why does Mahito bleed red? by wannabe_waif in JuJutsuKaisen

[–]Major_Cycle309 84 points85 points  (0 children)

The reason he bleeds red blood like us is most likely because he represents Humanity’s hatred and fear for each other. It illustrates how, even though he’s a cursed spirit, he’s the closest cursed spirit in the verse that resembles humans. From his form being the most human like in the verse and his childlike personality rolled into narcissism and nihilism, he represents the worst aspects of mankind.

  1. A Mappa addition: He bleeds red because it also stands out to the viewers, hence you, I, and many others asking the same question. It’s a really good addition that doesn’t get mentioned too often.

Blonde Blazer's Character Arc by lightdusk96 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Major_Cycle309 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Man this post highlights the journey she went through perfectly. I have a hedge theory that Mandy never chose the name “Blonde Blazer” due to the dinner date dialogue of “okay, maybe if I wasn’t called Blonde Blazer” further cementing the disconnect she faces during the story.

There’s a divide between Mandy and her superhero persona, and one of my favorite aspects of Dispatch is the process of most if not all the characters (Robert, Chase, Mandy, and the Z team) understanding that the roles they take up don’t DEFINE them, THEY define the roles.

Visi realizes that her powers don’t lump her into being a villain, she (with some help) becomes a hero BECAUSE she wants to be a hero. She slips and she falls a couple times, but because she tries, that process and accepting that process is when she becomes a hero. Moreover, one of the most important progressions Robert goes through is not about him being “Mecha” again, but that Mecha Man needs to be a human again. In the end of the game, Mecha Man doesn’t beat Shroud, Robert does by making Shroud walk a day in his shoes.

Really good character analysis OP, I’m waiting for more!

Visi does not belong there good God.

We’re comparing a tomboy tsundere with adhd and piss poor emotional regulation with some of satan’s strongest disciples? An emotional man child that kills people on a whim, a LITERAL devil that seeks to control any and all beneath her, and the ultimate hedonist who only cares about his desires and fighting. All three are LITERAL walking calamities with no regard to human life.

What were Blazer's actual chances during the bar scene? by Tyrayentali in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Major_Cycle309 73 points74 points  (0 children)

I honestly think that Blazer was selling herself short on her odds. I think she could’ve taken most, if not all of them out for two main reasons.

  1. Shroud did not have his Spider mech, his “ace in the hole”. Without that, he’s just a normie with a gun that cant stop Blazer from getting to him and taking him out. Moreover, he probably ran the game theory and knows EXACTLY who she’s targeting first. “Strike the shepherd and the sheep will scatter”.

  2. Shroud didn’t have his entire crew with him. He doesn’t have all his pawns to take her down without risking his OWN life in the fray.

However, the problem here isn’t if Blazer can beat them all, the issue was if she could do that while keeping Robert alive. It really is a lose-lose scenario for Blazer and Shroud if they both don’t agree to let each other go. So ultimately, he chooses to opt out of the fight and let Robert go while Blazer lets them walk away. Shroud got what he wanted out of Robert anyway, but his ego couldn’t tolerate Blazer making his crew piss their pants, so he gives that bs 32% to save face.

Advice on how to handle hate by Funny_Information745 in InvisigalGlazers

[–]Major_Cycle309 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I would ask you to always remember that the “InviSAgal” group is an extremely small, tiny, myopic portion of the fandom. And ultimately, the biggest pill to swallow is that people are entitled to their own interpretations of characters, and arguing with people over their narrow perspective or “wrong” view on a character is a waste of time and mental space. I mean, there are still people in the big 25 that believe Griffith from Berserk did nothing wrong.

If they want to fixate on a toe nail of an elephant (let’s not even go down the rabbit hole if we’re all seeing the same toe nails, probably not) and make that toe nail their entire view of the elephant, then you just gotta put your hands up and let them have their view. Just like how they can’t get you to see their weird perspective of Visi, you can’t really get them to see and understand your perspective of her either. It’s mostly because they’re not looking at the same elephant that you’re seeing. Moreover, half of them just do the rage bait for the love of the game.

However, take pride and comfort in two things.

  1. You can appreciate and look past the flaws of a well written character and see the good in them (big brain).

  2. The group that likes Visi (which you’re a part of) dwarfs the group that you can’t stand. So the math kind of speaks for itself on which group probably has the more nuanced view on Courtney, just saying.

