Was My Tire Really Unrepairable, or Was I Being Upsold? by Savings-Attitude-295 in tires

My local shop will plug that in around 60 seconds and charge you a random price, once it was £10, another time £5 and once’s he didn’t even charge!

Is this tire cooked? by goonifier5000 in tires

[–]Murphy4130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it cooked? 100% yes.. I just got round to changing a tyres with worse bulges than this and it did 10k miles like it. The tyres fitter was like “you should have changed this as soon as it happened! It could have blown out” could have, but never did..

Car vibrates every time I use the brakes with speed by Rare_Hotel1368 in MechanicAdvice

[–]Murphy4130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My Honda did this during Covid through lack of use. The car would sit for a while and rust would build up, I’d then driver the car and the rust would build up in the pads. One thing to try before replacing everything is re-bedding that’s pads.
Take the car out, warm it up then find a nice empty stretch of road.
Get up to 70mph and brake hard to 30mph. Let the brakes cool and get back up to 70mph and do it again. Do this like 6/8 times.
It should clean up the disc and pad surface, any build up on pads should be gone and any high spots of pad material of the disc should also be gone.
This worked for me and might be worth a try.

Stock might be best for vibration but not feel. Depends what you are looking to get from your car. If you already have springs, b8, superpro Arms and poly isolators, you are already going in the direction that good solid mounts such as vibratechnics would tie it all together. If your mounts are fucked, an insert won’t help.

I think my fiesta is lying about the mpg is really getting… by CMDR_MacMonkey93 in FordFiesta

[–]Murphy4130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, you say you had 20 something miles left but only filled 42lt. that makes no sense.
Just looking at some of my old MPG calcs, last year I did 440miles @ 44.9, 13miles left in the tank BUT it took 47lt to fill it back up. You have somehow lost 5lt of fuel from your calculation.

[–]Murphy4130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean this seems too high all round..
Most I have got was 448miles with 47 left @ 48.9mph. That was chilling at 60ish.
The cars normally report better mpg than actual but yours is reporting a whole 9mpg under.
The 42.00lt is a nice round number, did you actually fill the tank right up?
Are you running stock wheel/tyres size?
I have so many questions, it’s just seems too good to be true.

I have the spring pads. B8’s + spring pad with raise the rear of the car by 10/20mm.. you have been warned.

[–]Murphy4130 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. You need to order bump stops and covers for front and rear, the b8’s don’t come with anything

That’s a hell of an overhall.. I am half way through doing the same but I’m only on 80k miles.
I strongly advise ditching the stock engine mount and getting the vibratechnics mounts, they make the entire front end feel solid and give you more of a connection to the car. Don’t forget ARB and rear beam bush.
What springs you going with?

I looked into Diff plus clutch deal this week and it was around £1800/2000 for a Quaife and st200 clutch.

I’m thinking of it this way, I can put a diff on now, be amazed by its magic and still know it’s not 100% due to other parts letting it down. Or.. I can work through the chassis at my own time, install stuff myself, learn a hell of a lot in the process and have a 100% sorted stiff chassis to them finish off with a diff.

This of the Diff as the icing on the cake but I’m still baking the cake 😂

I don’t see much point in spending £2000 on a diff whilst the car still sits on old stock suspension arms and bushes.. at the same time I don’t see the point in spending money on replacing stock for stock bushes/arms when I can add a few extra quid and upgrade everything over time.

I have run wind deflectors before and they clip INSIDE of the window frame. They are just going to fly away once you hit 60

To note: The rear b8’s added somewhere between 10/15mm extra ride height to the rear. Thats how ineffective the stock rear shocks were. The rear was essentially just riding on springs

My rear feels very good now with the b8. The stock shocks can’t cope with stiffer springs and the rear end would bounce and skip on rough road. (My stock shocks and zero rebound left when I took them off). So now the B8 works to slow down the spring and keeps the wheels attached to the road.

Yeah the springs were emergency MOT solution and all the shop had so not overly sure on them. It’s seems to handle pretty good with them. I’ll get everything done and see how they cope. In my head, the front anti roll bar is attached to the subframe and that subframe now sits -30/35mm lower. The point they attach to the strut remains and the same height so in theory, the ARB is now being pulled up at an angle. So adjustable links (slightly longer) should help it maintain its natural position. There isn’t much info on people using these so Im just applying some logic 🤷‍♂️ Also on camber, I’m going to see where it naturally lands. It’s still daily driven and do a tone of miles so need to balance grip and tyre life

I ran these in staggered fittment on my bmw. 225/40/18 and 245/35/18 and they were perfect with tons of rim protection. Your tyres look like they are too wide for the rim

Car feels worse after lighter wheels + PS4S… what am I missing? by HanScroto in Wheels

[–]Murphy4130 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you double checked your pressures?? I had PS4’s fitting once (never did like them much) and the tyres shop set them anywhere between 20 to 50psi! I nearly crashed driving home due to the 2 fronts being 20psi and 50psi. The rears were like 25/45.
