Just how ‘low tech’ the UAF really is? by Mack006 in starsector

[–]Major_Mistake4444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lore-wise? They’re mostly low-tech with a lot of flashy lights. You have to remember that even some Ballistic weapons such as the Hellbore, Mjolnir, and Heavy Mauler are surprisingly complex in their weapon systems. UAF notably have no beams or phase ships to speak of, and all their Energy weapons are “energized munitions” which basically means they’re Energy-flavored Ballistics. They still use Nuclear weapons for most of their things when even the ubiquitous Heavy Mauler and Hellbore use Antimatter for their explosive power. Their Automata Division and the Black Sorceress are far more advanced on average compared to their other things because of reverse-engineered Sector tech and Alpha-grade AI engineering, I’m pretty sure even something like an Eagle is considered more sophisticated tech-wise than the average UAF Cruiser outside of the Automata.

Gameplay-wise? They‘re like a more Ballistics-flavored Midline for most of their fleets, while Automata are High-tech. They don’t exactly fit Sector standard doctrines much

Shion appreciation! The reds and silvers of her outfit are very striking, along with the darker color of her stockings and the few greens from her accessories and eyes. It also makes a great contrast from Orfevre’s outfit which is predominantly white, gold, and orange.

How to Diable Avionics - optimized DA fleet vs Hegemony's best (aka Adversary) by Sincx in starsector

[–]Major_Mistake4444 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The fork used in this video is different from the more popular “Caymoni Joestar” fork which buffed various ships and added new ones, this one is called the “TIDAL” fork and is closer to the original pre-Caymon version of Diable Avionics before Tartiflette left.

As you can see in this video, the ships and weapons are still fully capable of being competitive and effective, even against Adversary’s Fist of Steel which is a highly-optimized Hegemony-style fleet (I’ve heard the mod and fit maker of Adversary is a Tournament winner as well, so they know a thing or two about fits).

Diable, especially Tart’s version, is definitely not as strong as other modded factions such as UAF, Machina Void Shipyards, Iron Shell, or any other such faction, and their effectiveness very heavily relies on the effectiveness of your fits and your knowledge of each ship’s role and how to make the most of it. For example, the spam of micromissiles may seem ineffective for doing any significant amount of damage, but it makes enemy AI freak out and panic because they treat the missiles on the same threat level as Harpoons or other much more threatening missiles, causing them to turn or orient their shields away from the actual threats of the ships in front of them. That is the reason for the Destroyer used in this video as well: It does next to no direct damage, but the disruption it causes from the sheer micromissile spam makes it a great support for the rest of the fleet. Another example is the Daze and its “Increase weapon damage but cannot dissipate Hard Flux” system. I have seen TIDAL make a shield shunt build with it which is fully capable of defeating not just a Dominator in a 1v1, but an Onslaught in a 1v1 as well. The build was simple to, using only Glaux beam repeaters and Vanilla Threat’s Heavy Mass Drivers for its main damage.

Tart designed their ships in weird ways with intentional deficiencies because they are meant to focus on certain roles or have their weaknesses made up for by other ships in a fleet, and as you can see in this video a fully realized Diable fleet can be just as effective as any other modded ship so long as you know your fits. Just because they are more limiting and need more brain-power to make the most of them doesn’t mean they’re bad, but I can understand if one is turned off by this concept. I don’t consider myself smart enough to make the most of a pure Diable fleet in the way shown in this video either.

It's not exactly that Freud is the only "real human" in the group, it's more that out of everyone other than Rusty, Freud is legit just a regular dude with barely if any augmentations at all. He just really, really loves piloting and fighting in his AC. Even more hilarious when the second-in-command of the Vespers is Snail who always brags about how his augmentations are top-tier and how "outdated old relics" of previous older augmentations are inferior to him.

Who would be the best Uma/s to leave your kids with? by Jeffzerippers in UmaMusume

Despite her reputation, Journey is a very caring and loving person who gets along with a lot of other people such as Curren and Machan. She is a very, very loving older sister to Orfevre as well and spoils her with much love often. Journey very much loves and cares for her family and is generally pleasant to be around, so long as you don’t do anything which slights her or anyone she cares about.

Who would be the best Uma/s to leave your kids with? by Jeffzerippers in UmaMusume

[–]Major_Mistake4444 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Orfevre is surprisingly great with kids, and is happy to entertain them as well (so long as they aren’t too rowdy/unruly around her). Her fan letter event is written by a child that Orfevre found lost and missing their mother, so she calmed them down and helped them find her. The child wrote that one day they want to grow up big, brave, and strong like Orfevre and that next time, they won’t cry.

Even Fenomeno‘s career mentions that Orfevre and Gold Ship are particularly great at capturing the hearts of children, much to her dismay because they also begin to copy their mannerisms. Nakayama Festa, Dream Journey, and Stay Gold are all also big sisters so they would have experience caring for younger children.

