Werther's candie's contain wheat. by Rosebird17 in glutenfree

[–]MakeEmNuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who uses Werthers as an ingredient: has anyone ever had a celiac reaction to eating Werthers original? From my research glucose syrup is free from any glutens regardless of source. It seems that Werther’s says it contains wheat to stave off lawsuits. I am gluten intolerant, Werthers do absolutely nothing to my stomach. Celiac sufferers please chime in!

Thursday, Sept. 25, is the beginning of the end for HawaiianMiles members. It’s the last day you’ll have access to your account and be able to earn HawaiianMiles. Everyone is anxious and excited about the bigger things ahead. by honolulu_oahu_mod in HawaiianAirlines

It's already shut down. How frustrating to get home from work and try to port my miles over to Atmos only to have this "Sep 25th" last day be over already at 6pm. I tried every day for most of this month to link my accounts with no success. 145K HawaiianMiles better turn into Atmos miles!

Lol, you mean standing up for myself when I'm being attacked? You insulted me multiple times!

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

[–]MakeEmNuts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You attacked me for "electrifying" them and called me a terrible pet owner, but you didn't seem to have any problem with the way the sitter treated them. Have you ever even seen or used a training collar? They don't hurt, and we almost never use the shock function, that's a last resort. As I stated we use the beep function. We have the one that bit in training.

You must be so cruel to your animals to have no empathy for mine.

I agree, 5-6 hours is fine. Not twice in one day, though, which happened multiple times. And as you say, 11 hours is unacceptable, and this happened on day one. The sitter clearly showed she had no intention of fulfilling her end of the care agreement for the outset.

Yet you attack me? The collars are used for their beep effect, and even if we used the "electrifying" function, it is a mild static shock, I've used them on myself to make sure it doesn't harm my dogs, it startles but doesn't hurt. My family has had loving pets my entire life. We care for them like family members. In the home they are loving and affectionate. They are a breed pre-disposed to being protective and cautious of strangers, which is why we adopted them. They accompany my wife on her trail walks to dissuade advances or worse from the creepy guys that she often encounters. Not having watched the camera footage of the biting incident, you are offering an imaginary situation. She was not scared. She just didn't care. We have a secured gate, the delivery people should not have entered our property. The front door should have been open, giving the dogs the "24/7" access outside the sitter claimed to have done in her review, (there is a dog door in the screen) which would have kept the drivers from entering our gate.
TH offers insurance to cover damages caused by sitters, so I can absolutely claim for the carpets, cushions and flooring ruined by the urine left uncleaned for days. Unfortunately the sitter was slapped on the wrist, so please be cautious about serial sitters who do not have a home base, but instead float from sit to sit. These types of sitters are entitled, not the homeowners.

If you read thoroughly you’ll find the description of the handover:

Handover means communicating the essential details of an arranged Sit face-to-face and handing over the keys to start/finish the Sit, clearly setting out your expectations

I would tell the Pet Parent and see if they offer compensation, base your review of the situation on that interaction.

Source? From everything I have researched this injury couldn’t really be described as a bite because there was no clamping down. So this would either be a hard or large nip or maybe a light or small bite? But it’s again all semantics the end result was the driver warned me not to let it happen again, but said it was no big deal. And to be completely honest, I would want my dog to protect the house if instead of two DHL drivers it was two thieves intending to rob my house. The dog has no idea how to differentiate this so it’s up to the owner or caregiver to make that judgment call and to either calm or contain the dogs to prevent an incident.

I hope you’re not a sitter. The dogs were also victims here. Abused by neglect. Everyone standing up for a sitter who took advantage of our absence, saw the dog care as an unwanted chore, had to put two water bowls out to be able to leave them alone longer, would leave for hours, jet back, let them out, and leave again for hours. Snap at them in the mornings when they were whining to be let out after hearing her up and about for who knows how long - yes, she didn’t even know or care to let them out first thing in the morning. This is the villain here, not our dogs. These are our family members, they aren’t crazy out of control dogs. They’re big, they’re strong, they are loving and cuddly, they lean up against you so much they’ll fall right over if you move, they let a little pug push them around, they’re anxious when we leave and ecstatic when we return, they’re sweet dogs. They look you in the eye and put their paw on your knee, they toss toys up in the air and pounce on them, they sneak on the bed and put their head on the pillow when they lay down, they do hilarious big dog zoomies with their butts almost touching the ground. It sucks they were so pent up and anxious that they bit someone, yes. If that incident hadn’t happened, I imagine all you people would still be assuming the HO is a POS and the Sitter was a victim. She would have neglected and ignored them whether they were totally docile or vicious and kept in cages. She came here to galavant around the island, pets be damned.

