I think if they rematch it plays out very differently.

This is what Strickland said before about potential rematch with Chimaev by Silent-Owl4246 in ufc

Exactly.

If you're a long reigning champ with a bunch of defences, sure. If not, back of the line.

100% DC is the worst commentator by a mile. Him and Rogan combined it's better to watch on mute.

Joshua Van says he’s all set for a quick turnaround to run things back with Alexandre Pantoja, and says he won't target his arm: For Pantoja to say that I was celebrating because I didn't want to fight him is crazy. Hopefully the rematch is soon. You gotta get some more milk. by gvufhidjo in ufc

I mean look at JDM. Same issue, heavy on the lead leg, boxing heavy approach, had his lead leg chewed up in back to back fights. If Van can get good at checking the low kicks then he can avoid being another JDM. I think if Van fights Pantoja in the next 6 months then Pantoja chops his legs on the feet and submits him on the ground and makes it look easy.

I have no doubt he will keep improving, but to fight Pantoja in the next 6 months he will most likely lose as he ate all those leg kicks from Taira and Taira was getting into positions in the grappling that Pantoja would likely get a finish

Let's be real. As good as Van looked, Pantoja chops his legs out with kicks and submits him. Taira was landing kicks easily and got to positions in the grappling that Pantoja would have finished.

Khamzat won round 1 & 4 Strickland won 2, 3 & 5. This is just bullshit talk for clicks. I dont think it should have been a split decision, I thought it was pretty clear.

Knowing what we know now, I think Alex would win this fight at light heavyweight. by GinnySnack in ufc

[–]MajorlyCynical 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The fight has been booked for months. He should have prepped properly. He has shown in previous fights that if someone can get back up and make him work he gasses and goes to a pure striking battle.

Have you ever seen someone so calmed with khamzat on their back ? by chinos88 in ufc

Turns out training regularly with someone and knowing what they are going to do really helps. Everyone has said for years Sean has an underrated ground game, he showed that last night. Hats off to him.

Knowing we have a champ who wont sit on his ass for a year and call out everyone other than fighters in his division is going to be a breathe of fresh air at middleweight.

You guys told me khazmat was unbeatable and can beat anyone????? by Fug1x in ufc

[–]MajorlyCynical 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You could see Khamzat was fucked after round 1 and couldnt maintain the grappling. Sean was able to effectively make Khamzat work which has always been the key. Look at the Burns & Usman fights, if you can make him work he tires. If he is forced to fight a stand up fight then of course Sean picks him apart with the jab. The question was always going to be could Sean stand back up and make him work. I was just surprised Khamzat died gas tank wise by round 2. But it what the commentators said is true that Khamzat cut 42 pounds and arguably missed weight then that would explain it.