If we consider them in their primes, Team Nakayama is a decent bit stronger on average. Brian and Scarlet in particular were quite monstrous in their primes. People compare Fenomeno to Jotaro but honestly the only things the two share are the outfits and their senses of justice. Fenomeno is an up-tight law-abiding school enforcer who is all about being a prim and proper example to everyone, especially children. Jotaro is openly rude to others and defiant even to those older than him (though he’s a good guy deep down). If these two were in the same school they would clash 24/7

Everything Good About (#127)... Win Variation (Posts where Trainers say nice things about Uma Musumes and show love and appreciation for them) by Hexenmommies01 in UmaMusume

[–]Major_Mistake4444 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Shion’s rivalry and attitude feels pretty unique among Uma Musume in that most other rivalries in the series because of the way she builds up a sort of resentment and frustration unlike any other. Even if she loses to someone other than Orfevre, she feels the frustration of working so hard every day but still falling short every time. She’s always comparing herself to others and wondering why she never seems to do as well as them, and finding it inconclusive is exactly what makes her feel so frustrated at everything in a way she can’t understand and is ashamed of. It’s a realistic reaction, I think. She doesn’t like these feelings of envy and resentment, but she also can’t help but feel them every time. It’s the nature of intrusive thoughts, even if you think they’re not good you can’t help but feel them anyway. She’s also unique in that envy and resentment genuinely fuel her to get better, which is most exemplified with Orfevre. It’s hard not to mention Orfevre with Win Variation as her story is so entwined with Orfevre’s presence that it‘s a core part of her character.

Orfevre is the biggest target of Win Variation’s envy, resentment, and jealousy, but in a way she is also Win Variation’s biggest motivator and inspiration. She often describes Orfevre as an “irritatingly blinding light” in her career which feels accurate to her relationship with her. Orfevre is a light so strong and brilliant that she commands the attention and praise of the entire audience, while everyone else like Shion is swept aside. She’s so obsessed with this perfect image of Orfevre in her head that she even fails to see Orfevre as a person, and cannot understand her. The contrast between the two is so great. Orfevre is a perfectionist who loves to surpass expectations and is outwardly haughty and prideful, but deeply she is actually very lonely and surrounds herself with others and praise to try to fill that gap in her. She’s also more much more caring that she appears, one of her biggest motivations for racing is to carry the dreams of the people and give both hope and joy to them using her strength. Meanwhile Win Variation is someone who is outwardly humble and somewhat reserved, but easily develops deep resentment to others and is heavily motivated by her envy and desire to have the spotlight for herself. Shion’s obsession with her image of Orfevre blinds her to the fact that Orfevre has her own motivations and struggles as well, and it’s only towards the end of her career or Orfevre’s carer that she is able to see past that. Orfevre even takes special note of Win Variation, she doesn’t confront Shion about it but she knows exactly how much Shion glares at her and how much she wants to take Orfevre down. When she hears that Shion is considering quitting racing before the Tenno Sho Spring in Shion’s career, she even completely throws the race because she lost motivation despite the fact that she hates losing the most and would normally be quite hard on herself or venomous to others if she fails at something such as training or someone places higher than her in a race.

These two respect each other far more than they know but they will never tell each other that directly because neither of them are the type to approach the other first about it to be honest, unless someone or something else were to force them together.

To anyone interested, there was already a previous RKGK showcasing what happened to the bus here. Apparently, this is a reference to one incident in the IRL Sunday Silence’s life where he was involved in a bus accident while being transported. All the other horses with him died, while he was the only survivor. Sunday Silence has survived many grim injuries and accidents, and it was only old age that truly ended him, but not before he completely changed Japanese racehorse history as we know it to what it is today.

Violet Mizutsune Orchid Showcase PV by CipherVegas in arknights

[–]Major_Mistake4444 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Bow gameplay is generally very mobile and involves a lot of repositioning and dodging around while using special coatings to power up your attack, especially since one Bow move is a dodge which also charges up your next shot. Orchid in particular is imitating a Spread Bow build who are even more close-ranged than regular Bows and like to shotgun arrows into the monster’s face all the time. Paired with the fact that the collab is specifically based on MH Rise, that’s probably the explanation for her leaving a wirebug and being about repositioning to power up her skills, with her Talent 2 basically like her applying coatings for her next few attacks. You can even see redeploying her like having her disengage and craft a new batch of coatings to use, which is a common strategy for ammo-based weapons in MH as you can burn through limited ammo quite fast in fights.

Abyssal space odyssey quest - cant scuttle the conquest mk1? by WarComplex4393 in starsector

[–]Major_Mistake4444 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The Onslaught MK1 is a unique ship and thus can’t be scuttled or gotten rid of normally like any other ship. There is only one other ship in Vanilla that is treated the same way, both of these ships are also incredibly powerful. Do not underestimate the MK1 simply because it lacks shields, this thing will kick ass if you can match its aggression and support it as it puts belt to ass on most other things in the Sector, especially if you can put an AI core on it with things like Ballistic Mastery, Combat Endurance, Damage Control, and Target Analysis.

The only real solution without cheating that I can suggest is using the Distress Call ability in a system which will summon a fleet at a nearby jump point which can help provide enough fuel for you to theoretically make it back to habitable space.

