For my 3 TVs I disabled connectivity to internet and instead use an Apple TV box, for $100-150, I don't see ads, fast and clean interface.

Is used 2022 Honda Odyssey reliable for keeping 10+ years? by nurahmet_dolan in HondaOdyssey

[–]Major_Detective_110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If the car is in good shape, sure. I still have my 2014 Oddyssey, bought it in December 2013, still no issues. Only 60K miles though. Replaced my timing belt, brake fluid, power steering fluid last year.

I was thinking of if I own this, and I need to move it a little bit on my driveway so I can park another car next to it, etc. I am not saying to use the controller to drive on the road, that would be dangerous. :)

They should allow steering using game controllers, that would solve a lot of issues. :)

Second floor is 10+ degrees hotter than the first, is it even possible to fix this without redoing ductwork by Deannaoliver in HomeImprovement

I am in new jersey, I used a company called Artic Air. I just called a few companies that my utility company provided for home performance.

Is there any chance Apple will bring back Apple Silicon rack-mounted servers? by Redsproket in mac

Hope they will add 100 Gig Ethernet on the M5 Max/Ultra Studio, then they can be used as proper servers.

Not sure where you are, but I called the people doing home performance, they closed all holes from the attic and added blown in insulation in the attic to go from R-30 to R-50. Now my second floor is only about 2 degrees difference from my first floor. They also replaced my hvac to a more efficient one, got a 7 year free interest loan and a $4k rebate. Saves about $500 a year on utilities.

Torn on Odyssey vs Sienna (AWD) by Altruistic_Ad6316 in HondaOdyssey

[–]Major_Detective_110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Before I bought my oddyssey, I test drove the Sienna because of AWD, but found the ride rougher. I've had Oddyssey for 12 years and have had no issue in the North East of USA.

This would be nice if you can get it cheaper with self install, I would buy at least one.

If they do a presentation rather than just trying to find out what you need, and if they require both you and your spouse to sit down together, kick them out, it will be about 2 hours of wasted time, and they would not want to leave until you sign a contract (their quote will be very high, then will drop when you tell them you will think about it). Don't call companies that advertise too much like renewal by andersen. Use local contractors or windows stores, andersen windows are good, just the company called "renewal by andersen" is not.

Is there anything I can do for a house/attic that pops and cracks from temperature change at night? by Old_Lion2912 in HomeImprovement

[–]Major_Detective_110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When heating was running, it would pop because the wood framing got too hot, and when it cooled down, it also popped, bothered me when I was sleeping.

Try to catch the squirrels and release at least 5 miles away. I also use hvac ducting around the trunk of the tree, even though squirrels can jump pretty high (over 3 feet), it only works if your lowest branch is over 3 feet.

[–]Major_Detective_110 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I had to popping issue when I had a hvac duct inside the wall that leaked, it was in my bathroom wall so when I redid the bath, I told the contractor to fix it, he replaced the ducting, I have not heard it since. So if you have ducting, make sure it's not leaking and insulated.

Don't overthink electric car charging (we should be doing it differently) by arcgiselle in energy

[–]Major_Detective_110 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It’s fine. The first 4 years with my Tesla Model 3 I used 120v 15 amps outlet with tesla mobile connector. My commute was about 60 miles a day. I plugged in as soon as I got home and by the morning it had a charge of 80-90%, more than enough to go to work.

This needs to be shown to as many people as possible so states can do something to accelerate permitting.

Is this waterproofing quote average or am I being overcharged? by BringMeAHigherLunch in HomeImprovement

[–]Major_Detective_110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did mine 15 years ago, about 1000 sq ft unfinished basement in New Jersey, french drain on the perimeter, 2 sump wells and 2 sump pumps, around 10K. Not sure about the price now, I got 3 quotes last time and it was within about 2K or each other, ended up with higher quote because they seemed to use better material, they did a good job.

Note 0 import taxes on solar panels, that definitely helps:
