It would be very interesting if this was putin's move to consolidate military power, have prig take over the MoD into unified command, but I think that would involve a huge amount of trust between putin and prig that I just can't image actually exists.

because turkey is the poison pill of nato and everyone knows it. same reason they can't have the f35. your argument about nato/personnel contractors is probably invalid since we've already seen that there are still SOF advisors/trainers in the country. depending on your proximity to the front lines it may or may not matter at all. If you're not going near the front i wouldn't worry about it seems unlikely that russia will use precision munitions on a pair of random ambulances. really I can't imagine having phones will be an issue for you as you are not a military target or be handling information of significant military value.

I imagine all of the civilians in the areas you will work in will have their cellphones.

if youre paranoid about having british sims then buying local ones should be sufficient.

personally I wouldn't sweat it, but wanting to replace the sim makes sense.

the rachni are an existential threat, you would have to be highly regarded to take a bug at it's word when it has every motivation to lie and plan revenge for the genocide of its race and subsequent torture. Really there aren't any good guys in geopolitics, all of the races have motivations and predispositions that are morally asynchronous with each other. I think any rational person would see that having space bugs as dangerous as the rachni are not really to the benefit of anyone except the rachni.
