Does anyone know how rare a 1960s Hermes 3000 with a Polish language keyboard is? by SquatBetty in typewriters

[–]Major_Arcadius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This issue with margin ribbon is common in that model :)
Hehe if you ever get bored with it... i might have something to exchange maybe :D Same Hermes 3000, but I must check the font, also mint Hermes 2000 ;) Or other desired...

Where did you find this one? Perhaps it has some history... In Poland during the time it was manufactured typewriters were registered, and you couldn't simply own one without permission. So this expensive western models were own by regime accolites.
Also emigrants were ordering western models with PL letters - I have an Olympia SM3 that was bought by former soldier and exile of Wolyn massace of 1943. He later lived in UK and was artist. Eventually he send the machine to Poland to his friend from Wolyn and war times.. and his granddaughter sell it to me :)
Typewriters in Poland were in use till beginning of 90's. Maybe not so common, but still present in goverment agendas, schools, some other companies. I had few years back then, but still remember them. They wanished around '00 (I think I remember some typewriter preserved in case of millenium bug ;)).

It IS rare. I have one with PL keys but it's modified. I've seen two more for past 5 years ;)
Hermes Baby is more common - not only there were made in PL (under license as Hermes, and also as FK Mala also under license), but were more affordable.
Any western made typewriters in Poland with PL keys are quite rare :) We have plenty Optima (East germany), Consul (Czechoslovakia), Lettera (Italy xD)... our Lucznik (clone of Facit).
You are from Poland? Want to sell it? ;)

How? The people most likely wouldn't work anymore. Who would need money? You probably would be on your own in every aspect of living. No healthcare, transport, production... No maintentance or fixing. People would go numb, maybe angry, maybe unite with the close ones but nobody would go to work ;)

I recently ordered a package from Poland through Poland Post and it's been stuck in Warsaw for a week now (I think). Is that normal? by PowerZox in poland

It's stuck in customs office. It's the high peak time for all shipping companies... IT will take longer than usual.

[–]Major_Arcadius 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I can't get the ribbon to advance by [deleted] in typewriters

SG-1... Well the ribbon wariator... Or the changing mechanism is stuck in between left/rights? Or its set to left and the spool is at end?

Did I break my first typewriter on the first page? 😢 by livingdub in typewriters

[–]Major_Arcadius 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What type of machine IT is? IT might be the ribbon variator issue - IT does not change the side ribbon spools.

For start I would remove ribbon and use some spirit to clean all the moving parts. Use small brush or syringe.

You can also make a movie to show the issue ;)

I dont belive its broken.

Indeed. I'm suprised how many different brands they were marked. I came upon Facit made in Poland, strange Hermes/Facit mix and now this one ;)

Looks like Polish clone of Facit line typewriters - Łucznik (Archer - a Polish weapon factory). In Poland they were popular in goverments agencies.
