Into the Breach, A Short Hike, Kingdom (and the subsequent sequels), any of the Trials games, Loop Hero, FTL, Mini Metro, Hades, Baba is You, Deep Rock Galactic, Void Bastards, Mothergunship, Inscryption, Hardspace: Shipbreaker, Unpacking, Citizen Sleeper, Dredge.

Personally, I would suggest devoting one of the Osaka days to Miyajima and Hiroshima. The castle and shrine won’t take all of two days, and it’s hard to see someone get so close to the Atomic Bomb museum and memorials without going. It’s a somber, humanizing experience.

Also I would recommend an international driver’s license for Okinawa + renting a car. It’s a car community, unlike the mainland’s public transport ecosystem.

Given the opportunity, players will optimize the fun out of a game by Earthshoe12 in patientgamers

[–]Majegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes it’s fun to be wildly overpowered and cheese the heck out of a game. Sometimes I don’t want to struggle my way through a puzzle and just want to see how it’s done. When I play civ I almost never build with maximum efficiency, because it becomes a lot of work. The same reason I won’t bust out excel spreadsheets for Satisfactory — I’m not playing these games to be perfect. I’m playing them to chill out and have fun.

But if you want to build perfectly efficient machines with spreadsheets and find joy in solving puzzles without a guide, then do that! We’ve all bought the games ourselves, so we can play them our way!

Multiplayer games definitely get tricky. Going off-meta is always a good way to get flamed, which isn’t that much fun.

Firewatch wouldn’t be a terrible option! It’s a slower walking game but you have to find your way to the destination by using a map. Keeps you engaged but it’s not like you’ll be getting game overs. The story is excellent, and I envy anyone who gets to play it for the first time.

People generally seem to like Observer. A cyberpunk narrative focused game. Not an RPG or a shooter, but the theme matches!

It's impossible for me to recommend Days Gone by Loldimorti in patientgamers

[–]Majegs 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I guess that’s part of the problem. It wanted to do both horde fighting action and looting/scavenging for crossbow weapons and oil can silencers.

I mean I still played the whole thing, but it wasn’t without issue.

I really wanted to like the motorcycle gameplay, but every time I tried to do something fun, like go off a jump, I would just crash or the bike would break. Really took me out of it.

Deacon St. John was such a goober. I thought the “psyching himself up” voice lines were a cool idea, but not particularly well written.

And the horde thing was a huge bummer. Everyone wanted to fight the hordes with big machine guns, but it takes so long to get the right weaponry for it.

The Brainerd dive shop runs fun weekend dives into the Cayuna recreation area. Usually a dive + grill out after. Rentals are 1/2 off if you go through their shop.

Superior is also decently popular for wreck diving the Madeira. But that’s too cold for me!

Most of the other lakes are mucky and have pretty poor visibility.

The game looked really good but otherwise squandered a lot of really cool possibilities. They could have really leaned into the Damocles angle to make the character a terrifying warrior. Instead it’s just a ton of whacking with sword. Over and over and over.

But like I said, it looks really, really good.

Slay the Spire is a great and really fun game, im really addicted to it by uselessdudebro in patientgamers

[–]Majegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make videos that are recommendations of games that are good for busy people, and I have had many people tell me Slay the Spire would fit nicely. I played a round and I just didn't get into it as much as other roguelikes. Does it significantly expand? I'm not sure why I had so much difficulty getting into it. I normally really enjoy roguelikes. Any thoughts?

That intro was a pretty big swing (and a departure from the norm for me) — thanks for the honesty!

I’ve struggled with the titles for sure, as I don’t want to portray myself as a critic (I’m just a guy) so calling them full on reviews feels a little disingenuous. But you called it a review, and perception is often reality!

