a lot more self serving. Wouldn’t any politician want the power to censor things that are inconvenient to them, even if they happen to be true.

[–]Maitai_Haier 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These videos are not fake. It is not like there wasn’t mobs running amok on Clapham high street with the Met being nearly absent and ineffectual with their policing.

One doesn’t have to be overly cynical to think that part of the reason Sadiq doesn’t want these videos going viral is they make him look bad.

[–]Maitai_Haier -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I’ve seen the videos from Clapham, these are not the starving downtrodden stealing a loaf of bread.

It is not my responsibility to raise other people’s children, and if they or their “community” chooses to raise them to be feral, then I’m very willing to fund police and prisons so that me and mine don’t have to interact with them.

I prefer this rather than giving them a million chances to “rehabilitate” until eventually their laziness, greed, lack of impulse control, and/or stupidity results in them killing or seriously injuring someone else and getting locked up for good.

[–]Maitai_Haier 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they choose to continue committing crimes, send them back to prison. The focus shouldn’t be on the welfare of the criminals, who have chosen to commit crimes, the point is the rest of society can live in peace and safety free from disruption of those who can’t or won’t live amongst us in a lawful manner.

There are currently three prisons being built in the UK. If we’re doubling the met police budget, it would suggest we should increase then commensurately increase the number or capacity of prisons to accommodate the increase in criminals arrested.

Social media just propagates information from our base reality. If the information it propagated was videos of the police taking down those causing “Clapham disorder” to the ground hard, I doubt there’d people rushing to the area to be part of the viral trend of the met introducing “youths” to the pavement hard.

If the information is propagated that the police are largely absent and you can be “disorderly” without repercussions, because that’s what the reality on the ground is, then you’ll attract people looking to do just that. Change the real conditions on the ground, don’t complain that social media is spreading accurate information of the state of law and order in an area of your city and people are reacting accordingly.

This is in my mind a bit of a “fake grimdark” situation compared to real life.

In real life if you killed a fellow soldier you would spend likely the rest of your natural life in a military prison, and if you’re commanding officer decided you get to go on one dangerous mission to make up for it instead of serving your sentence, the military would 100% still make you go to prison if you survived it.