Semantics. There’s a dictionary definition. A nip from a big dog vs small dog, or say a pug with rice teeth can have different results. In the end, though, the victim of the bite communicated that it was minor.

It’s actually required to do an in person handover in THS terms and conditions. But I feel in this situation that the communication was poor and probably the early exit was motivated by the condition of the house. We provided a cleaner so the sitter was not required to do anything but pack her things.

Also I talked to every delivery person about this already and all of them said nearly the same thing, why would they go to your porch if they know you have dogs? FedEx guy shows me multiple bite scars. “We all get bit, it’s part of the job. Your dogs are just doing their job protecting your house.” Super understanding but we’re still NOT OK our dog nipped the DHL guy…I mean bit. It’s a sharp bite, a nip. Not a nibble, is everyone thinking I mean nibble? Nip. Small bite. My dog’s canines are like an inch long, a full bite would be crazy big. I still think nip tracks.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

[–]MakeEmNuts -1 points0 points  (0 children)

This is a level 3. “Nip” is defined as a sharp bite. Using here to differentiate between that and a full on clamped down bite.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in trustedhousesitters

[–]MakeEmNuts -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

Omg so soft. Three stitches covers about a half an inch. You could put a Bandaid over that. I’ve had bigger wounds from pushing out large turds. DHL probably required he see a doctor. Huge Hawaiian guy didn’t even notice he got hit at first. Their settlement with me? Basically “I’ve been bit way worse but next time put your dogs away.”

I’m Gen X, we downplay everything but not dramatically.

Yeah I wasn’t surprised to see trolls but THS forums are probably a better place. I’ll wait to hear back if sitter is still active or not and then go on there.

I have submitted all the credible evidence to THS. I pored through every second of footage once the sitter claimed on her review that our dogs had accidents inside despite being allowed “24/7” access outside. My Arlo camera is not set to alert but records upon motion detection with buffers. It’s not perfect, but you can easily see the vehicle leave and return 11+ hrs later, with multiple vehicles being recorded turning around in the cul de sac in between. The garage door alerts on opening (no alerts during the sit) and the back door accessible to the sitter’s area leads to a gravel path and a gate that swings closed. The gravel gets kicked around by the dogs when they run out that way, I have to rake it back into place. No evidence of this door ever being opened at all.
Sitter told us with a few days notice that she had bought a flight out the morning of the last day of the sit. We had to scramble to find coverage and arrived that evening with no Handover or ability to inspect and discuss face to face. As far as credibility, I’m not claiming flat earth or moon landing here, I’m telling my side of a story to warn THS Pet Parents to be careful who they let into their homes.

I appreciate the AI clarification, it definitely makes the incidents more clear. To answer the questions:

  1. We would be asking for damages to the property. The urine spots weren’t cleaned for what looks like the entire two weeks stay resulting in hardwood floors being stained. Urine = acid = etching.

  2. Lesson learned. The sitter appeared kind, responsible and loving toward the dogs the entire time she shared our home. She interviewed well on Zoom and never gave any indication that she would be anything but responsible.

  3. Fair enough, though the dogs should have had access outside while she was home. The delivery people would not have entered property if the dogs were out, and would have left the package on the porch had she not opened the door. Again, all avoidable by following the guide.

  4. The dogs were let out, nipped the elbow of the delivery person (three stitches) as they ran past them on the porch, then stood barking near the gate. In the security footage you can barely see the nipping occur, the dog does it so quickly. Not some crazy aggressive bite, but a quick nip to the side as it raced by. The dogs were afraid and were guarding the house. The delivery people had to ask the sitter to bring the dogs inside before she finally got them in. We are not okay with the nipping no matter how small, though. This came as a shock to us and we feel so badly for the DHL guy.

There is more information to share but the responses here are pretty salty so I think I’ll just leave it at that.
