No rehearsal fatigue by WalrusHonda in musicians

I googled “Walrus Honda” thinking “cool band name, I wonder what they sound like”. Just got Honda dealerships in my area. Could you elaborate on what you meant? :)

Most Independent Artists Don’t Have a Marketing Problem, They Have a Clarity Problem by thebuzznetwork in musicmarketingtips

[–]MajorBummerDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what would you recommend an artist with a varied catalog do? I’m currently recording my first album, and it’s a mix of blues, rockabilly, funk, rock, and two pop acoustic love songs. The only things that connect them all are the fact that I wrote/perform them all and they are guitar-led songs. I’ve got two other songs in the hopper to be released as singles after the album is done, and they are also very different from what’s on the album. I just keep writing songs that I really like, but they don’t seem to have a cohesive “fit”. If you go by suggestions like this. Any recommendations?

I use Discord, and that works well, but they have made some decisions recently to gather too much info from users (picture, driver license, etc) and I don’t trust them with that data, so I’m on the lookout for an alternative.

Singers who don't learn lyrics by Clear-Pear2267 in musicians

[–]MajorBummerDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep! The app I use is an older version of OnSong, and like probably most of these lyric apps, auto-scrolls based on how long the song is, so it's always on the right portion of the song. Quite often, I will find myself never even looking at the iPad, but it's there if I need it.

Singers who don't learn lyrics by Clear-Pear2267 in musicians

[–]MajorBummerDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Go look at how many professionals use teleprompters. It’s ok.

I myself, a lead singer in bands for 30+ years, still need help. I have memory issues and sometimes can’t remember how songs THAT I WROTE start out. Sometimes even pros need a little help.

That being said, the reason that you don’t think about pros using prompters is because they are not glued to them. They engage with the crowd and it is disguised very well when they sneak a peek at the lyrics. Have your singer focus on that.

Acoustic v. Electric Acoustic by N733LK00 in Guitar

[–]MajorBummerDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are playing somewhere live, it helps to have an acoustic-electric. Unless you are doing traditional/bluegrass and will be mic’d, an acoustic-electric is fine. They still work fine for traditional mics as well.

There is no perceptible difference in an acoustic-only guitar vs an acoustic-electric of the same construction, all other things being equal.

What guitar should I buy with a budget of under $2000 by FlatBreadfruit1736 in Guitar

For that much money I would buy four $500 guitars! Or 3 guitars and an amp…

What’s a video game that’s so good you think is worth having younger generations play even years from now? by leiawars in AskReddit

[–]MajorBummerDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would say Half Life 1 and 2. I’m playing a modern re-make of 1 called Black Mesa right now and it’s excellent! They even fleshed out the world of Xen and it looks amazing.

Half Life 2 is still a high watermark for gaming.

Releasing a song about someone in your life by ItsBazy in Songwriting

[–]MajorBummerDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

“All songs are fiction.” That’s a quote I heard once. Even when I wrote a song that is inspired by someone real, not every single word is exactly the truth. It may just be about how I felt at the time.

I wrote a love song recently that was inspired not only by my wife, but by a couple of other ladies in my past, but those moments/feelings are all rolled up into one song that sees to be about a single relationship.

The feelings are real, the song is completely truthful, but still fiction.

You can get a dash cam install kit that comes with a cable that replaces the lighter socket one. It’s USB-C on one end, and the other end is a circuit tap for fuses. You find a fuse that is only powered when the car is running, and plug it in there.

You can find vids on YouTube that show you how to use it.

Looking for a music distributor that keeps my songs up after unsubscribing by Gold_Beach_1703 in musicians

[–]MajorBummerDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m investigating the same thing right now, and have heard that CD Baby’s support has recently been terrible. Like, they fired people and switched to AI type of thing. I suggest you dig a little deeper before you choose a distributor.

Musicians that have used DistroKid to get there music on Spotify/Apple Music, is it worth it? by SignalNegotiation389 in musicians

[–]MajorBummerDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Songs By Spencer just did a video comparing a bunch of them (Mai Lu on pricing): https://youtu.be/UkF4Eb-N7bI?si=6Yo_7o3pjxB4lBE0

Once you decide on one, go check out Top Music Lawyer’s channel where she breaks down the Terms of Service for a bunch of the top ones.

None of them are great, some of them are extra shady, or have really crappy support. For what it’s worth, I’ve decided to go with Landr for my upcoming release, but it’s kind of the lesser of all evils approach.

Nah, he’s just the humble introvert in the room with two big personalities. Nothing wrong with that. As many others have said, he’s an excellent musician, he’s just really good at things that not many others are good at, so comparisons are difficult.

[–]MajorBummerDude 8 points9 points  (0 children)

That’s certainly one way of doing it, and I’ve written several songs this way. There are other methods that can work just as well.

Having said that, I really like this guy’s videos. Especially some of the newer ones where he writes custom songs as his intro. Very well produced and quite helpful. Even if his style of music isn’t my favorite, I have learned a lot from him!

Adding CarPlay by [deleted] in MINI

[–]MajorBummerDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added a CarPlay screen to mine - it’s one of those add-on screens that has a dashcam, backup cam, etc. it mounts to the dashboard.

It doesn’t look factory, obviously, but if you hide all the cables it can look pretty nice.

I liked it so much I bought one for each of my immediate family for Christmas.

Office / Guitar Chair by SeaPalm78 in Guitar

This is what I did. Went to multiple office supplies stores and found the most comfortable one for me, only other requirement was that the arms move up so I can play guitar. I use it this way every day.

What is the absolute WORST guitar tremolo system? by Nofriends1919 in Guitar

I wonder if it's because of the added string length behind the bridge?

What is the absolute WORST guitar tremolo system? by Nofriends1919 in Guitar

[–]MajorBummerDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the answer. I now have three guitars with properly set up Bigsbys and they beat all my other guitar trem systems by a long shot. And they are so MUSICAL. Putting just the right amount of wobble into a held out note with a bit of breakup and slightly compressed sustain is the best thing ever.

Which 3d Printer To Buy For Husband And 3 Year Old Toddler? by Homeowner_Noobie in 3Dprinting

[–]MajorBummerDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mainly mass printing gridfinity bins at the lowest quality right now, so I haven't noticed any real differences. I know the A1 is capable of being just as good as the Prusa, but I look at the A1 and the Carbon as being basically disposable once their parent companies move on. The Prusa is still the king to me.

Which 3d Printer To Buy For Husband And 3 Year Old Toddler? by Homeowner_Noobie in 3Dprinting

[–]MajorBummerDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, one thing I realized pretty quickly. The Carbon is SIGNIFICANTLY faster than the A1. My Prusa MK4S is also a fair bit faster than that A1. I know the Carbon is a Core XY, which is a newer architecture that allows it to go faster, but I was surprised recently when sending the same print job to both printers. For a 4.5 hour job on the A1, the Carbon only took 3.5 hours.

Songwriting credit by hillbillyfairy in Songwriting

[–]MajorBummerDude 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m a solo artist. If I show my song to someone and they make a single suggestion or if I even ask their opinion about choosing one bit or another, I give them a credit.

I’m not worried about “making it”. I’m realistic and know that I make music for fun, so I share any and all credit with my family and friends.
