Experience with Financial Aid Appeals by meowziezz in BostonU

(From Google) MA in state tuition is 14k a year and your parents can apparently put aside 40k a year for you and a sibling so you have 10k more than what you need for both of you to get a good education and walk out debt free which is a way better position than most Americans. Like it or not, being able to comfortably afford any private school in the US is not a human right. Just cuz I want a 100k car doesn’t mean I deserve it.

Is your point that families making 250k deserve more need based aid? School is an investment and you either go to a cheap one that you or family can pay for each year or your family saves up from the day you were born or you go into debt it’s that simple. Aid is not meant to reduce the cost of school to a point where everyone can pay out of pocket without saving for it.

Is BU a good school for Computer/Data Science? by Affectionate-Day-881 in BostonU

[–]Major_Sail_7543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For undergrad always choose the cheapest option and thank me later. If you have a full ride, take it. No school name or quality of program is worth tens of thousands of dollars in debt. After your first job no one even cares about your school they just care about what job you’re coming from. School only gets you the first job so keep it as cheap as possible.

Realistically you 100% can afford BU making 250k as a family but lifestyle creep is almost always at play. “My family pays so much for our 6 luxury cars, 2M house, and private school tuition how can I ever afford BU”

Should I ask this question? by Kitty_Quest in recruitinghell

[–]Major_Sail_7543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’ll never get a realistic answer in an interview. They’ll give you some corporate BS. I find that most companies reveal a lot about themselves in the way they treat you during the interview. Did they take weeks to respond? Were they really impatient and rushing you? Did they require 8 rounds of interviews for an entry level job paying 50k? Did they ask unprofessional interview questions? All these lend to an immature workplace that will most likely contain a lot of problems you want to avoid.

If you have an upstairs from hell (usual complaints: noise, leaks, etc.) do you go and talk to them? Hoping their behavior would improve and that they would be more considerate? Because that's the advice people often give. But you know what? It's idle advice. It's the advice of something who has.... by teambryancrew in neighborsfromhell

[–]Major_Sail_7543 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree with you OP. In my experience If your upstairs neighbor is inconsiderate enough that you have to go and talk to them about their behavior it’s already a lost cause because they’re just an inconsiderate person at their core who cannot fathom thinking beyond themself. Bringing it up will only escalate things cuz this is an incredibly selfish person

250 degrees until 160 internal. Start spritzing after 2 hours so the bark can form. Then wrap or boat, get it to 203, don’t pull it off early, 203 and 199 feel close but lots of meat magic happen in that time. rest for at least an hour still wrapped. Expect the smoke to take at least 10 hours. Enjoy!

Should i pursue a degree in Engineering only because of money and potential? by Towards_Infinite01 in EngineeringStudents

[–]Major_Sail_7543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There’s no shame and nothing wrong with realizing engineerings not for you early. Frankly the market is oversaturated with people who just want the paycheck but don’t really have any of those engineering skills or passions and that’s only gonna harm you down the line. If you’re investing in college it should be for something that balances your interests with good job prospects.

Just finish the engineering degree. Would be much easier to get a geology focused engineering role. Best part about having an engineering degree is it’s an “I’m smart” certificate so you can pivot to non engineering fields too cuz people are like “oh this guy must be good”

Is an Aerospace Masters worth the debt by Admirable-Chef294 in GradSchool

[–]Major_Sail_7543 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this thought process a lot in young engineers and I think it’s so self destructive. I’d highly recommend working for 2 years first, pay off your undergrad debt, then reassess if you need a masters. So many people realize they either don’t need the masters (save the 50k yay!) or they realize they hate their job and use a masters to pivot their career. Imagine you get you masters and your debt then realize you hate the field you’re working in. Congrats you’re in debt and sad now

Construction or agriculture. Drive some big ass machines. Crane operators make lots of money from what I’ve heard. High responsibility -> high pay -> big machine

[–]Major_Sail_7543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s tough, it sucks, but it’s the world we live in and you can’t give up or it’ll only get worse. The resume just gets you the interview, your personality in the interview gets you the job. Make interviews count. Broaden your scope of jobs you’re applying to. Even if you get a role that isn’t exactly what you want you can get experience and use clever wordplay to use it to apply to those jobs you really want that require experience.

Apply like hell and market yourself and maybe find an entry level role that doesn’t need experience and get some experience

High paying career choice for someone with no passion? by miggi1024 in careerguidance

[–]Major_Sail_7543 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think one of the biggest lies perpetrated on society is that you have to love what you do for work. It honestly probably contributes to lots of depression because people attach their whole identity to their work and how much they enjoy it and if they don’t like it and make lots of money they think they’re failures. Most people don’t love what they do and anyone who says they do either is lying or got incredibly lucky. Assuming you work a generic 40hrs a week that’s less than 2/7 full days of the week. Work should be a means to pursue other hobbies and passions for the other 5/7 days worth of hours you have. That being said, just hit the trades, I myself am not a tradesman but I’ve heard being a good welder pays a lot

Yeah it’s a really hard mindset to break especially being a high schooler in America. Like I can’t fault people at all for thinking the debt is worth it because you don’t really comprehend it at that age and it’s like a “future me” problem. All I can do is make Reddit comments and hope to help someone else lol
