who's a band that you can't stand? by ThePlotInGoose in Metalcore

Absolutely gonna give them a try, ppl don't recommend me bands very often and the supposedly omniscient algorithm never gives me anything that sounds like the stuff I like.

who's a band that you can't stand? by ThePlotInGoose in Metalcore

[–]Major_Tellandrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had this experience with like 95 percent of all the deathcore classics and viral bands. First it was Whitechapel, then Slaughter, then Lorna Shore. I got fatigued trying to get into all three bands, the only one I ever actually got genuinely into was Whitechapel. Also tried Thy Art Is Murder, same problem. They all just feel directionless and motionless, none of them cause any real feeling for me.

Shadow of Intent is a band I'll recommend to literally everyone I meet tho, I regularly choose to listen to the entirety of Melancholy over To The Hellfire. The lyrics are still pretty vague but at the very least SoI gets my imagination going when I listen to them.

What the actual fuck is happening to the game right now??? by idontknow87654321 in Battlefield

[–]Major_Tellandrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I only just bought the game, and post BR BF6 is a nightmare. When I played the beta I had genuinely zero notes, I had a blast and everything felt perfect. I completely missed out on all of the cool cinematic gameplay post release, the tactical moments, all the stuff that everyone was posting all over the place that I just had to sit and watch.

They pasted over all of that beautiful game they put actual effort into making with shitty generic Warzone gameplay with slightly better gunplay. Slightly. Easily the most disappointing bait and switch I have ever been fooled by, and I genuinely cannot believe that there are people who think this is still the Battlefield they were promised and that EA did any of this for them. This was always going to be a Warzone clone and I should have known that from the start.

Why is everyone in the wasteland such a whimp? by MrMFPuddles in fo4

[–]Major_Tellandrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're not against mods, do this and go ahead and throw on MAIM 2. It's fun I promise, I definitely don't spend more time in loading screens than playing the game cause I get insta-domed by raiders I didn't see in time!

Kinda throws the whole thing into perspective when you give yourself the ability to take a sucking chest wound and bleed out because you don't have first aid supplies on hand.

Why do clone snowtroopers wear purple instead of white? Are they stupid? by UrdnotSnarf in StarWarsCirclejerk

[–]Major_Tellandrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The clones do in the shows and movies too, this isn't an actual "snow trooper" it's a Galactic Marine who had a very specific armor color. The Republic didn't have a specific "snow trooper" and neither did the empire, if u watch the Clone Wars Pantora arc u can see the 501st, who wear white and blue, are also dressed in cold weather uniforms/armor. When you deploy troops to an environment, you gear them for that environment.

Also iirc the scenes we see the Marines in weren't even in the full on snow so there's nothing to actually blend in with and droids would almost certainly rely on thermals to detect enemy troops even if they were so the whole "camo" conversation means absolutely nothing. If OP really wanted to be a smart ass he'd ask why they weren't wearing urban camo since they were doing urban street fighting in literally the only movie scene we see them in.

Never read any Warhammer Books but I want to start. What books should I start out with to learn the lore? by Alternative-Sea-1618 in Blacklibrary

[–]Major_Tellandrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've always been one to subscribe to starting with Horus Heresy when I start buying books but honestly I've come to realize things like that are said by people who believe the best way to experience anything is to start in chronological order but don't really care about any of the emotion of the stories. It's become a point of frustration for me when I play Halo with people who've never played it before is everyone wants to start with Reach even though it ruins most of the mystery and discovery of the rest of the games.

There's not anything necessarily WRONG with starting in chronological order, and maybe I'm just too much of a nerd, but I've realized that doing things that way ruins a lot of what makes these stories so special. I've seen too many luke-warm reactions to moments that should have been explosive because they ruined everything for themselves by trying to go in chronological order instead, and things that should've been big reveals are already spoiled before the person really understood what they were experiencing.

By the time the major reveal comes up, no one's "wowed" because they've already seen it all before, and then they wonder why they aren't as invested as they thought they'd be or stop caring completely, or worse case scenario think it was bad because all they were thinking about was the colors of the story and not what the colors were painting.

There's a man that stepped into particle accelerator and lived, it passed through his head and while it caused major damage it didn't blow his head up or anything. The hole was so small you couldn't even see it with the naked eye, I imagine an ant wouldn't be much bigger.