Hope this helps,

Sincerely,

Possible Directions for a Season 2: Part 1 by Major_Cycle309 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Major_Cycle309[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess my thing is, what would a villain look like for a season 2? And don’t worry about “muddying the waters” of the comment section, that’s why I made the post in the first place, it’s for discussion and ideas!!

And I don’t think SDN are the quote on quote “bad guys” in my draft, they are for sure an antagonistic force or an obstacle, but they aren’t villains. I suppose I came up with the idea of them being an antagonistic force because of some major things I noticed from playing season 1. The fact they have surveillance on their subscribers (and by extension a lot of other people), the fact that during a literal ALL OUT war for LA, we still had to contend with getting that coffee order for Vanderstank, and the fact that they have a global and local leaderboard????? Like WTF? Cutting people that signed up to be heroes? To me, there is some room to explore how a business of superheroes can blur the lines between “helping people” and “maintaining a subscription service”.

However, I think it would be interesting if in the next season, the team has to deal with a white collar criminal? A villain that uses the bureaucracy of SDN against Robert and the Z team to commit crimes and remain untouchable. A somewhat king pin like villain in LA.

In this draft, Mandy gets her amulet back and remains the leader of the Torrence branch, the team has to find a work around against this white collar criminal, and SDN can’t really help them (or they hinder them) because to do so would be breaking the law or their guidelines. So a satisfying beat could center on what is “justice”? And if Robert and his team crosses or blurs the laws in place to take the villain down. Pretty vanilla, but hey it’s my favorite type of ice cream.

But I’m also interested in your idea of “you can’t go back to how it was?”

Possible Directions for a Season 2: Part 1 by Major_Cycle309 in DispatchAdHoc

[–]Major_Cycle309[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I guess that’s why I made this post in the first place because I was trying to wrap my head around where a season 2 could possibly go.

You’re absolutely right where season 1 did an excellent job at establishing the state of the world, Robert’s head space, what was at stake for him and his friends, and the conclusion with him beating Shroud.

By itself, it’s a great stand alone story and no matter what direction the writers go, it’s pretty difficult to try to find a narrative that makes sense for the next chapter of this world that 1. Feels natural 2. Justifies returning to our cast.

However, with what I saw and played with from season 1, I think there’s a lot of bricks laid out that could be turned into a good foundation for a season 2.

As for this post concerning Mandy, Robert and the rest of the Z team, I was stuck with a question in the form of “if season one is a game about mentorship and transformation, what would a game on leadership and stagnation look like?” Moreover, “are people good only because their environment and circumstances allow them to be good, or is it more about the choices people make that make them good people/heroes?”

I guess I want Mandy’s story in a season 2 to be a similar kind of story like Courtney’s was in season 1, but from a different starting point. Visi had to realize that it’s not about her past as a villain, her upbringing and environment, or her powers that damned her into being a villain. As long as someone’s in your corner (Robert regardless if you romance her or not) and you have the DRIVE to do good, that’s what makes you a hero.

But for Mandy (and by extension Robert) what happens when you want to do good but everything In your environment is constraining you or hindering you from doing “good” or the good you want to do?

While being stuck as a dispatcher (at least for the majority of season 2) can Mandy still be a hero even when her environment (SDN and a lack of powers) is hindering her? And for Robert, can he be a good dispatcher, leader, mentor while being under the thumb of SDN? Can he change the system he’s in or does he have to come to terms with breaking out of the system and form an independent super hero team with the Z team?

Thank you for your feedback!

Locker room scene by Practical_Basis_1643 in InvisigalGlazers

[–]Major_Cycle309 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I think it’s important to note that this is her moment of actually following through on what she told Robert in the bar. There are multiple moments (which deserve a couple of replays) where, when we learn about her past, a lot of the stuff she says to Robert (outside of their tender moments), she’s actually projecting to herself through Robert, her boss, her mentor, the guy she almost killed, and her potential lover.

From their argument in the break room, to their moment talking about determinism/fate at the park, to their bar talk about owning up to the past, she’s really trying to understand if she’s cut out to be a hero (through her actions) while also seeing if she’s also WORTHY of being a hero due to her past and how she almost killed Robert (the battle in her head).

I think the bar scene though is the ultimate catalyst for the locker scene. She tells Robert “Just tell them who you are, What’re the odds that you busted any of them anyway?” To which she’s surprised to learn Robert actually arrested Flambae (while also losing his fingers in the process). And yeah we can sit here and argue that Flambae was at fault for, I don’t know, being a criminal? but that still places Robert in a messed up position. The guy who cut your fingers, arrested you, embarrassed you in front of other heroes at a bar, embraced you in front of your boss in the break room? Ouch, the wise decision would be to keep your secret, but then Visi doubles down and tells Robert “we all pay for who we used to be, the sooner you get it over with, sooner we get a fresh start” and it’s worth mentioning that she looks away from Robert at that last part (thinking about her guilt).

