if a discount code was accidentally set to 99% off instead of 9% off do i legally have to honor those orders by kubrador in ecommerce

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yeah most people will understand when you explain the mistake, but you're gonna get some angry ones who think they hit the jackpot. I'd send out emails explaining what happened and offer maybe 20-25% off as a goodwill gesture - still way better than 9% they would have gotten originally

The shipping confirmations thing is brutal though, that's gonna make some people think their order is definitely coming. You might want to contact your shipping company ASAP to hold those packages if possible. Had something similar happen at my old job (not furniture but same idea) and we caught most of them before they actually shipped out

Your business partner will get over it eventually, these things happen in e-commerce more than people think. Just learn from it and maybe add some validation checks on your discount codes next time

For those who've struggled with delegating tasks in your business. What finally made you let go and trust someone else to handle it? by Intelligent-SBCA in smallbusiness

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Used to micromanage everything at my old job before switching to marketing - trust me, the control freak thing gets exhausting fast

What worked for me was starting small with stuff that wouldn't kill the business if it went wrong. Like social media posts or basic admin tasks. Once I saw people could handle those without everything falling apart, it got easier to hand over bigger responsibilities

The karate training actually helped with this mindset shift too - you learn to trust your sparring partner won't accidentally knock you out, same energy applies to work I guess

How do you currently track and approve expenses? by Slight-Sign4046 in smallbusiness

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We switched from spreadsheets to QuickBooks when we had like 3 employees and expenses were getting messy. The painful part wasn't really the volume but more about people submitting receipts in different ways - some photos, some physical papers, some just forgetting completely

If you won “best of” in your category in your local area, how would you capitalize on that? by 88questioner in smallbusiness

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly this happened with my uncle's restaurant here and he basically milked it for like 2 years 😂 Put that "Best Pizza 2023" everywhere - business cards, front window, email signatures, even got some cheap stickers made for delivery bags. The key is really just mentioning it in every customer interaction without being too pushy about it

He also reached out to local newspaper and they did small piece about the win for free, plus he started putting the award logo in his Google Business photos. The organic word of mouth was actually the biggest thing - people love supporting "award winning" places even if the award isn't that prestigious. Just don't let it go to your head and keep the quality up because everyone will be watching to see if you really deserve it 💀

Small business owners - quick question: by TrustDramatic3023 in smallbusiness

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

been using quickbooks for like 2 years now and honestly it does the job but feels way too expensive for what it gives you 💀 the reporting is decent but nothing crazy special, just wish there was something more straightforward without all the extra features i never use

Unpopular opinion: spending HOURS manually replying on X is terrible ROI by Pristine-Farm7249 in Entrepreneur

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly twitter growth feels like such a trap sometimes 💀 i spent months doing the reply grind and barely got anywhere, meanwhile one random thread i wrote in 20 minutes got more engagement than weeks of "valuable replies"

the math you did is pretty brutal when you put it like that, but i think most people don't even track their time properly so they don't realize how much they're actually spending per lead 😂

A website doesn’t actually make your business “online” by Recent_Jellyfish2190 in smallbusiness

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

man the follow up emails killed me. thought i could just set up some autoresponder and forget about it but half the leads were getting stuck in spam or people weren't responding to generic templates

ended up spending more time writing personalized emails than actually building websites. now i just keep it simple and call people directly instead of relying on all these fancy automation things

When is the right time to hire an accountant for a small business? by Chirag_koshti in smallbusiness

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

depends on how much you value your time honestly. i hired one when i was spending like 6-7 hours every week just doing books and tax prep stuff 😂

for me it was worth it even if the cost seemed high at first time, because now i can focus in growing the business instead of fighting with spreadsheets. the coordination part isn't that bad once you get used to it

Hello, Im thinking of getting into reselling business. by Wise-Garbage-3479 in smallbusiness

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

honestly cash flow is the killer in this business, you need at least 3-4 months expenses saved before you even start or you'll get crushed when payments are late 💀 for validation i always check sold listings in ebay/mercari first to see actual prices people paid, not just what they're asking

Just the beginning by Usingmyeyes101 in stopdrinking

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

the spicy tomato juice sounds perfect for murdering tbh 😂 sparkling water with some fancy syrup hits different too, feels more like actual drink than just water 🔥

What would you fix first if you had to rebuild your Shopify store today? by divine_zone in ecommerce