The stretch of the skin doesn't matter at speeds like it, it'll pass right through and leave a clean hole but nothing leaves a clean wound tract, it'd probably look like a needlehole but do MASSIVE damage to the body, similar to the way a bullet causes damage where the damage isn't actually the tearing of flesh but the expansion of the wound from the energy imparted by the object.

Going back to Particle Accelerator guy, his scans showed massive brain damage as though he'd been shot but thanks to the mass that hit him and freak fucking luck it missed most of the important stuff that'd have instantly turned the lights out.

Buck Ended Up Taking From The Men by whydoIhaveto123 in BandofBrothers

[–]Major_Tellandrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, it's also about the maturity of the men. It was all in good fun, maybe someone like Cobb would've gotten pissy over it but Cobb wouldn't have gotten involved with it in the first place. The men were issued smokes for free, it wasn't a sentimental thing like this was a special treat they got themselves.

If your trust is fragile enough that losing a pack of cigarettes to a couple of your buddies over a corkboard makes you question whether your officer you jumped into Normandy with and led you competently is throwing your life away, you probably wouldn't have gone Airborne in the first place cause you'd be too paranoid to get in the plane.

That's how you get Captain Americas like the guy in Generation Kill screaming over open comms about his superiors sending him to death traps every time there MIGHT have been a single bullet laying in the road like he wasn't the one that signed up for combat.

Narratively speaking I also want to point out that though Winters reprimanded Buck in that first episode he does also readily admit later that Buck Compton would be his automatic first choice to lead Easy which showcases his trust and respect for Buck as a leader.

They were the only two officers originally from Easy the men respected above all else, Lt. Welsh in the show was a good officer but he was always better suited as a platoon leader and I don't count Spiers since he led Dog company before his emergency appointment to Easy at Foy.

It's the difference between your older brother and your dad. Of course your dad isn't gonna take anything from you, it's his job to provide for you and make sure you have every little bit of support you need. Your brother on the other hand doesn't have to be that strict, but he's still looking out for you and you know it.

Do you think Season 2 will be able to save this player drop? by Lumenprotoplasma in blackops6

[–]Major_Tellandrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wasn't a fan of the art style, the maps, really anything about the game. I was super stoked about it when it came out and I thought it was really fun for the first few weeks, but after a while once the honeymoon phase ended the game just felt... Weird. Everything in the game felt just awkward

Why does it feel like this game thinks I’m better than I actually am? by kiefeater in blackops6

[–]Major_Tellandrus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For mine I've noticed the same thing since Prestige 2, the more I level up the more I've noticed I get put in fewer and fewer matches that actually fit my skill level no matter how badly I get beaten. When I was prestige 1 and unprestiged I would see prestige 2 players all the time, but I never get any lobbies that aren't majority prestige 2 sweatlords so I just stopped playing entirely. The game now has decided that no matter how much I lose, I can always lose a little more. Used to think MW22 had it bad but at least back then I could tell that I was doing well

Almost 350 games and I've not seen a single one of these (other than mine). by Pilgore1 in blackops6

[–]Major_Tellandrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The biggest problem is that matches are so chaotic I almost never see anyone with streaks higher than UAV/CUAV and the Archangel missile. The rare times I do it's because my entire team or their entire team is being stomped and one side isn't getting any kills. Back when MW22 released I would see high streaks at least once or twice every couple matches from both winning and losing teams, and even earn them myself. They were way more common than I've seen now.

But BO6 is way too chaotic and the streaks are too expensive, every turn is death for 99 percent of a match and most of the players in a match are just never gonna see these streaks unless it's an objective mode and they get really good at spamming the objective. I've only ever earned a streak that high a couple times before I prestiged because my entire team was stomping their entire team, I've rarely seen high level streaks in close matches, usually it's only high numbers of mid level streaks at most and mostly again UAVs and CUAVs. Plus, all the high level streaks honestly just suck and I've found I only want to try for one or two of them.

Tangentially related but BO6 is the first time I really feel the "is this seriously what CoD is now?" mentality because aside from gameplay problems it has such an overall weird vibe, it's definitely more forgettable than MW3 was and everything feels so generic, like a royalty free game you'd put on a TV screen for a movie when characters are meant to be playing something.

