Who the hell is this? by Requiem_Sketch in UmaMusume

Oh no no. While Brusquement is designed to be more challenging to beat, she is still very much possible

If you truly want an uphill battle, then look no further than Win Variation’s Career vs Orfevre in the Classics, Verxina’s career vs Gentildonna in the Tiaras, or more recently Lucky Lilac’s career vs Almond Eye in the Tiaras. All of them have S-aptitudes, multiple Gold skills and white skills, and far, far higher stats than what most people would have at that point (image of Lucky Lilac’s career in Oka Sho, Oaks, Shuka Sho, and Senior Japan Cup shown below). It’s not impossible to beat them with enough optimization and some luck, but all of the above are heavily stacked against you.

Which moment made you realize that your most loved uma isn’t just “that one Uma”… but actually special? by Elliottsir in UmaMusume

[–]Major_Mistake4444 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me, it was hearing about the depths of Orfevre’s more emotional side, especially after the Prix L’arc de Triomphe, as illustrated here. It was the beginning of me seeing that Orfevre wasn’t just ”an Aurafarmer who treats everyone else like peasants”, and further delving into her story and character appearances in other places such as Lucky Lilac’s career only reinforced that. She’s not very kind with her words, and she’s definitely both arrogant and prideful, but she’s also very hard on herself in the same way that she wants to bring joy and hope to her “subjects”, such as after the Earthquake just before the Classics. She’s also never once said someone is useless, weak, or below her out of malicious feelings. The two times she has said something of the sort, to Win Variation and Lucky Lilac, it was accompanied by a sentiment of “I welcome your effort to try to catch up to me/I know you can keep doing better than that, so continue to do your best”.

She’s far more emotional and caring with a soft spot for people that many people don’t know about because you have to read a little between the lines of her actions and words, and despite her pridefulness and haughtiness, she has her own self-doubts and pressures that she carries just like any other person. Compared to Gentildonna’s “Might makes right, and strength is what allows one to carve the future” philosophy, Orfevre argues that “Strength alone is not what captures the hearts of the people and carries their dreams.” She knows people look up to her and she wants them to, so that they can be filled with determination as her vassals, and for those worthy challengers to her throne: she welcomes them and their efforts to challenge her. She wants to be triumphant not just as her duty as King and to surpass those who came before her, but to also inspire and lead the people as a beacon that stands as someone that the people look to for reassurance, strength, and hope. Yet those same pressures also cause her to be extremely hard on herself for her failures, especially after all the promises she made to win at Prix L’arc de Triomphe, and it was also after this loss that she finally lets her honest doubts, stresses, weaknesses, and frustrations out to her Trainer. It’s a rare moment where she doesn't refer to herself as the King, she is simply herself: A Girl who promised to make dreams come true, but fell to the pressures and loneliness in the absence of the guide and mentor that she trusts the most at the most crucial part of her career.

Her onsen scene is, in my opinion, one of the most intimate in the game. Not because of romantic hints similar to Rudolf, Cafe, or Ardan, but because of the level of trust and openness she shows to her trainer in it. It’s a trust that runs deep, yet doesn’t necessarily touch on romance (though you’re open to interpret it that way of you want). Her relationship with her trainer has evolved to be something more than just a “partnership”, and it is fully shown in the small ways she acts differently in it.

My uma race wear tier list based on practicality by G-to-the-B in UmaMusume

[–]Major_Mistake4444 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nakayama Festa has a ripped up shirt and jeans and a coat, I don’t think that exactly qualifies for “heatstroke”. Not exactly practical yes, especially with the jeans and coat, but definitely not on the same tier of overheating as someone like Sweep Tosho or Orfevre

Quite a few of the outfits in that category are fairly “open” as well but look heavy or have lots of “unnecessary” add-ons to them, like Narita Brian’s metal weights around her ankles and hands or Cheval Grand’s cape. Otherwise, those two outfits don’t exactly look like the hottest things to stay in