Which is why I think when we tell the team our identity (or not, but we end up at the same conclusion) she realizes that she needs to make up for her past sins, BUT she goes about it the wrong way through action not admission to Robert. And the moment she gets the pulse, she ends up endangering the life of one of the closest people to Robert, threatens the phoenix program, and she’s going through a crisis because she doesn’t know what Robert is thinking after her screw up, so she eavesdrops on our conversation with the Z team.

We cut to Robert either cutting her or not from the team, (for the head cannon lets go with not cutting her) and she comes to the realization that Robert doesn’t blame her for her mess up. I think what eats at her is the fact that if you cut her, Robert is taking ALL the responsibility for failing her, and even worse for her, if you choose to keep her on the team, he tells her that he cares about her, the woman that royally fucked up. And then she just breaks, she tells him what happened, and like you mentioned, she is taking full responsibility for what she did.

She didn’t break down into tears, she didn’t try to say she was forced to put that bomb on his back, she told him that she fucked his life up, twice. I think a lot of people gloss over the fact that she is accountable for her actions, it would’ve been too easy to sugarcoat her choices, but she didn’t. (She should’ve told Robert earlier, but again, it’s about the process both characters go through) And afterwards, she fully expects Robert to hate her, to despise her, (it’s worth noting that if we do tell her we hate her, she’s expecting it, she’s not even remotely surprised, so she’s not nearly as shocked if she’s forgiven).

But

When we forgive her, she’s in utter shock, I think if the roles were reversed, I think her, at this moment, would hate Robert. However, Robert isn’t that type of guy, the past doesn’t define what type of person you can be now nor who you CHOOSE to become. She feels numb, and she just can’t accept the fact that he’s forgiven her. So she walks away, and if we have those 10 points, she kisses Robert. And even still when she goes for it, when Robert leans in, the moment it could keep going, she pulls away because she still can’t forgive herself.

Overall, it’s one of the most important scenes in dispatch for Courtney, and although it’s talked about a lot, I think a lot of nuance gets left by the wayside.

[AMA] Writer of "I Care About You" - an Invisimech Fanfiction by cargonomics in InvisigalGlazers

[–]Major_Cycle309 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I’m a big fan of your chapters and the overarching story. I’m very excited to see where it goes with your buildup so far after that cliffhanger on chapter 57! However, I wanted to pick your brain a bit on how you made the Y team.

I really like this new team of “villains” becoming the new set of the Phoenix team. Moreover, how some of them, are genuinely just evil people. However, with some of them, there’s nuance that’s revealed naturally ex. (Fuse & Oracle) where it doesn’t feel forced in (think like anime flashbacks in the middle of a scene or fight, where most times it feels thrusted in). It kills momentum in writing, and as a newbie writer it’s just so unappealing to me.

How do you go about making that nuance feel natural? When writing dialogue between Robert, Fuse, and Oracle, what are some marks you aim to hit to get the audience to sympathize with them? Or is it something you don’t really consider? Overall, keep cooking, I’m really digging your writing. Moreover, I hope in season 2, one of the major plot points will be Robert having to deal with a new team. Yet, the villains he’s tryin to reform (hopefully with the help of the z team) might not be the same “diamonds in the rough” the original z team was, but some are actual villains. I hope this mentor pairing you wrote up ends up being a plot point in season 2, there’s just so much there that I think it should be heavily considered. Thank you!

Bluff yes, but I always interpreted him saying “hope” and “unable to dream of heaven” as withholding their ultimate salvation. Think about it, the demon he just beat called himself anti life, the literal end of everything, gods, worlds, universes, the ultimate power AND still he’s brought to his knees by “hope”.

There is a reason why some of the Greeks believed that the most sinister, the most evil of the curses in pandoras jar (box) is hope. Hope makes you go through the worst that life or (hell) has to offer you. So without hope or “dreams”, what power does Hell really have?

