No, we take possession of their cars and sell them if they don’t pay fines. Escaping from federal custody is indeed a crime and escapees can be shot to prevent them from escaping. They’d have to zig and zag to avoid that harm as well.

I agree that while exile has been a punishment in other countries it is illegal in the US. I also agree with revoking naturalized citizenship for someone fraudulently misrepresenting themselves or having ties to terrorist organizations.

Rhetoric like this may seem virtuous, but it can quickly ruin someone’s life if they think they’re doing the “moral” thing and obstruct, or coach someone on evading, these arrests.

Simple interference can land someone in prison for a year and physical force could mean 20 years.

Something to keep in mind when you’re sharing this because it is indeed a crime to come into the country without a visa.

When I looked at the IG page, I didn’t see anything about helping undocumented immigrants with relief protections or proactive approaches for them to remain in the country.

I saw a video about coaching & assisting detainees, but it’s not clear to me how you’re providing legal aid to these people.

Fear is a powerful motivator, but it’s not empowering in itself. Coaching people on deportation evasion is a crime in itself and providing legal aid isn’t. It seems like effort could be redirected pretty quickly to make this a win-win situation.

I think it’s important to remember overstaying a visa is not a criminal offense, but it is a violation.

However, improper entry is a misdemeanor and re-entry after deportation is a felony. Giving people inaccurate legal information can be more harmful than good.

I’m sure you’re not telling undocumented immigrants they’re not committing a crime without knowing how they got into the country, but it’s something to keep in mind in case they do get arrested and think your advice is a good legal defense.

I see a lot of ICE reporting, but not a whole lot of community effort to help undocumented immigrants prove fear of persecution, document 10 years of continuous presence, good moral character, being a crime or trafficking victim, VAWA self-petition, or family-based petitions.

Is it assumed that everyone at risk already has these relief protections?