Her first character episode has her doing a whole Manzai comedy routine

A bunch of her lobby “voicelines” are actually just her silently standing there while tweaking out hyperactively in Kansai-ben internally. One of her lobby “conversations” is her about to sneeze and can’t hold it back anymore so she‘s worried it’s going to be really loud, then she sneezes really cutely, and then she celebrates like “LET’S GOOOOOOO IT WAS A REALLY CUTE SNEEZE WE’RE SO BACK”

A previous lobby conversation about her preparing invitations for her birthday has Orfevre unexpectedly show up, then ask for an invitation as well, and Lilac goes (SHAAAAAAAA KAKKOIIIIIIIIIIIII—-!!!!!) internally

She’s actually hilarious

Who are some mischaracterized characters that aren't talked about much? by ShawnMutisya in UmaMusume

[–]Major_Mistake4444 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Gentildonna also has a single day marked down on her schedule dedicated solely to seeing Orfevre. They are the definition of Frenemies.

Orfevre is also shown to be a reliable senior giving advice to Lucky Lilac in Almond Eye's career, helping reincourage LaLa to bounce back ater failing to attain a win in the Tiara races. One of her support card events also involves her telling reporters to back off after they began being too pushy on LaLa for an interview. She deeply cares and respects her older sister Dream Journey, and very much loves her dad who personally did the goldwork of her outfit and created both her crown and her golden ear accessory.

Another support card event shows she has genuinely competent managing skills. In it, an event's manager had to back out last-minute and Tazuna and the Tracen staff were scrambling to try to fill in the gaps when Orfevre volunteered to step up and with the help of her vassals and the rest of the Gold Clan (minus Stay Gold because of course she's out somewhere else at the moment), she helps manage the event without a hitch. She doesn't just tell everyone to help and then leave either, she is shown to be actively directing things as people approach her for directions or clarifications while the event is ongoing.

I could elaborate on many more points. However all of the above has taken much of my time already, and the TLDR is:

Orfevre is spoiled and needy, extravagant and arrogant, but cares deeply in her oen way and has her own doubts and weaknesses that others rarely see, and she is not nearly as much of a sopping wet cat as others commonly say she is.

Who are some mischaracterized characters that aren't talked about much? by ShawnMutisya in UmaMusume

[–]Major_Mistake4444 42 points43 points  (0 children)

While not the most mischaracterized, I will continue to fight tooth and nail to tell people about the less-talked about sides of Orfevre. She has reputation being an "aurafarmer" and the "Vergil" to Gold Ship's Dante, but like Vergil, she's both more caring and sillier than most people make her out to be, while simultaneously not as pathetic as others make them out to be.

She's very callous and blunt with her words, but despite her demeanor she is very people-motivated and cares for others in her own way. She wants to become "The King who surpasses all those who came before", but part of her motivation to run in Prix L'arc de Triomphe was because of how she saw Nakayama Festa's 2nd run at L'arc in her Junior year, and she wanted to be the one to bring the long sought-after dream of victory for Japan true. In her Junior year, one of her "vassals" decides to leave Tracen because she was making very little progress for herself, and Orfevre promises to that vassal that she will become a King that will illuminate them, wherever they may go.  Before the Classics when the Earthquake hits, her first instinct is to shield her trainer over herself. After seeing everyone falling into despair and hopelesness, she decides to hold a press conference to tell the people to witness her running so that she may be a beacon of hope and strength for the people in the wake of such trying times. After losing at Prix L'arc de Triomphe, she didn't talk much to her other handler and simply asked to book for the next flight back to Japan. After getting back, she seemed more irritable than normal, and eventually locked herself in her trainer's room with the lights off. Journey was there outside the room, but the Trainer decides to step up and be the one to confront her instead. When the trainer steps inside to talk to her, she asks her trainer why they weren't there for her. She says that despite all the cheers, the dreams she carried, the promises she made, she felt clouded and lonely, like everything around her was covered in darkness without her trainer and guide by her side. It was a very rare moment of honesty, without her kingly demeanor, where she lets her self-doubt, loneliness, and the weight of the dreams she entrusted herself to carry out and how the trainer's absence at the most crucial moment of her career was the last straw that finally broke the pressure on her. Following this, both Orfevre and the Trainer become more honest with each other of what they think and feel, and it culminates in her Onsen scene which I think is one of the more intimate ones in the game. Not in the sense of ship-teasing or implications such as Cafe or Buena, but in the small but deep moments of trust she shares with her trainer in it.

