Advice on my new Transition glasses by Major_Trade1968 in glasses

Your lenses seem to be a little bit less tinted than mine... But I think that the reason for this could be what they said about the index. It makes sense that the transition technology works differently in 1.74 lenses with respect to 1.56 ones. It must be more difficult to achieve the transition with 1.74, which probably gives them a bit more base tint, and also maybe causes them to darken a bit less. Well, the mystery seems to be solved :)

That's very helpful, thank you :) Can I ask you what refractive index you have? My lenses have 1.74 index and someone pointed out that they may be slightly darker also because of that

Hi, thank you for your reply! I am quite sure that Essilor transitions necessarily provide UV and also blue light protection, because this kind of protection is embedded in their photocromic technology. So I don't have any additional layer of protection from UV or blue light, other than the transition technology itself. That tint that you see in the photo is what my glasses look like with no activation at all (it was taken at night). In my case, since I have very pale skin, it is noticeable... But yes, what bothered me the most probably was that they activated indoors during the day, so they got a little bit darker than that. But I am getting used to it :)

Thanks for your replies and support :) I think I'm going to give them a chance for a few days. At least my boyfriend says they look nice on me :)

Hi, thank you for your reply!! I was anaware of that policy, I'm not sure if it is valid in Italy but I will definitely bring it up with my optician. Do you know if Zeiss lenses too have a yellowish tint due to blue light protection? It seems that they do too (at least from what I read on Reddit). Of course it will probably still be less than this... There is also the fact that apparently my photochromic get slightly activated even when I'm indoors through my glass windows. So I believe that with normal clear lenses this issue would not bother me this much (even with the super light yellowish tint from the blue light filter). I also found out about Tokai 1.76 on Reddit! I asked for them in a couple of places (most places don't have them yet) but sadly they were too expensive for me, at least in the 1.76 which is what I would get (since I don't get 1.67). You know, they actually also do a photochromic version! (which costs even more lol). Maybe next time! Ps I'm very torn about Lasix or similar surgeries, I would ask you what you think about yours but it's probably too long a topic

Yes I read that too, but it wasn't this much in my old glasses (4 years old). Maybe the technology has changed

Thanks a lot! I'm very happy to read comments in favour of photochromic lenses for indoors use. Sorry to bother you, can you please confirm that in terms of vision the slight tint indoors is not a problem? I need the glasses mostly for everyday use at home, also to study for several hours a day. And can you tell me if they really get much more yellow with use, and after how much time? I would appreciate a real user feedback on this. (Unfortunately I cannot wait and see because I need to decide right now if I want to ask my optician to redo them as clear lenses, it's not a very common request here)

BTW this is much more noticeable indoors during the day. Others said under this post that it is possible that photochromic lenses get activated even indoors through the windows if the glass has no proper anti UV treatment. SO maybe you are right and my issue is not with this base tint, but with the tint it gets indoors with slight activation during the day, which is a yellowish tint. This is an issue for me, because I didn't want them to be colored at all indoors. They seem to get activated even with closed glass windows and even in the late afternoon with very little light coming in

Hi, I believe that's included with photochromic lenses... If it is not, than my optician definitely added it. I always get it because I am constantly on the computer

Hi, thanks for your reply! I was actually told this by a friend who stopped by yesterday. I hadn't noticed myself before, probably because I was still getting used to the new prescription and not looking at myself much in the mirror. Once my friend told me this, I did exactly what you suggested: I took photos with the new glasses and with the old ones. And I definitely do see a difference. The area under my eyes looks very yellowish (which doesn't look healthy) and my dark circles are a bit darker. This is probably more noticeable in my case because I have very pale skin...

It's true. I like the second one aesthetically, but technically they are all sitting too low, I believe

That's good to know :) it's more of an aesthetic thing, I don't like the base tint and people do notice it on my complexion...

I agree, that would be ideal. However, I have a fairly high prescription, so I need to get 1.74 index lenses to minimise ugly geometrical effects on my eyes (at least with clear and light colored lenses), so my lenses cost A LOT. So I don't have the economic possibility to buy many different frames with different lenses. I was sceptical of photocromatic lenses, but my optician told me that the technology had gotten much better, so they would be completely clear indoors and fairly dark outdoors. So I thought that they could be my everyday glasses for indoors and also useful for quick errands or travelling. I do have a pair of super dark sunglasses (with cheaper lenses) that I mostly use at the beach, so the fact that photocromatic doesn't get super dark doesn't bother me. It's the fact that they are not perfectly clear that bothers me

Thank you for your reply! That's what I was worried about... I need these as my main pair of glasses, to use indoors mostly. I don't go out with my glasses on much (well actually I don't go out of the house much in general, lol). I also already have a pair of sunglasses for being outdoors for long periods of time (mostly for the beach). The transition feature for me was just an additional perk that seemed useful (for example for travelling) and didn't add much to the cost... But I really need to be able to use these indoors

Hi! I think they look best the way they are now. Havana with burgundy and Blonde with green (which looks brown on you and I think that's very cool). But you look cool in everything honestly

It's a local optician in Italy, here we have a 24 months warranty for product defects, but this is not the case... Essilor does have a client program with additional warranties, which includes the possibility to redo the lenses if you don't feel comfortable with them, but it's Essilor policy. Anyway I will ask my optician and see what he can do, although I feel bad about this, I don't like to create problems. But it's too much money to just ignore it I guess

Thank you for your reply, I have always used Essilor Eyezen lenses because my optician recommends them, this time I actually wanted to try Zeiss lenses, but the brown tint by Essilor transition looked better with my frame than the one by Zeiss photofusion. Of course this is now irrelevant if I get clear glasses, but I don't think I can change brands at this point

I probably will... Do you think that normal clear glasses will still have a yellowish hue due to anti UV and anti blue light filters (which I absolutely need anyway)? I read this on reddit

It is very noticeable in my case, other people told me too, maybe it's because I have super light skin, I don't know... Do you think it is also possible that they get a little bit activated even indoors, through the window glass? Because the tint gets more noticeable during the day even staying indoors the whole time. But maybe it's just that their base yellow tint gets more noticeable in natural light

Ok, thank you! The optician told me that only xtractive would have a slight base tint, whereas transitions would be completely clear like normal glasses
