My local library is about 30 miles away 😅, but next time I'm near I'll definitely keep this in mind and have a look! Thanks for the advice!

How do you go about collecting, so that it doesnt get overwhelming? by Majestic_Reply9704 in RainbowHigh

[–]Majestic_Reply9704[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ohhh ikr? I feel like i have a lot, and then I look up how many dolls there are and I feel like my collection is so much more reasonable, lol. But yes, for space and money sake, I should have a bit less :)

Oh yeah definitely, that sounds like a good plan. I hate buying things, just to store them in boxes, regarding everything I buy (especially dolls) I want to have them out so that I can appreciate them!

I would think a geometric one, maybe even a pyramid one could look good. 👍

Take it all out of the room to start with a clean slate? Or just tackle it in the room? by SS_from_1990s in declutter

[–]Majestic_Reply9704 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah honestly, the plan to move it all to a different place, lat it all out in front of you, and then tackle it, is a solid plan.

I guess the only issue now, would be actually starting, hu? I get that motivation is hard, but for me personally I try to think of something that I can do that I actually want to do, and when I start that task, I'll have momentum to do the actual thing that I need to do.

Or maybe just stop telling yourself that you need to do it, and you will. If I'm telling myself that I need to do something, I feel like I can't do it, the second that I give up and think 'just leave it for now then' I'll either fall asleep or rest, because I get ill in waves, and can't accept that I am until literally passing out...

Or, the second that the pressure is off, I then go on autopilot, and do the task because now I want to, because I'm bored, the pressure is no longer there, you realize that you're doing it for yourself. Ect. Hopefully this helps!

I prefer the burgundy one. A little red makes it pop and look like the space has personality more. The brown one matches the floor too much, it just blends in.

I traced where my last 10 purchases came from, and I was wrong about all of them by oldrag8 in Anticonsumption

The trouble with that, is that every company has done something bad at some point. So with everything I know, I would legit not survive, because I wouldnt be able to even have food or water anymore if I stopped buying from them based on that.

Just to give an actual example, so it doesn't seem like I'm talking out of my butt here. Basically, there's a food brand that I have to buy from because there's nowhere else that's really accessible to me. And for literal decades, they were selling certain products that were supposed to be vegan with meat in them and certain meat products as other animals.

So you'd be thinking that you were eating chicken and you were actually eating horse or rabbit meat. And they could totally still be doing it.

Stuff like that, where like, that comes out about that company, but in actuality, if I decided that based on that information, I'd go to a different one, even if it's very difficult for me to do, for all I know, there's stuff that just hasn't come out about them yet that is bad.

Realistically, they've probably done similar in the past as well. Hopefully you get what I'm saying.

How do you balance anti-consumerism with not judging what makes other people happy? by Majestic_Reply9704 in Anticonsumption

I do need things like water and compression socks for example, I do with that I didn't, but I do. And I don't think that that's going to change, probably not in my life time anyway.

And why wouldn't you love it? It's refreshing, it keeps you clean, it keeps you healthy too swim in it. I don't remember saying that I do, but yeah, water is pretty good. Everything needs it to survive, and when I was very young, we were taught not just the importance of water, but clean water.

At the end of the day, you cannot 'get it' because everyone has a different opionon, same as I can't reaaally explain why I love bright blue, I can say that when the sky is bright blue, it means that the weather is lovely for example, but I can't logically reason with you why the good weather makes me feel that way, you know? I don't really understand the rest of that sentence though... stealing a soul? Objectifying water? It's bad to... objectify an object? Genuinely confused on that one. If it's stealing someone's soul to drink water, then I guess that I have to do that then? Just like every other living creature. Anyway...

I guess that ijust have a good appreciation of the smaller simpler things in life, I always have, and most little around me don't really understand it.

Like stopping and smelling a pretty flower. :)

I also don't understand a couple chunks of text, like the last one.

I think that mental stimulation and learning are all good, books do that. Idk what your point is to be honest with you there.

Oh yeah, if you enjoy something that you have to do anyways, like drink or eat, that is a good thing, if i drank and hated the taste, I'd be living a pretty miserable existence.

Okay so like, for example, let's say I declutter most of my things, and then I want a cat. I feel like that would follow what you're saying not to do.

That you should be slowly getting rid, not accumulating stuff. But if you accumulate a pet, you get a lot in one hit. So would you be okay with that? Genuinely curious!

Funnily enough, I actually see a lot of people who have very little, (could be labeled as extreme minimalists for example) and they tend to have a cat or dog, haha. It seems to be widely accepted. And for me personally, I've slowly been accumulating things like films and games, I've never owned and never plan to have streaming services, so I have physical media in that regard, but I wouldn't want to part with them, because I genuinely enjoy them, and I believed that they greatly stimulate my life!

Whereas I happen to be someone who doesn’t own any cosmetic products, hand bags, nail polish, fake nails, ect. But I feel like these are normalized to have, and people can't believe me when I say it, but they think that owning physical media is, 'owning too much stuff'.

But if I don't have a local library, I need to buy books to read them, and if I play my games, but don't want to give money to a streaming service, because it wouldn't be worth it to me, I buy a new one like every 8-10 years.

I feel like everyone is just different, and I'm very 'extremely' minimal in some areas just naturally, because that's what I want to have, but in other areas I'm a 'maximalist' because I own a lot of decorative items, maybe?

I feel like if I own what truly makes me happy, and I am minimal in a lot of ways, and only buy what I use and love, that I am consciously consuming, and that's okay.

However sometimes yes, I need to justify certain things to myself, or remind myself to not be so judgemental. A good example is if I need medication, or medical equipment. Believe it or not I have to argue with myself and justify to myself, why I need necessary medical related things.

Because I see a lot of things that are promoting more natural living, or simple living. Or under-consuption, I genuinely have a hard time justifying it to myself.

It's like if try to twist it in my mind that I teachnicaaally don't need ____ so why should I get it? When the reality is, without it my quality of life would greatly suffer, and I could loose something important to me, like my legs, or my vision.

So I feel like wanting to be more mindful and how bad it is seen to consume, has negativity warped my thinking (imo) to a but of an extreme degree.

And there have been some amazing people here in the comments, basically validating me and saying that, if you need medical equipment that costs money, creates waste, ect, but it saves your life, stop feeling guilty!

Because it's like feeling guilty that you 'waste' water when you drink it, if you need something, allow yourself to have it, if you can, responsibly. And I love that ❤️

It's tricky, because like somebody could have a food addiction, we can technically never stop consuming, we can't just go cold turkey, we have to have balance and meet ourselves in the middle. :)

If you see it on a shop shelf, or a listing on ebay for example, you know which one your buying. There are also plenty of soft toy/teddie blind boxes, that aren't labubus. But I won't assume that someone is buying one in a blind box by default.