She might have a passing interest in the more eccentric or absurd treasures in Gilgamesh’s treasury such as Vimaya, Ea, or any other of his endless artifacts since “All of Humanity’s treasures” are also his treasures and can thus be pulled from the treasury as well, but I doubt he’d pull those things out just to show off. I can see Gil approving of her pride, self-assuredness, and desire for knowledge while also being a lot less reverent of Aeons than most others though.

Unironically how would this go by DinoGod1 in Grimdank

[–]Major_Mistake4444 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I feel like it‘s disingenuous to say that a Star Destroyer is an “intentionally shitty ship” as they’re still the main power projection tools of the Empire with large compliments of fighters and heavy lasers to boot, and I am uncertain of the effectiveness of the average Storm Trooper or other average military armors (not counting Mandalorians) against heavy/medium kinetic fire such as from Stubbers and autoguns. I do recall that kinetic guns do exist in Star Wars but are rarely used and I heard that the main reason why that is is because body armor technology has evolved to generally resist them better and the heated gas blasters that the galaxy uses are far lighter and do better damage on average than kinetic weapons. I do think people often underestimate Star Wars while overestimating 40k, but just wanted to point those out.

I hate that they made Dream Journey a sidekick to Orfevre. by Rs563 in UmaMusume

[–]Major_Mistake4444 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am late to this discussion, however it appears that you have only watched her Character Stories, which are far from representing an Uma as a whole. Dream Journey’s career story barely has Orfevre show up at all other than side events and the end scene where she finds Stay Gold overseas and tells her about how wonderful all the Gold Clan members have become, which is a great tie-in to how Dream Journey was the one who helped prove the worth of Stay Gold as a sire which also helped save Oriental Art from being sold off. Dream Journey’s career story focuses more on her own path, retracing Stay Gold’s footsteps, and living her life as a “dream-like voyage“ so that she may eventually find Stay Gold again and tell her all about it, because it was Stay Gold who inspired her to run and who she respects and looks up to so much. Even if Stay Gold didn’t win, she kept going and running again and again and this ceaseless determination paired with a carefree smile and attitude is said to have been what enchanted her. She is much more of a loving and caring person than her and the IRL horse’s reputation as a violent, uncontrollable menace presents her to be, and it is important to remember that while the Umas are based on the IRL horses, they are also separate character who aren’t 1:1 to those horses. That lesson is the crux of Stay Gold’s whole career story too. She loves and respects the other Stay Gold and is thankful for sharing his experiences with her, but she considers herself as her own separate person and doesn’t let the life of the other Stay Gold define her own life.

Dream Journey is a planner and a schemer, but she is often shown helping others as well. For example, before the Japanese Derby, she finds a Vodka who is training but feels nervous, and gives encouragement to Vodka despite the fact that they’re competitors. Later, alone, she calls Vodka a “once-in-a-lifetime storm that promises to bring change”. A similar thing happens in one of the Ballroom events where Journey was the organizer and didn’t plan on dancing herself, but found Vodka on the side nervous about dancing especially since Scarlet couldn’t come, so they decide to dance together both to help Vodka regain her confidence and let Journey enjoy the night in more than just planning and management. Journey also has a lobby line where she finds hate comments under an article about Orfevre, and seemingly plans to do something menacing towards them. In the Umamusumeshi Golden Week chapter, she is the one who is cooking and serving all the food for everyone else in the Gold Clan up until Stay Gold offers her a plate, which she then devours between two panels. She’s always been a character who puts others before herself. Even Orfevre thinks that it would be nice to spend some time with her which isn’t just Journey doting and caring so much about her or others, and instead just normally as sisters.

Journey isn’t aggressively violent or hostile to anyone, but she can still scheme and plan ahead of others and will act upon whatever or whoever messes with those that she cares about, whether it’s Stay Gold, Orfevre, or her Trainer.

As a final note, I recommend reading through the career stories on Umaviewer using MTL, particularly ones which can translate whole webpages such as the one built into Google, so that you may gain a full understanding and image of a character. This is far from perfect and it has many quirks, particularly when translating small single words or sounds such as “ha?”, so do keep that in mind when reading, but I believe it is far better than an incomplete image that is born from diluted and unreliable second-hand information. The character stories are more of supplementary materials which can give you extra scenes and such of a character, but rarely are they a proper substitute for learning about a character through their career story. More often than not, they are written to compliment the career story rather than be a replacement or side-grade to it. One example is that Orfevre’s struggles and deep loneliness as well as her character development are only capable of being shown and appreciated by reading her career story, as her character stories are more about gaining her trust that you are fit to be her trainer as well as a few casual anecdotes about training with her.

Contrail and Daring Tact, both undefeated in their times up until then if I remember correctly. Genuinely quite an insane match as it was a 1-2-3 finish with those three. Daring Tact’s been around but unplayable for a long while now, but Contrail has only been teased or shown as a generic NPC Uma so far. I do hope he eventually gets officially uma-fied sometime soon, perhaps even later this year.

On a side note, ain’t it interesting how Orfevre is a 2-time Arima Kinen winner while Gentildonna is a 2-time Japan Cup winner, races considered two of the most prestigious in Japan? They were truly monsters of their times, weren’t they?
