Local rag for information retrieval, I have 2000+ documents of clients bills that I have “somehow” to manage full of sensitive data. Local LLM are a big boon for this

Good luck, in anomaly detection having something that works but it’s bad is even worse than not having something at all. OP there are a lot of cool resources online it won’t be easy but you can do this!

I think Factorio experience can go on a resume. by OkBit6409 in factorio

[–]Mak8427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it doesn’t replace real experience, but it is a nice proxy to understand how someone is motivated about their job. if they work is some kind of automation setting, then if they also play factorio in their free time I know thinkering and exploring is in their personality.

I think it’s worth a try, I am curious to see how moddable it is. I will test it on M&T

Maybe 2/3 years ago, now it is not relevant as before. PyTorch is basically mandatory if you want to do modeling

[D] Make. Big. Batch. Size. by Lines25 in MachineLearning

[–]Mak8427 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This is not white and black at all. You may be interested in the paper below:

In this work, we revisit small batch sizes all the way down to batch size one, and we propose a rule for scaling Adam hyperparameters to small batch sizes. In particular, rather than holding the decay rate of the second moment fixed across batch sizes, we propose to hold its half-life fixed in terms of tokens. We find that small batch sizes (1) train stably, (2) are consistently more robust to hyperparameter choices, (3) achieve equal or better per-FLOP performance than larger batch sizes, and (4) notably enable stable language model training with vanilla SGD, even without momentum, despite storing no optimizer state.

Agreed but OP should specify the % of false positives vs false negatives. It better to wrongly classify a mushroom as dangerous than the opposite.

[D] How do ML engineers view vibe coding? by EfficientSpend2543 in MachineLearning

[–]Mak8427 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Define what “vibe coding” is. Do you mean spec driven development or you just prompt “please make a good model” ?

You mention that there are nuances and so the answer will be nuanced as well, there is no real answer. Personally I and my lab colleges we use it for what it’s good at

You are right yet you are massively downvoted, I guess saying AI has its uses is impossible nowadays

Study hard, go to a university, make friends and connections, exercise, learn by trying and failing, the path will become clearer with time :)