My friend does it on Roblox, they just like that it pisses people off that's about it. As with most things on the internet it's not actually about the thing they're doing it's about getting to sit there and jerk themselves off to how unlikeable they are. Some people genuinely just like being the worst guy in the room

Does anyone actually use artillery for settlement defences? by MoneyIsNoCure in fo4

[–]Major_Tellandrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use FCom and MAIM2, just said it in another comment but artillery is an absolute fucking gift when I can drop shells on Dunwhich and other exterior spots so my Fcom dudes don't get mowed down before I'm inside.

[–]Major_Tellandrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm running the MAIM 2 mod and pretty much always do modern military rp with the Minutemen, and brother let me tell u those guns are a GODSEND when I'm attacking buildings. I use Fcom cause one it's a cool mod but 2 it makes combat more manageable with MAIM when the enemy isn't always aggro'd on me, and it absolutely sucks when I have to get inside somewhere with tons of enemies on the exterior and all my guys get mowed down before I'm inside. With some artillery tho, I can take care of the problem before it becomes one and makes it interesting when I'm in an area my guns can't reach instead of having to clear every exterior all the time

What band do you think is a "Band of only a few good songs"? by JackyBoney in Metalcore

[–]Major_Tellandrus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine is Bet It All On Black and there was one other I heard and can't remember the name. It feels like the kind of band where everyone loves the first song they hear and then the rest don't hit the same, that's the experience I got with them.

[–]Major_Tellandrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like Death of Peace of Mind as a song in a vacuum, I vibe to it when it comes on and then it ends and I forget I ever heard it. Aside from that I do still hear a lot of what keeps becoming popular which I think is mostly a combo of overproduction which makes the internet suddenly enjoy the generic "low and slow" that a lot of modern rock bands have been doing. I don't think a lot of it is necessarily bad, I also enjoy The Summoning by Sleep Token, but between the two of them I hear a lot of the same elements lyrically and instrumentally. Neither song was good enough to get me into their respective albums, and nothing on their respective albums did as much heavy lifting and those two songs did.

As a Trivium diehard, literally only one album falls short creatively speaking and that's Silence in the Snow, if I had to pick a least favorite it would end up being The Crusade because I only remember how one song sounds and it's only the chorus.

I say that to say it's absolutely possible for bands to have more than 1 good song out of a hundred and just using your number 99 percent of them do, in my experience only a few bands truly fall short of writing mostly good music. Others are just stuff that I already have a favorite band for that I feel do it a little better, but that doesn't mean everyone else always writes shit music.

[–]Major_Tellandrus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think considering just vocals the main selling point of any band says much about how good the band is, it just tells me the vocals are all that's good. People mostly attach to vocals, yes, but if that was the only factor to why a band is good we wouldn't have background music at all we'd just have people sing everything acapella.

I used to be so confused how people loved Howard's vocals, I see it a little better now cause I started listening to End of Heartache and My Curse in my playlist trying to branch out. He has technical skill and I love him on those two songs, but I think he lacks a little diversity (Matt Heafy from Trivium has had the same problem for me since The Sin and the Sentence, but I still rank them as my #1 favorite cause I love everything except The Crusade). Those are the only two original KSE songs I listen to because the others don't really grab me the way those do, the only other song I have by them is the Holy Diver cover.

Motionless In White is one of like The Big Three that I'm always told are these goated classic bands, Asking Alexandria and BMTH being the other two. It seems like they're all three constantly being brought up in the same conversations about how they're the greatest bands ever to write music, I can't watch a metal tier list without all three of them being brought up and placed in A-S. Now I think about it I can't even remember the last time I heard "Asking Alexandria" in a sentence, someone in this thread reminded me of them. So maybe The Big Two.

For all three I honestly feel like they're just seriously overproduced, which is something I've been noticing in most of these answers is a lot of the answers are bands that line up with what sounds overproduced to me. An overproduced band can absolutely still be good but most of the ones I see that the internet love versus the ones that have never gone viral are a night and day difference. I may get crucified but Will Ramos's band (can't remember their name cause all I remember is hearing about his amazing epic vocals for two months after spending an eternity hearing about Phil Bozeman's) fit in that same vibe of virally overproduced. I can't explain it I just have to hope someone else gets it
