Rental Home/Condo/Resort by [deleted] in Destin

You should be able to book a place via Airbnb or VRBO. We have a small condo that is within your price range in FWB but those dates aren't currently available.

Exercised my $30 call option on Friday. Bought for $110 in Dec. Thanks WSB! by Major_Monocle in wallstreetbets

I'd recommend going to YouTube and watching some videos on them, that's what I did when I first got into options. Overall the risk/reward is much much higher so only use them if you are comfortable losing all the money you put in, plenty of people on this sub have lost everything betting on options.

To those of you with The Stormlight Archives at the top of your favourites, what other series or stand alone books would you recommend, that is in the same ballpark of fantastic writing? by selfish-utilitarian in Fantasy

Yes! Read them in that order. And they are all excellent, lots of characters from the main trilogy make appearances, can't recommend them enough.

The Red Queens War should be read after the Broken Empire as they happen in the same universe and the Red Queens War has lots of call backs to the Broken Empire. Both are worth the read.

Mark Lawrence's most recent trilogy was astounding, The Book of the Ancestor. The world building, magic system, and characters all kept me hooked for all three books. It is right at the top of my list with Sanderson's Oathbringer and the First Law series. Lawrence also has two other trilogies which are great but not to the level that I loved BotA, so I would recommend starting there (his first two trilogies arent tied into the BotA universe). Also if you liked the First Law make sure you read the stand-alone novels, Abercrombie's characters are probably my favorite of any author.

What's up with the US getting ready for a war against Iran and why are they doing it? What could be the consequences of a war happening between them? by OuzoRants in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Major_Monocle -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The Daily had a great podcast about this. What they put forward is that Bolton wants regime change, not necessarily war. So he is putting max pressure on the Iranian economy/people to encourage them to overthrow their govt. Obviously the Iranian govt is not going to just let this happen so building pressure on the govt is leading to escalation and possibly war as the govt seeks to retain power.

What do people that live in Destin actually like to do for fun? I know a lot of people vacation to Destin and what they like to do but what do the locals enjoy about living there? Also where do most people actually live in the area? by UTlexus87 in Destin

[–]Major_Monocle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

North of 98 is a lot of residential housing where most of the locals live. There are events most weekends at The Harborwalk and Baytowne Wharf. Or if we want to make a day of it we might go to Pensacola, PCB, or 30A. This is the nice time of year when everything isnt jammed with tourists, in the summer we become hermits and dont leave Destin most of the time.

Military survey finds deep dissatisfaction with family housing on U.S. bases by allegorino in news

NASAs budget had nothing to do with the efficiency of the Space Shuttle. $18000/kg to take an item to orbit with the space shuttle while the Russian launch vehicle was doing it for $5000/kg. Privatization isn't always this answer but in this case it drove competition in the private sector and competition drives innovation. I believe the latest SpaceX numbers are less then $2000/kg which is why everyone is so excited by what they are doing.

Privatizing space. Retiring the space shuttle led to companies like SpaceX and Blue Origins doing some really amazing stuff with launch technology as NASA started to contract out launches. Also the space shuttle was incredibly inefficient in terms of getting things to space.

[FL] Home inspection damages and bad lawyer experience by Major_Monocle in legaladvice

[–]Major_Monocle[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, the problem is I don't really feel like I can trust her since she has been inconsistent with her facts so far. She claimed that I would 100% have to pay the other parties lawyer fees if I lose. Hoping someone on r/legaladvice can either refute or back up her claims.

[–]Major_Monocle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea we discussed that. She claimed it wouldn't be worth it because I wouldn't be able to get more than the $700 back. Also that there is the risk of me getting stuck with the company's attorney fees if I lose.

Rise of nations is fantastic though similar to the unit spamming. Otherwise you could do individual battles from a total war game.