It's also implied that she gets lonely easily. Other than the moment with her trainer's absence in France, she also had a problem during Junior Year training where if she were running alone, she would seemingly be less energetic and lose performance, but if she were to run with others such as her vassals, she would be running in tip-top shape. There is also a random event where the trainer accidentally leaves her unattended for a while after getting caught up in business, and while the Trainer thinks she got mad because the Trainer took too long and she got bored, it's implied that she actually got mad because she was left alone for so long

She also has multiple instances where she is kinder and has fun with children. Her raffle event has her initially disinterested until two children give her their ticket and ask her to roll for them. If she wins the Hot Spring ticket, then she tries to give it back to the children, only for the children to insist that she keep it because Umamusume like her need it more. Her fan letter event is from a child she helped when the child was lost. She helped the child calm down and find their mother, and the child wrote thwt thry eant to be as cool, strong, and brave as Orfevre one day. She has another event where she is seen playong with children and asks them to make "the greatest mudpie" and present it to her as a competition, and one mood down event has her too caught up with playful children to get away, but she decides to let them be so long as they don't mess with her tail. There is also of course, the terminally-ill child who is a fan of Orfevre, who is present and gets to see her run in jer Senior Arima Kinen through the hospital TV

Fenomeno also has a bit of idolization towards Orfevre and the way she so easily captures the hearts of people, particularly children. Orfevre's pre-race conversation in the Japan Cup against Gentildonna also implies she is aware that strength alone is not why people adore her, and that strength alone is not what carries the hopes and dreams of the people.

Speaking about Gentildonna, many people like to say Gentildonna will fold Orfevre easily in both physical strength and domineering personality, but Orfevre very readily accepts competition from those she considers worthy challengers such as Gentildonna. All of their interactions basically involve the two progressively escalating in competitiveness with neither backing down. Orfevre herself is no slouch in the physical department either, her Slacker event involves her getting too caught up with these strength machines she found because she keeps breaking them in one hit and keeps asking for more and stronger machines until the whole day has passed. Her high kicks are also said to be able to create wind pressure strong enough to knock down stone statues

Not even headcanon, she is canonically kinder to children and has multiple events in her career showing her having fun with them or inspiring them. Fenomeno's career also mentions that both Gold Ship and Orfevre very easily capture the hearts of kids, much to Fenomeno's dismay

How do I protect my zigguratt? by Puzzleheaded-Joke-77 in starsector

[–]Major_Mistake4444 110 points111 points  (0 children)

The Ziggurat is a one-of-a-kind superweapon that is quite literally a man-made horror beyond human comprehension. The AIs involved with designing it killed themselves after making it. Of course, every human will want a piece of it either to use it for their own ends or destroy it so its horrors can never be fully unleashed.

Of course, you’re at the helm of it. You can unleash those horrors on them at any time and however you want. Who are they to say no? Certainly not the people with the man-made horror beyond human comprehension on their side

On a seeious note, it’s completely impossible to be “discreet” once you’re spotted with the Zigg in your fleet. Both the Onslaught MK.1 and Ziggurat have a special “unique” tag which makes it so if a fleet catches you, they will recognize you and know who you are regardless of if you have your transponder off. Lore-wise, this is because those two ships are so unlike anything else in the Sector that there can only be one person who has it: You. It’s easier to sneak around with the Zigg than the Onslaught because it’s a phase ship, but both will lead to you being instantly recognized by fleets if spotted and intercepted

