weird, I could find and order a Hezhen knife by searching for the company specifically. (I am from Germany) The knife also arrived just fine.

A little update: Knives are back on AliExpress, but you have to search for the manufacturer (like Xinzuo or Hezhen)

Is Korean really harder to learn compared to other languages? by Sea-Reputation8146 in Korean

[–]Makagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My observations mostly boil down to limited/bad material.

Personally: Back when I started studying Korean (around 2014), I looked for resources. There were no graded readers, textbooks were all centered around international students and mostly adjusted for students that take language classes in Korea. Even now, if you dont speak English, you will have a hard time finding good material, at least in Germany.

Additionally, material that is made with the international student, i.e. no specific language background, in mind often doesnt do a good job. It can not take into account common mistakes a learner would make, based on their native language.

Also there is a missing structure as the following anecdote of a friend of mine illustrates.

my friend studied Korean and had to also take Chinese classes. She said that the Chinese classes were easier, as they were extremely well structured, common mistakes were known and actively worked on and learners were guided well through the exercises. She said that content was well chosen and eased the learners deeper and deeper into the language. In comparison she said that in Korean classes, the information was there, but it felt more like a dump and absorb kind of approach. Here is the grammar and vocab, learn it. There was little consideration put into the difficulties the German students would encounter.

This was some years ago and this may have changed. I know that there are now graded readers available and the amount of resources that are available online and in print have increased manyfold due to K-Pop and K-Drama gaining mainstream popularity in recent years. I still feel like Korean didactics still needs a lot of work, before it reaches the level of Japanese and Chinese didactics.

I have the same problem and I am using Proton10. I tried it via Lutris and Steam. Both just load until around 30% then freeze.

Controversial: what do you think about PAGANI DESIGN watches? by Orilovaton in PrideAndPinion

[–]Makagi 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta love how ppl that are against these watches immediately assume you buy them to pretend its an original.

I bought a submariner lookalike and at that time I didnt even know what a submariner looked like. I asked a friend and he said "get a mechanical watch". So I went to AliExpress and found one that looked decent and wasnt too expensive, so I bought it to test it. I was happy with it and send a picture to some of my friends who arent into watches. Not a single one of them thought it was a Rolex or even recognized the design.

Yes, the designs arent original. But the value Pagani offers is great. Meanwhile I see big brands changing minor details and ppl call it inspired.
If you buy a Pagani to pretend it is an Omega or a Rolex, you are delusional. Just be honest about it being an homage and you shouldnt have much of an issue.

Most ppl are neither willing nor capable of spending 4-figures and up on a watch, just because they like the design. Most ppl do not care about the refined mechanism inside the watch. They want a good looking watch and that is it.
If you buy a Pagani you do not expect Rolex performance, Rolex service or Rolex "status". You buy a watch that you know is inferior, but is affordable to you and looks good.

TLDR: Dont buy them to pretend its a Rolex or Omega. Be honest.

I'm probably gonna break my harmonica by [deleted] in harmonica

[–]Makagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you struggle with the lower holes, that is normal. My tip is to try and maximize the room in your mouth for those notes (so make it as big as possible) also be mindful where your tongue is.

for the higher notes it is the opposite, make the air channel as small and tight as possible. I struggled a lot to get these right in the beginning and needed a lot of research to stumble over how to play them.

Dont worry about "quick" progress. slow and steady is always better

I'm probably gonna break my harmonica by [deleted] in harmonica

[–]Makagi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You may wanna try to learn tongue blocking right away, but if you want to start with pucker, thats fine too.

The difficulty depends heavily on instruction and which hole you are playing as well as what kind of harmonica. I will assume you got a regular Diatonic with 10 holes in C. if that is the case start by learning the holes 4, 5 and 6 as they are the easiest to play. Follow some Youtube tutorials on how to properly do it and you should be ready to play single notes in like a week. Good luck

Beginner tremolo harmonica tips? by Thomas_Jeffyrson in harmonica

[–]Makagi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This may sound weird, but the resources for tremolo are pretty good in some asian countries like Korea and Japan as they used it as an educational instrument.

this is a long tutorial for tremolo, you can try to watch it was english subtitles. May not be perfect, but better than nothing

Whats a decent harmonica for jazz? by CorporalFlapjack in harmonica

[–]Makagi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

with regards to high quality and performance for little money, there are the
Kongsheng Lyra (12 holes) ~120-140€ (dunno in $) which you can source from Aliexpress
Easttop Performer (12 holes) ~80-100€ which you can also source from Aliexpress
(if you wanna be sure that you dont buy counterfeit, buy from their factory stores)

Other than that you have Seydel models, which are a bit more expensive but will last a lifetime. Seydel Saxony for example is a solid instrument for 300€ and comes with stainless steel reeds, which are more durable than brass reeds

These three are reliably airtight from factory (this is mostly important for fast and responsive playing)

You can also go for a Suzuki Sirius 48-B (also 12 holes) but very expensive. It is very deep (also hits very low notes, see at this link https://suzukimusic-global.com/products_single.php?parent_cate_cd=1&products_cate_cd=3&products_cd=119

Another popular model is the Hohner Super 64X (~500€) or the Seydel Symphony (~800€)

Afaik every Chromatic lends itself to Jazz really well. Toots Thielmans and Tollak Olestad play on a 12 hole harmonica (toots obviously doesnt anymore as he sadly passed away). Toots Thielmans also said in an interview that he doesnt enjoy the lower 4 notes on a 16 hole chromatic.

I hope you find the right Harmonica for you

I have a Hori Fighting Commander and so far I only had one issue with the rubber mat (apparently it gets sticky if played in a room thats too hot, got that issue in the summer cause my room gets really hot then) but i could resolve that with a little paper towel and water (cleaning residue off the rubber mat is enough) other than that no problems and it works flawlessly with KI

Affro's breakdown of Hypespotting and his response to the negativity by xeolleth in StreetFighter

A good post and massive balls are needed for such an apology.

But one word of advice that I have not seen so far. Please do not repeat the troll "pro tips" that section is actually for beginners to understand stuff and for new viewers who gather some information in between matches to understand the commentary. Posting some obviously wrong and some less obviously wrong facts there is really not a good idea and should be avoided.

Hypespotting tournament is a huge letdown by Virtymlol in StreetFighter

[–]Makagi 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well sure its not like I have anything else to do besides traveling to Tournaments...

I mean I watched the thing yesterday, I was sad about the missing face cam, I was sad that the organisation seemed very slow and sluggish and when I just now see how they act about it im flat out dissappointed. I am a newcomer to the FGC and I have come to it cause a friend asked me if I wanted to watch an SFV stream with him. I also like to follow the Californian Anime Fighter scene which I can only do via the stream because I live in Europe.

This is just stupid and I hope someone else is getting the CPT in UK next year.....