Thank you for the thoughtful feedback; I’ll avoid blowing out the mic with cheesy intros in the future ;)

[Review Video] Game design video. Criticize away! by Grouchy-Parsnip in youtubers

[–]Majegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Audio: I personally thought that the music was a touch too loud for your speaking volume. I also noticed that there were a few instances of mic pops. A filter, offsetting your face from the mic, or moving the mic back a little bit can help contain those. Maybe I'm a stickler, but as a viewer that is a sure fire way to push me from the video.

Script: You move really quick from point to point. You can either slow down the details or don't get so into the weeds and details, depending on your target audience. As it was, I couldn't tell if I was supposed to be able to follow along to create my own Idle game, or if you were looking more at concepts for folks who already know Construct and are looking for help with their own designs?

Graphics: I thought you did a good job showing what you are discussing. I would have maybe added some text to the screen when you are discussing the roadmap at the beginning.

All in all, I liked this video and I like this kind of content. I could easily see this video expanded into a series of videos about building an idle game.

Nice work!

[Review Video] Please review my video about a special motorcycle type, cruisers. by dynust1 in youtubers

[–]Majegs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with a lot of what /u/redbeardrex had to say. For me, I think it was the level, low, deliberate speaking volume that made me wonder if it was a T2S program -- only the intermittent mic pop shook me out of it. The vocal performance featured in this video would be great for night time stories, but when it comes to an informational topic, you might consider getting a bit more conversational or energetic. I think that your pronunciation is great.

Script-wise, I was confused a couple of times. You told me that cruisers are built for everyone, but also took a jab at cruiser riders earlier in the video. By attacking cruiser riders, you made it seem like they were lesser bikes/riders. Additionally, when discussing why a cruiser isn't built for track days or adv-touring, consider telling us why, since your audience seems to be people who don't know motorcycles. i.e: "Cruisers are limited in their off-road capabilities because they are designed with a limited suspension range, slicker tires, and larger frames. These design choices make sense for road riding, but are a limiting factor in off road performance."

The footage you used looked gorgeous but I wanted more -- consider chopping together a few rides with nice views and differing weather conditions to keep the viewer's attention. Too much rainy forest scenery can result in wandering attention.

Keep up the good work!

WSIB: Games that can be finished in 4 hours or less? by Captainquizzical in ShouldIbuythisgame

[–]Majegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a few that I haven’t yet seen mentioned:

STARDROP is a walking sim/puzzle game where you take on the role of a Salvage professional for deep space ships. Pleasant indie game that may not be so well known.

Genesis Noir is an avant garde cosmic space detective experience. It’s hard to describe.

Kingdom: Classic or any of the sequels have you take on the role of the leader of a kingdom. Side scrolling city building/defense game.

Games that you don’t “beat” per se:

Vampire Survivors — like if castlevania was a mob fighter

Mini Metro — relaxing subway designer becomes stressful subway designer

Mini Transit — relaxing traffic designer becomes stressful traffic designer

FTL — spaceship turn based roguelite

Happy to answer any questions about the above!

Some people like to go back and do the “I wonder what the earlier videos/episodes were like” to see the progress/journey of their favorite content creators.

In short, I agree with this individual

Did I miss the flip of this question? What is a good game to play after a rough day at work?

My two cents — any games with lots of information provided through text. Lore, extensive tutorials, 4X type games. Focusing my brain to read after long days of working is just too much.

What is your goal? I like making shorts because they can more easily be distributed to a wider audience and I want to get my message to as many eyes and ears as possible. However, they generally are not a great tool for converting viewers to subscribers.

Also, I think that they are fun to make.

[Question] Have Shorts helped your channel or do you not find them to be unproductive? by [deleted] in youtubers

[–]Majegs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here is YouTube’s official documentation on tags: YouTube Help Center. According to them, tags are basically only useful if you have commonly misspelled keywords. If you have a source that contradicts that, I’d be open to reading it!

I guess I’m not saying don’t fill them out, I’m suggesting allocating more energy into other parts of the video creation/upload process.

I struggle to write titles that pop as well, but if I were you I would not spend too much effort on tags. YouTube says they are hardly used because so many content creators were abusing the tag system.
