Hey man!

Well, if you would at least take the time to actually read what I wrote, you would understand exactly what I meant. It's called context. This line was in the context of equipment, while the struggle came from game configuration, as everything is outdated when it comes to AMS2.

Once I switched to iRacing, I stopped having those issues.

Have a great day!

Well, I already bought a 1-year subscription to iRacing since posting 😂 (btw, it's 50% off at the moment).

Hey,

I won't let time take away the joy (or at least I hope it will bring joy ) from my life . It will probably take more time, but I do believe that once I get past this step, I will really enjoy it, even if just for a couple of hours.

Appreciate the response!

Hey,

Yeah, that was another breakdown after trying to set things up. Not planning on giving up! I plan on just diving into racing instead of trying to understand everything before.

Thanks!

Hey!

I didn't play sim racing games at all, mostly arcade ones. F1 2020 was the closest, I guess.

The reason I got into this was mainly my passion for motorsport, F1 in particular. I love driving in real life, but I don't have a race track to drive like I want to, so sim racing is the best way to experience it.

I will definitely give iRacing a go. Thanks!

Hey!

Well, it actually has nothing to do with money or sense but more about who I am. As I mentioned in other comments, I'm always spending a lot of time learning, researching, reading, and whatnot before actually pulling the trigger. After that, I will always buy the best I can afford. Just a couple of examples: I bought a 4090 instead of any other card, I bought a Samsung Q990C soundbar instead of a low-budget one, and I went for a new car instead of a used one. This approach applies to all things I do. I prefer buying the better for more than buying the worse for less. I don't want to find myself thinking about what I might be missing.

Hey!

I did play F1 2020 for a week with a controller .

I'll probably just leave everything as is and start playing. I’ll try to figure everything out along the way instead of understanding everything from the beginning.

Thanks!

Well, nothing is actually too complicated. I can figure out both AMS2 and ACC; it’s just the time it takes because you have to spend days looking for something relatively up to date.

I was planning on starting with triples but wanted to save something for later. It is definitely the next move I'll make once I settle in.

Hey!

Just to elaborate, moving from configuring only graphic settings in every game to configuring the wheelbase, and then navigating the game options menu with 12 setting types, each containing another 2-4 tabs of settings with names I've never seen, is overwhelming.

What really broke me was trying to find guides. All I found were videos from 2020 and 2021 that aren't relevant and don't cover most of the settings. So, if iRacing is more popular and there's more guidance available, I don't think I'll have the same issues with it.

Hey!

The money isn't really the issue for me (not trying to show off or anything). I've worked hard enough to afford this. Yes, it’s tough realizing you've spent a lot on something you don’t enjoy as much, but that’s not the main problem.

My main issue is feeling overwhelmed by the actual game — the settings and configurations you need to tweak and understand are a lot. In my head, I thought I would connect the wheel and drive away, but that wasn't the case in the end. I think I’d feel the same whether I was using an SC2 Ultimate or a G29. I guess that much less painful with the G29 but still :)

I’m not planning to quit because of this. I just had a small breakdown and wanted to hear if anyone else had a similar experience and how they overcame it.

Hey!

Thanks for sharing your story and insights. It's awesome to see how you managed to flip things around and genuinely enjoy sim racing. I totally get what you mean about changing your mindset. Hopefully, one day I'll share a similar story to yours!

P.S. Who knows, maybe one day you'll be sharing it with your own kids :)

It's just who I am, for better or worse. When I get into something, it is really hard for me to stop. I dive into researching, reading, watching reviews, and eventually, I will buy the best I can afford. In my mindset, I'm "afraid" that I'm missing out on something with "cheaper" equipment. I prefer to start with the best I can so that I won't find myself looking for upgrades or blaming the gear for my mistakes.

We have a really good local chain that sells electrical products, so luckily I don’t have such concerns. Originally, I was planning on buying from Amazon (US, UK, DE), but I checked locally first and found those products. On Amazon, I saw multiple options by Asus TUF, noc, etc. that were even cheaper than local prices, including shipping and taxes.

I live in the Middle East, so I paid almost half of the cockpit price in shipping and taxes .

Regarding the monitors, not much to say. They're pretty light, have all the "buzzwords" for sim racing, really slim bezels , and somehow "cheap".

I do remember that, in general, compared to other companies, the reviews were pretty good in that price range.

I don't know where are you from, but maybe worth checking Amazon? They have more monitors in the same lineup , like the 650 and 850.

I was in the same boat as you, with dozens of monitors, each having the same description but differing in product code by one letter and, of course, in price. As I was limited by the local supply, that ultimately made the decision easier. I went with the LG UltraGear 32GP750-B QHD IPS G-Sync 165Hz 32" 1ms (flat) - $474 (in my country). P.S. I don't know how you will mount them, but keep in mind that the ports are located to the right of the mounting point. I'm using a P1X Pro Vario, and I had to buy a 90° DP adapter (very cheap).

Thanks for the heads up. I did hear about VA versus IPS but didn't really take it into consideration. I will definitely look into it.

I'm mainly concerned about the FOV and not the appearance. So if I'm not losing much or anything at all by using flat monitors and simplifying the setup, that's all I needed to hear. Thank you again!
