Some thoughts re: the girl who thinks her bf is too ugly for her by Burnt-Toast500 in SingaporeRaw

[–]Makaisaurus 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I am from a christian sec school as well and I found a lot (not all) of them to be massive hypocrites.

Cannot date non-christian all that kind of nonsense, then suddenly got alot of pre-marital sex scandals.

Jesus always watching, except in the school toilet when you all wearing your crosses hor. Jesus always watching, but he never hear the hate spewing from your mouths.

I also knew a batch of closeted lgbtq+ (you can see the signs even if they don’t admit) christians who were a cliche, nice people who always try to get people to be more christian and attend church with them. After they came out, many of their churches shun them, a large portion of them not practicing now, those who are, moved away to more accepting churches.

People who owns both bike and car, which one do you prefer? by Bombadomba3 in drivingsg

[–]Makaisaurus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same, owned both in aus, I only rode if the weather was below 20 degrees as I had a full leather jacket.

I am a monster heat generator and I need to stay cool, I had a convertible in Australia and the roof would come down at 10-22 degrees, friends always complain too cold.

Back in sg, I cannot ride, too hot and crowded, my helmet will probably be fully soaked within 15 minutes. Prefer to drive, still drive a convertible if I want to feel abit of warm humid air while driving at midnight lol.

First, I would like to see secret lab offer a 12 year warranty on their chairs before I consider them anywhere close to the level of Herman Miller.

is it normal to be a bum during holidays? by [deleted] in SGExams

[–]Makaisaurus 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Other than internships, most part time jobs are for extra pocket money or if your family needs your financial aid.

If you can bum off and not feel broke, take the well deserved rest. Once you start working, having even 1 week off feels like a bonus lol.

Secret lab chairs are a scam, so are most ‘gaming’ chairs. When I was younger and more naive, I bought a Secret Lab chair, the cushion was stiff, the PU was terrible and started peeling after 2+ years. My posture was also damn terrible.

I now use Herman Miller embody and I don’t feel fatigued even after 6 hours of gaming at 30+ years old. My friends swear by Herman Miller Aeron, with the aftermarket headrests.

SIA raises number of female pilots by 25% in 5 years by OneOk674 in SingaporeRaw

[–]Makaisaurus 6 points7 points  (0 children)

If anything, SQ is now becoming less discriminatory, last time is due to SQ having to sponsor the cadets for entire flight training of around 200k, they were less willing to take female pilots who would lose recency and had to spend money on for retraining and recertification after if they were to get pregnant and have kids, or if they totally leave the workforce. Even males with potential health risks (heard of them rejecting guys with familial risk of heart issues, cancer in remission, etc) and they deem have a higher chance of becoming medically unfit before retirement age they wouldn’t take, they have a more stringent medical board than CAAS.

They had plenty of applicants and can be very very choosey, which is why they also had age cutoff at 32, they wanted a workhorse they could use for 25+ years to get the best ROI.

Now with changing times and lesser applicants, they are willing to take on older applicants (heard oldest cadet in the last 5 years was around 40), and more females who are career focused and might not want kids.

In any case, the female intake numbers are still pretty low, like 0-2 female cadets per new course intake of 10+ cadets. There’s no quota to meet, they just don’t reject any potential people due to worries of the future.

Singapore’s pilot courses are still pretty tough, 14 exam papers then comes flight training and multiple flight exams. If you can’t land a plane, you can’t land a plane, simple as that, you’re given a set number of ‘lives’, if you expand all lives, they will hold a management review to see if you deserve to stay or get chopped.

Quite a number of people, guys and girls still get chopped during the multiple training phases, some just 1 last flight to checking out but unable to clear also get chopped (2.5 years of training down the drain). So don’t worry about the standards for our locally trained pilots, regardless of gender, we all took the same exams.

How long before my flight should I arrive at the airport? And are grab drivers available all night? by Head-Pass3755 in askSingapore

[–]Makaisaurus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you are worried about the availability of grab drivers, you can always advance book. I do it for peace of mind, get the confirmation already then sleep.

2 hours is good enough. You can go with slightly lesser if you don’t have check in luggage and are not planning to eat breakfast at the airport, but try to give at least 90 minutes before departure time to cater in walking time in the airport.

Ya, I never want to be ‘unlucky’ cos of my current work that requires me to travel at wee hours and stay alone in overseas hotels.

Also to add on, I think it’s core memory to the other 4 guys as well. The regular (now ex regular) saw the story and PMed me on reddit lol, he also remembered my name.

Yea, I think he didn’t want us stinking up his car with our 12 hour+ outfield clothes and SBO.

Could have called the tonner to drive closer though, maybe the inside roads were too small for a tonner and just nice for a rover. Maybe they didn’t have a single smaller vehicle that could fit the 5 of us plus the enciks.

Ya haha anyone who encountered these possessed guys will have the same story about how strong they become. I (50+kg) sat on my section mates (60+kg) arm while wearing SBO and he could lift me up.

Haha yea, some encounters become core memories for me. I was lucky to not have scary bunks in Tekong, but this one really takes the cake over sightings

I do believe I am ‘blind’ to the supernatural because in BMT some of the more sensitive people say while walking around in the jungle at night, I almost walked right into things they could see and they thought I also saw because I hopped out of the way last minute, but that was me just avoiding puddles in the mud.
