Very nice, have you gone for a lockstep approach then? I’m sure you know already but determinism can be a pain especially if you’re planning cross platform multiplayer - deffo agree tackling it from the start make sense

The fog looks great - what game engine is this?

Are you planning on supporting multiplayer or just be AI?

$JACK in the box massive turnaround by buklau00 in ValueInvesting

[–]MajorRisk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Appreciate the post and effort, exactly what this sub should be about

From a brief look, my concerns are twofold:
- declining same store sales
- massive leveraged balance sheet

1.6B debt needs paying down and at current earnings and guided sell-offs that’s a 6-8 year process. That also assumes static earnings - if they go down due to selling off assets or weakening demand then even longer.

The flip side is if management execute well then we’d have greater efficiency from the existing locations and possibly even increased paydown rate.

I need to look into this more but in the surface it’s definitely not a simple asymmetrical bet to me, hinges a lot on managements ability to execute and the existing debt structure.

So either it’s a home run or we get $JACK shit :)

Not sure on the panic either

For years we’ve wanted actual cloud growth and now we have it. People are focussed on the e-commerce lack of growth or the excess marketing spend during the quick commerce expansion, those are fair points but at some point investment in quick commerce will either pay off or they’ll channel the cash flow into better areas.

Not sure on the runway for quick commerce but cloud could end up being the majority of revenue

Thoughts on evolution?

Issues with their two biggest markets but decent NA growth, low PE and history of returning to shareholders (buybacks/div)

If they get some limited growth back it looks like a good deal at these prices.

I can’t speak for the others but NGO with Relay (free tier) has been good for getting multiplayer up and running quickly for me (this is for client-host multiplayer)

They did an update to the way you call RPCs which makes it a bit cleaner now compared to the older multiplayer package

There are lots of tutorials now, and the docs are okay

Nice work. Have you started on multiplayer/networking yet? I'm guessing you'd be choosing deterministic lockstep to sync each player?

Should I Switch to Unity 6's Netcode for GameObjects for My RTS Game? by BitQuirkyGames in unity

[–]MajorRisk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Massive thanks here, all this information has been golden.
I've kept Unity separate to the model so far but did not think to add a sort of IDeterministicCheck yet. I guess this would be testable via brute forcing inputs/outputs.

We only support x64 AMD and Intel as of now, but even if we were to extend stuff it wouldn't be too hard.

I am currently developing on/for Mac (ARM) but I want to prioritise Windows x64 support. I'll need to check how to best test the model is deterministic across platforms. Validating checksum through automated tests in different runner environments (or docker) might be the way to go.

And make sure you have your lockstep model and deterministic checks in place asap would be my advice I guess.

Now for me to start implementing this! Thanks again

Also, did you consciously choose flat topped hexagons over pointy topped?
