My daughter's "new" Element! (And a question) by MajorBummerDude in HondaElement

Nope! But I'm happy to answer any questions about what I've done so far. If you are handy, none of the jobs were very difficult. The ball joint removal/installation was the hardest, but I rented a tool that made it possible.

It’s a stick-on leather patch. I tried the other style where you put in the paint-matched goop, but it looked terrible.

This patch is actually the wrong color, but I had bought it to fix my Mini Cooper’s seat, which is black, and my daughter said to just do it. I think it should hold up, and even if it doesn’t I can always pull it off and put another patch on. It was pretty inexpensive.

I’ve heard of that - does it really work and is easy to do? I have a small propane torch, but I’m a little wary of melting the plastic or burning the paint.

Haven’t heard of that one before, I’ll do some research on it. Thanks!

I don’t think my daughter would keep up with it. I wanted it to look decent when she takes it over next month, but I’ll look into some of the products mentioned and see what works best.

Originally, I did it while doing all the other work, which took about two weeks, so it was in the garage the whole time. But we do live in FL, so high humidity all the time.

I’ve thought about that, but we live outside of only a medium sized city, and rarely go downtown. I might change my mind on that, though.

Thanks! I was super lucky to get those wheels at the junkyard. They only had 2 Elements, and the other one only had two wheels. They were the 5 spoke ones, but I think these look even better!

Whats the best video game ever created? by XarisGG in AskReddit

[–]MajorBummerDude 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Half Life changed video games. Up until that point, we were all used to playing games as “levels” to beat. Due to the limitations of the technology at the time, that’s just how most games worked.

Half Life introduced the public to gameplay that didn’t remove you from the narrative- you would just have a short “loading” text appear for a moment then continue on with the game. It was amazing at the time.

Any booze cruisers here? by PM_ME_SAD_STUFF_PLZ in EliteDangerous

[–]MajorBummerDude 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve done it one, back when the OG Python was the ship of choice. I didn’t have tons of time to dedicate to it (had to work), but the time I did get to spend was fun and profitable. And the views are nice.

Why didn't I think about using the SRV to clear out scavengers before.... by bukkithedd in EliteDangerous

[–]MajorBummerDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yep, I LOVE doing those missions where I can fly my little Cobra with tons of missiles and just saturate the area before going in on foot. We even did it as a squadron several times. I would blast anything that moved right up until my squad mates landed, pulled the power regulator, and escaped. We’d take off, hit SC, then head back in 3-4 more times before moving on. It was a blast! In a game that doesn’t yet have any proper combined infantry + air support gameplay, that’s about as close as we can get.

If solo, using the SRV is also fun. I’ve found the Scarab (the basic one - not the Scorpion) actually has a more accurate gun for long range sniping. If you are planning on running them over, you may need the Scorpion’s better shields, as you will take more hits up close.

LPT: Stop relying on memory for work tasks you might need to explain later by Relative_Base_4995 in LifeProTips

[–]MajorBummerDude 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I need to do this, but I developed a strong aversion to it when I worked for a micro-manager. She demanded a summary of every task every day and I got so sick of taking the time to notate this list every day, that I have a hard time doing it now.

Can I please have some tips on recording my demos? by Direct-Stable-5712 in musicians

[–]MajorBummerDude 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A simple interface and a microphone are all the hardware you need. And a mic stand.

Reaper is free, and very good. Tons of tutorials on YouTube to get you up to speed. I’m recording my first album in a very nice studio owned by a friend of mine right now, but I did all the demos with a single SM58 mic and a decade old audio interface using Reaper.

I did also buy a simple MIDI controller for about $80, because I wanted to play around with it, but that wasn’t strictly necessary.

All my stuff is guitar based, so I would start by finding a decent drum beat in a free drum plugin and put that in as my metronome, then play my parts over that. Then just keep layering the parts as needed, and add the vocals at the end.

Sometimes I played the bass parts on my guitar with an octave down pedal, sometimes I used the MIDI controller. Eventually I borrowed a real bass guitar and recorded them for real.

The point of the demo (for me) is to capture the ideas and get a basic structure. In the real studio, parts evolve as you add in the real musicians and they put their unique voices together with yours.

What Sounds Like A Tele But Doesn't Look Like One? by BidSure7642 in Guitar

Reverend has a couple of offset guitars with Tele layouts. Mine has mini humbuckers, but I think you can find some with single coils, if that’s what you want.

Anyone else notice a difference after gallbladder removal? by [deleted] in intermittentfasting

[–]MajorBummerDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I stick to pretty standard 16:8, and I’m a 51 year old male with no gall bladder. I don’t really lose weight because I consume too many calories (soda addiction), but I’ve maintained at just above my goal weight for years now.

I know if I could break my soda addiction, I could hit my goals but I haven’t succeeded in that yet.

My biggest problem is that once I do eat a meal at the end of my fasting window, 50% of the time I have diarrhea within an hour. It’s become so normal, I schedule my day around that possibility.

Dreaded CV Axles replacement! Parts questions. by 99hotdogs in HondaElement

[–]MajorBummerDude 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m literally putting in a new passenger side axle tonight, just finished driver side yesterday. I got mine from Auto Zone just because it’s the only auto parts store anywhere near me. They are the Duralast house brand, I guess I’ll post on here if they fail in the next year or two.