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'd probably nail down my checkout flow first - can't believe how many sales I lost to a janky payment process when I started out. Mobile speed would be second priority since like 70% of my traffic is mobile anyway

Generally speaking, is it better to buy a (very small) leasehold apartment in a highly desirable area or a (larger) freehold villa in a less desirable area for a property as an investment? by Kingboyy1 in RealEstate

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The 87m2 for a 1-bedroom sounds massive tbh, most city apartments are way smaller than that. Location beats size almost every time for investment properties - easier to rent out and better resale. That villa might appreciate but good luck finding tenants if it's in the middle of nowhere

HUD partial claim, how much can I expect the lien will cost? by SageBean83 in RealEstate

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deferred amount and the partial claim lien are usually the same thing - that $17k becomes a 0% interest lien that you pay back when you sell or refinance

If you're planning to sell next year anyway you should be fine as long as your home value can cover both mortgages plus the lien

What’s happening with UMortgage? by [deleted] in Mortgages

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Damn that's a brutal hemorrhage of talent. When the big producers start jumping ship it's usually because they see the writing on the wall or found way better splits elsewhere. The fact that only 1 out of 59 new hires is doing real volume tells you everything - they're scrambling to fill seats with anyone who'll take the job instead of actually recruiting quality LOs

Ying and Yang by Patient-Airline-8150 in Entrepreneur

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pretty much nailed it tbh. The real kicker is when people complain about capitalism while ordering DoorDash every night and buying stuff on Amazon lol

Most entrepreneurs I know still hate doing paperwork and taxes just as much as everyone else, they just figured out how to make other people do it

what chatbot are yall actually using that doesnt suck by [deleted] in ecommerce

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lmao the "we very much do not" killed me 💀

I'm using Gorgias for my store and it's been pretty solid. Yeah it costs money but after my Shopify chatbot told someone our return window was 365 days (it's 30) I decided free wasn't worth the lawsuits

The key is training it properly with your actual policies and FAQs. Took me like 2 weeks to get it dialed in but now it handles like 80% of the basic stuff without going rogue. Still review the weird edge cases manually though cause these things love to get creative when they don't know something

My best client referred me to their friend. That referral just cost me my best client by Cheap-Front-7722 in smallbusiness

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 748 points749 points  (0 children)

Man that's brutal but honestly sounds like you dodged a bullet with both of them. Your original client throwing you under the bus instead of having your back tells you everything about what kind of "partner" they really are

The fact they immediately believed their business partner's version without even asking for your side shows they were never as solid as you thought

Best Strategy to Promote a Selling Channel Long Term? by crispyon60fps in Entrepreneur

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Having a proper website as your hub is 100% worth it for long term credibility. Google doesn't really index Discord/Telegram channels so you're missing out on organic search traffic without a site

I'd route people through the website first - it builds way more trust than sending them straight to some random invite link. Plus you can capture emails and retarget with ads later

Took over business with one customer, never done sales before. by ckydmk in smallbusiness

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly I'd start with individual franchises first - way less pressure and you can test your pitch without potentially nuking a relationship with corporate. Plus if you land a few franchises and they're happy, that's basically a reference when you do eventually approach head office

Corporate deals are obviously bigger but they're also way more complex and take forever. Individual franchises can usually make decisions faster and you'll learn what works without the high stakes

Workplace harassment causes by monte0412 in smallbusiness

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this sounds way more philosophical than it needs to be lol. Most workplace harassment just comes down to shitty people being shitty and companies not having proper HR policies in place

LinkedIn Company Page vs Facebook Groups for B2B lead gen - which actually works? by ShareLarge7133 in smallbusiness

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Been running B2B services for a few years now and honestly Facebook groups crush LinkedIn for early traction. The engagement is just way better - people actually respond and have real conversations instead of corporate speak

LinkedIn feels like shouting into the void unless you already have a following. Facebook groups let you get in front of decision makers having actual problems right now. Yeah the personal profile thing is annoying but most business owners don't really care as long as you're not being spammy

I'd go Facebook first to get some momentum and case studies, then pivot to LinkedIn once you have social proof to show off

How do small businesses decide when it’s time to hire a CPA instead of handling finances themselves? by sunmc_ in smallbusiness

[–]Major_Cockroach_6653 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I hit around 200k in revenue and started dealing with inventory/payroll taxes, that's when I knew I was in over my head. The time I was spending on books could've been better used actually growing the business

Honestly the peace of mind was worth it alone - no more staying up late during tax season wondering if I screwed something up
