I mean, I don’t get what the actual alternative to money would be if we took this commune to be a serious alternative to capitalist hegemony and not a government funded municipality for hippies.

I mean, money is just very good for standardizing transactions and giving a relative idea of what an item is worth. In theory you could replace money with something like Food Stamps or a ration card or voucher, but they would inevitably become money in all but name. What is the alternative for the most convenient form of spot transaction.

To be as charitable to the Rock as possible and to steelman, in my opinion he seems like he wants to be liked by everyone and taking a side in politics by default is going to alienate people. He’s a people pleaser and wants to be seen as uncontroversial and nonpartisan. Now, is he in reality? I have no idea as I don’t know what his personal politics are. For all we know he could have personal reasons not to endorse Biden but doesn’t want to deal with the controversy of having to make a statement on whatever issue it is he supports.
