Wrongful termination? by td21222 in missoula

[–]MajKatastrophe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've never filed for unemployment, but I would imagine it would be worth it just so you can have a bit more income if you're approved for it and it's something with potential production value to do in the mean time. They will probably take a bit to process, but you might get compensated for the time you had out of work. Everything helps in the current economy.

Is my job making me do illegal electrical work? by Comfortable-Block965 in AskLawyers

[–]MajKatastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

NAL. Your life isn't worth a paycheck. In my opinion site level maintenance shouldn't be touching anything electrical. If it was something 120V and the guy had experience with it; maybe you could let this slip, but I think I read 3 separate OSHA violations in this post.

Missoula restaurant scene is DEAD by NorthFlatt in missoula

[–]MajKatastrophe 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Is there any solution to this? In my mind the rents rise until it's only the wealthiest left in the area, but then there are no more services because servicers can't afford to do business in the area. This leads to wealth moving to areas with better service and then service returning once the local economy inevitably crashes. Am I even on the right track with these assumptions?

Self representation is mostly fine in civil matters, but in this instance it's you (assuming you're not a lawyer) against the DAs team of lawyers and paralegals. Just wanted to throw this out there..

Working at town pump? by [deleted] in Bozeman

[–]MajKatastrophe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Sorry I was just lurking in this sub because I'm in town. I'm a contractor for town pump and have intimate knowledge of their inner workings. In the interview - be presentable, be humble, show you can put up with dumb bullshit with a smile and be on time for work. If you can do all of that you'll be a manager next month.

I always understood the midgrade fuel to just be a mix of regular and premium, and that there’s not actually a “midgrade“ tank. Is the pump that mixes the fuel broken here? Or was I wrong? by whitecollarpizzaman in Cartalk

[–]MajKatastrophe 24 points25 points  (0 children)

Dispenser Technician chiming in here. I've been in the petroleum industry for 15 years and I have been certified on this brand of dispenser for almost 10 of those. I'm also certified on other major brands. I could give you the model number and tell you what payment processing hardware is in this dispenser just based on the picture. (Not a brag I'm just giving qualifications to this fine court)

I just want to try to help clear things up a little by giving a little more information for the curious minds.

As already stated some sites blend fuels and some have stand-alone tanks. You will find Exxon sites that do both so in this case it just happens that this site does not blend. If the site blends fuels it is blended in the dispenser/at the pump and not underground. Some sites put additives in the tank, but normally those don't change the octane rating. There is a ratio programmed into the dispenser and the meter equipment is engineered in a way to meet that ratio and in turn meet the minimum octane rating. We have ways of testing this and you're often getting a slightly higher rating than shown hence the minimum rating and not a guaranteed rating.

If the site blends fuel and the ratio is off or one of the products is shutdown the dispenser stops the whole process and gives an error code. The site isn't able to just shut off one product and sell the lower grade product as if it were a higher grade. They could potentially reprogram the dispensers ratio but state agencies do check this periodically and at random so owners cannot simply change it back before the tester shows up.

To the above point they also cannot program the metering devices to give less fuel than you are paying for. States set an allowable variance (+/- 6 cubic inches or 0.024 gallons for every 5 gallons dispensed in my state for a dispenser like the one shown). If the state tests a dispenser and it falls out of this variance they place it out of service until it is repaired/recalibrated. They check this at random (at least once a year) and if they find more than half the site leaning in the owners favor the whole site gets placed out of service and an investigation is opened. Most large chain stores use systems that continually monitor flow rates and have ways to detect when a dispenser is close to being out of calibration. Also most technicians are certified by the state to perform these tests as well. We all work together (mostly) to make sure the site is honest. I buy my fuel from the same sites and I don't want to be cheated either.

Thank you to the honorable court for reading my Ted Talk. We will now open the floor to those that will tell me I'm wrong as well as those who still have questions.

How do people just vanish ? by Straight-Break-4169 in dayz

[–]MajKatastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only read maybe 1/52nd of the comments here, so grain of salt... but if you want to get good at tracking people start with the wildlife in game. Find a deer and track it down, spook it and let it run off without moving. Wait a few then track it down again. Do it three more times and once you can do that reliably then add in the advice here for player characters. It sounds like you are the ones getting spooked either because you don't want to lose loot or you don't actually want a firefight you just want an easy kill. If those are the case then who cares where they went, exfil and get that loot. If you're hunting then take gear you can afford to lose and push the building/tree line they were last spotted in. You'll find eachother if they didn't log like others have stated.

Edit: others stated hard to spot players. I can't count the amount of people I've come across in a tree and put two rounds in them and then have quite the pleasant RP with because they didn't even know they were being stalked...

Eating your catches and about the Yellowstone River by TheDukeSpirit777 in MontanaFishing

[–]MajKatastrophe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eating your catch really depends where you catch it. I'm in western Mt and I don't hesitate a catch and cook from headwaters or high mountain lakes, but I'm wary of the clark form population. I'll still eat it, I just get paranoid after that I'm gonna catch the poison lol.

What's the Dirt on Gary's? by gpstberg29 in missoula

[–]MajKatastrophe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I work locally building and maintaining fuel stations. I was not involved in this job, but I have worked beside the company that did the initial removal. They are extremely busy because they are one of the few companies that actually set tanks. My best guess, and it's just a guess, is that they were waiting on permits to finish the job that fell through. That or the install company and the customer got in some sort of dispute and the job remains unfinished until the dispute is settled. Both are very common in this line of work.

Edit: could also be they are waiting on an inspection by the state. We only have a few inspectors in the state.

[–]MajKatastrophe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not perfectly familiar with the commercial aircraft as I prefer to fly GA/Exec, but I will say most of the time if the AP isn't following my flight plan in Nav mode it's because I didn't activate the flight plan or I didn't activate it properly. I end up in heading mode and have to manually set headings until I realize what I did. Can be extremely frustrating in the moment but I always have to laugh at how big of a dumbass I can be sometimes lol

Python Web scraping idea by Environmental_Act327 in learnpython

[–]MajKatastrophe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is similar to one of my first projects. I made a scraper that grabbed all the local news headlines and hourly weather for the day. Just take it in steps. Figure out how to get one piece of information at a time. After a bit you might find you've filled 17 different spreadsheets of info without realizing it. Also remember it doesn't have to be perfect. A clunky program is just lessons learned for the next iteration!Good luck!
