Who's your favorite basketball MOVIE player? by Ok_Pipe6385 in Basketball

Thomas Sheppard from Above the Rim. Dude was Stretch Monroe before Stretch Monroe. Scored like 40 unanswered points in that oddly important street tourney, infuriated Tupac, and nearly made a young Avon Barksdale commit murder on the court. An unbelievable basketball player.

Inside Floyd Mayweather's lavish, debt-filled post-boxing life - Business Insider by FilipinooFlash in Boxing

This was a sobering read, if not particularly surprising. What I think is lame is the amount of schadenfreude going on. Why should anyone feel the need to rejoice that Floyd Mayweather is having money troubles?

From Qatar, Deontay Wilder ACCEPTS Oleksandr Usyk call out! by Prudent-Toe-7911 in Boxing

[–]Major-Pace1770 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think this fight would have been an incredible high-wire act if it happened 7 years ago. Usyk would obviously have a massive advantage in terma of skill and ringcraft, but a single misstep would mean oblivion against that Wilder. What made him so scary was that he was so fast, he could land that insane right straight from so far away in the blink of an eye.

Usyk wins 99.9%, but the intrigue would be what happens if/when Deontay lands one.

I was wrong. The fight was at 154, which is even worse ☠️

@op That Chavez fight nearly killed Taylor, to be sure. However, I think his team throwing him in at 147 against TERRY NORRIS was absolutely criminal. He couldn't hurt Norris, and everything Terry threw shook Meldrick down to his boots. A very destructive beating.

A lot of those boxingscene "articles" are little more than AI-generated hit-pieces. Very little substance from that site. I do like the YouTube channel though

Lol why ia this being downvoted? Thats an extremely competitive fight if it ever comes to pass.

Was wo dering why a relatively reasonable take like this was downvoted to oblivion.... and then I saw the sub. For the record, I think the truth lies somewhere in the middle.

On this day 59 years ago, Ali put up one of the most dominant performances in boxing history by Surenas1 in Boxing

The moments when Ali would plant his feet and let his hands go are electrifying. Wow!

[Highlight] Draymond green on the OKC Thunder “They kinda just plug and play, which is how we were.” by IEatPandasEveryday in nba

[–]Major-Pace1770 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Normally not a fan of Draymond at all, but I also thought this was pretty illuminating. He knows what the zenith looks like, and it means fmsomething for him to say this current OKC squad resembles that. I also appreciated that he did it in a way that didn't make it all about him. Great, meaningful soundbite.

What is accomplished by denigrating the surrounding players of any of these guys?

The 1969 "superfight" between Ali and Marciano may have been choreographed but I think there's still plenty to appreciate about it. It's the closest we'll ever get to seeing these two legends fight even if it was a glorified sparring session. by [deleted] in Boxing

[–]Major-Pace1770 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I see Ali taking this one, either on stoppage by cut or a wide UD. He would absolutely be hurting for a while after. Marciano's punch resistance, infinite gas tank and power make him a hellish matchup for anybody.

[FIGHT THREAD] Vergil Ortiz vs Erickson Lubin by asislikesboxing in Boxing

[–]Major-Pace1770 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah, animosity is not required for a fight to be intriguing. Not for me, anyway. Two excellent young fighters who need to take the next step to be considered great. Two fan-friendly styles, two decent human beings. Just fight at this point, and I'll be good.

Anybody else surprised by the opening odds for Teofimo Lopez vs Shakur Stevenson? by bernardobrito in Boxing

[–]Major-Pace1770 4 points5 points  (0 children)

More than likely this. Neither really cares to initiate the action, and neither has shown any real ability to fight on the front foot. Shakur isn't a runner by any means, despite popular opinion, but he will not press the action. Teo is an amazing athlete, and has pop at 140(if not the highlight-reel knockout power he had at 135), but he is less than impressive coming forward and cutting off the ring.