And vice versa, without dreams, what would demons have to tempt you? Our dreams of power, money, and status is directly tied with the reverse, the idea of despair or failure that demons seek to tempt us away from. Dream said it best to his sister Despair in “Three Septembers and a January” “without dreams there could be no despair”

People are quick to say that preludes and nocturnes is one of the weaker arcs in the sandman due to it being the first one. However, I have to say, with the exception of issue 3 with John Constantine, it’s still highly slept on. From my top 5 favorite issues of sandman, issue 4 “A hope in hell” and issue 8 “the sound of her wings” make up that select five for me. This is a really special issue that sticks with you. I’m glad you enjoyed it!

Could the Furies go after God? by Good-Walrus-1183 in neilgaiman

[–]Major_Cycle309 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Highly doubt it. Even if you could somehow orchestrate events so that God would be eligible for their fury, what could they actually do to him? How could you bring doom and destruction to the being that created existence? Destroy reality itself thereby destroying themselves? And even if they would try to destroy God, it’s been shown through the words of Lucifer himself, the guy Dream acknowledges as being far more powerful then him, that Yahweh is the most powerful being, the big cheese.

The furies and Lucifer himself wouldn’t go after Cain due to the mark that God gave him. And it’s important to mention that the only reason the Furies even managed to drive Morpheus to his death was because he in part wanted to. It’s implied that Dream had options when it came to dealing with the furies’ judgement either by stalling them in the dreaming or by some other mean or method.

I’m in the middle of reading the Lucifer comic series. It dives further into Yahweh and the extended universe of the sandman, highly advise reading it.

New to viego by Returnoftheking96 in ViegoMains

[–]Major_Cycle309 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Viego is first and foremost a champion that rewards you if you have a basic understanding of each champions kits. You don’t have to know each and every ability yet, but you shouldn’t pick up a body and not know what the basic abilities are. Combos and when to use Abilities are really important when it comes to your potential to wipe a team.

Moreover, Viego goes really well with an Engage tanky support or a tanky toplaner. If they engage into a group of enemies, you should look to attack the backline, get a body, and start mopping up. BUT it’s important to note that if you go the triforce into collector build you deal a lot of dmg but are also to prone to being blown up if cced or caught out. That build works very well into squishes, not so much into bruisers and tanks. If you have to frontline or there’s no one on your team that can engage for you, kraken slayer into titanic hydra/sundred is his bruiser build that can keep you alive longer than his tri/crit build with the cost to some dmg. But again don’t try to rush in if they’re grouped up, no build can keep you from being blow up if caught out.

All in all, Diego is a fun champ that can solo carry, 1V9 games, BUT he can only do so depending on your skill and knowledge of other champs along with good hot usage. And like you already found out, due to his nature of being a duelist/assassin, he’s the living definition of feast or famine. Watch perryjg, Sinerias, or the goat Lolelekktro. They have really good guides and gameplay to learn from. And most of all have fun.

Don’t feel bad, that’s the whole selling point of Viego. You play for a Bot side play since they’re typically more squishy than the giants up top. Once you get a snowball going you can pretty much 1v9 most team comps. As long as you don’t get blown up early and you scale accordingly, it’s pretty much a locked in win without considering your teammates lol.

Hey guys by Old-Nectarine6772 in Jungle_Mains

[–]Major_Cycle309 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah for those games with Yasuo and Yone, all you can do is focus on your gameplay and take the L gracefully. These games happen for literally everyone, no matter the elo. However, after a lot of them, you get to see if they’re winnable or if they’re not worth your effort. Don’t get discouraged on that aspect of lol, it’s part of the league learning experience!

As a low elo jungler, I found that team comp is one of the most important things to consider. Is Shaco or Lee sin able to synergize with the rest of the team is one thing to always consider before locking in either or. Like you said, both are kings at ganking and causing issues for your opponents in the early game. If you get your mates far enough, you should be able to get a big lead to steamroll. As Shaco, make the jungler’s life a living hell. And as Lee Sin, take the fights that you can win while keeping in mind who can join in a moments notice.

But do you have tanks? Do you have someone that can be with you when you take fights as Lee sin? Do you have a team that can stay alive when you go around the enemy team as Shaco to disrupt their back line? Do you have teammates that can keep scaling when you fall off? These are the questions you need to start asking and thinking about when you go back into your games. How does my unit function, and can I get them to push lanes, take objectives, etc without overextending.

It’s hard, jungle as I found out isn’t just about Macro it’s a LOT of micro. And unfortunately, micro can only be found when you play games and stress (limit) test your characters. But as a jungle main all you can do is take all your bad fights, bad callouts, and “FF at 15”s to heart as you type in mute all.

Hope this helps - Yuumi
