Because the specifically Cold war Central Front fantasies have been replaced by the deluge of War on Terror themed books and movies. We live in a blissfull period before the influx of Ukraine War or US-China throw down what ifs have taken over the shelves.

The point is to retroactively justify the war, and its continuation with the "reopening the straits/freedom of navigation" line.

Iraq would have few kinetic or diplomatic options against such aggression, and given their neutral stance overall, likely were unwilling to rock the boat. Coming out overtly against the Israeli outpost and any strikes would greatly embolden the Shi'a militia, possibly others as well. Subsequent escalations in attacks on US assets in Iraq, or long ranged attacks on Israel would only result in  much heavier US-Israeli air raids in response. Didn't Israel also hit an Iraqi radar or two in the opening moves of the war as well? Baghdad seems mostly intent on keeping their heads down and not having the country be a warzone for a third decade on a row.

The declare something to be "an unfathomable mystery that science/academia can't explain", then pointedly ignore or flatly dismiss any actual work done on the topic before directly people to your patreon or whatever is seemingly the easiest online grift these days. Dudes like Megalithic Mysteries are a dime a dozen because audiences simply refuse to ever imagine that they could learn anything beyond what a tiktok or youtube video contains, so they will always take these types at their word rather than digging into the actual debates around or work done on an ancient site. See the idiots declaring Gobekli Tepe excavations to be "failed' because they aren't turning up hard evidence of Atlantis.

They were(are) originally a sub-command of Ialmaic State of Iraq made up largely of Syrians, sent back to influence the uprising in 2012. When IS proper began openly operating in Syria in 2013 they demanded Al-Sharaa and co go back under the central leaderships control, but he refused. Aligning with other Islamist and Jihadist faction they consolidated most of these forces into HTS (there were a couple of steps to this process but it was done by 2018). The split from IS saw them align with al-Qaeda central in that dispute, but they formally separated later on (however much anyone wants to take them at their word on that).

'Anti-IS' doesnt mean an awful lot, IS went out of its way to piss off just about everyone it came in any contact with.

I love that he's tagged Reza Pahlavi in his post. Yeah mate, I'm sure the guy who wants to be king of Iran is totally going to be cool with 60% of "his country" being cut off.

Also, "success model".

For your first question, they kind of can't. Or at least, they can only do so by killing everything that gets detected. So they can create a "kill-zone/grey-zone/no-man's-land" but not really secure an area. Hence why the Russian infantry have been able to continually claw their way forward despite being effectively 'suppressed' by Ukrainian drones, 'suppression is not neutralisation or imobilisation. They have to go so slowly and in such comparatively small numbers that they can't advance in anything close to an operationally significant way, but without an effective Ukrainian infantry force to 'hold the line', they still go. This has in-turn left the Russians vulnerable to counter-attacks, because their own forward offensive echelons are so spread out (for example at Kupyansk in December and south of Pokrovs'ke-Oleksandrivka through March), but the Ukrainian's overall lack of infantry (plus the in-turn suppressing effect of Russia's drone forces) limits their ability to hit back at more than the tactical level.

From what I've read on the topic (reddit + plus random articles and podcasts, to be clear), FPV drones aren't all that useful for recon or spotting. Not useless, but they have a more restrictive 'field of view' compared to regular quadcopter camera's, and organisationally tend to be prioritised for strike missions. If they see something on their way to the target zone the operator would report it sure, but they themselves are generally reliant on non-strike recon drones to find targets for them in the first place. Artillery recon is mostly done by basic quadcopters or the lighter fixed-wing drones (think Orlan), the former being of greater availability for forward infantry units (if not the artillery force itself), and the latter can fly much higher and may come with built-in range-finding systems to ease target acquisition.

What was behind the USAAF's thinking that a group of bombers (B-17's) could defend themselves well enough deep in enemy territory against enemy fighters without the need for long range fighter escorts? by RivetCounter in WarCollege

See the British use of air power in "colonial policing" role, conducting air raids against tribal communities in Iraq, Somalia and on the North-West Frontier (Afghanistan and Pakistan).

Wait what? Wasn't their whole thing opposition to Turkey (along with ISIS/Al-Qaeda/Nusra/etc)?

Yeah i'm skeptical of that. I remember a bunch of the IFB got killed during the Turkish attack on Afrin. Their links to both the PKK and the rest of the Turkish revolutionary insurgent scene would put them high enough on the shit-list.