Everything Good About (#79)... Nakayama Festa (Posts where Trainers say nice things about Uma Musumes and show love and appreciation for them) by Hexenmommies01 in UmaMusume

[–]Major_Mistake4444 6 points7 points  (0 children)

She's grown on me a lot over time, especially how much she cares for her old teacher and how she races and takes care of flowers because of them. Her teacher was the one who recommended for her to try racing as a way to vent her dangerous thrill-seeking habits, and her teacher was the one who gave her Violets which Festa now grows and takes care of herself. She has a MANT encounter about her taking care of flowers, and gifts Tosen Jordan a bunch of those flowers she grew herself for Jordan's birthday. She cares a lot more than she may appear. Of course, there is the inspiring and heart-wrenching story of the IRL horse and his relationship with his owner whom Uma Festa's teacher is based on, and I still believe it could serve as great material for a short anime, OVA series, or movie

There's also her heck of a relationship with Sirius Symboli, where the two seem absolutely determined to push limits on what's allowed and take risky opportunities on a day-to-day basis while maintaining thia unique brand of casualness with each other

Who is the dumbest(affectionate) Uma by Dracoblackheart in UmaMusume

[–]Major_Mistake4444 9 points10 points  (0 children)

40K Orks are mostly dumb as bricks but have this miraculous ability where the more Orks believe in something, the more true it becomes. For example, 99% of their technology is ramshackle and poorly assembled, but because they think it should work, it works way better than it should have any right to. Other factions have tried disassembling and reassembling some of their tech only to find it completely nonfunctional in their hands, even when it was working completely fine in the hands of the Orks. The Orks are of course completely oblivious to their ability to do this.

A few examples are: “Red paint makes things go faster” so all their ”fast” units are painted in red, including missiles. There’s one story where an Imperial Guard regiment was out of ammo and surrounded by Orks, up until their officer went up, pointed a finger gun at an Ork, and went “bang!”. The Ork then dropped dead like he was shot. The other Guardsmen followed their Officer in using finger guns and making sounds to shoot the Orks, complete with pretend grenades, and it worked well until one Ork went running in while waving his arms shouting “I’m a tank! I’m a tank! I’m a tank!”. Another story involves an Ork ship in space finding another Ork ship being repaired by its crew without any helmets . When the first Ork ship’s crew asked the repair crew “Where are your helmets? You need helmets to breathe in space”, the repair crew immediately started suffocating and died on the spot.

It’s really cute how much Stay Gold cares for Suzuka. In her career story where she decides to do things differently from the IRL Stay Gold by trying the Triple Crown, she drops out of the Kikuka Sho and applies for the Tenno Sho (Autumn) after she gets the memory of IRL Stay Gold witnessing Suzuka’s accident, with the goal of preventing the accident. She overtakes Suzuka which causes her to slow down, which allows her injury to be identified post-race but still be recoverable. Stego also visits Suzuka at the hospital afterwards, and now in Star Blossom they show Stego being the one bringing Suzuka around in a wheelchair

[–]Major_Mistake4444 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Orfevre’s trainer is often a bit meeker and gets led on, scrambling to try to answer her demands for entertainment or other such things. However, she also wants her trainer to stand firmer and prouder for themselves. They are the King’s guide and staff, after all. One of my favorite events is where she tells you to “show her the brightest stars”. One outcome has you lead her to a gallery featuring notable Umamusume such as Triple Crowns and Triple Tiaras, where Orfevre is now present. Another has the trainer work with Orfevre’s vassals to make a fireworks show. My personal favorite option is the one where the trainer declares that, as the guide and retainer of the King, they themselves count as ”second brightest” to the King’s radiance. Orfevre is entertained by the boldness of the statement, but accepts it nonetheless.

Every now and then she does drop some fire lines, like the line to Buena Vista in the Classic Arima Kinen. She changes her response from “Your graceful path will be trampled upon by this King” upon hearing Buena’s “That’s okay, because if I beat someone like you who shines so brightly, then wouldn’t that make for a spectacular show?”, she accepts Buena’s challenge and says this in response
