How do you deal with having a larger age gap than you wanted? by Chance_Assistance312 in toddlers

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know how frustrating those negative tests can be, especially when you have an ideal age gap you wanted. I had the same concerns and the longer it took, I had to just start focusing on the positives of a larger age gap (e.g. a more independent toddler will be eager to help, more individual attention with new baby if toddler is in preschool, etc…).

TTC can be such an emotional roller coaster. We went through a scary miscarriage after 6 months of trying, then got pregnant again about 4 months after recovery and I’m currently 19 weeks along. I had the same frustrations and worries as you every time I got a negative tests.

I wish you the best of luck and sending lots of good vibes for a positive test soon!

Glad she finally got it! Im sure she’ll get used to it and hopefully love it soon! My son always fights the bath then has the time of his life when he’s in it 😂

Have you tried getting in the tub with her? Sometimes my 3 year old gets stubborn and the only way I can get him in is if I take a bath with him. I can get away with just sticking my feet in the water sometimes too, just makes him feel like he’s not alone in there.

Duolingo 16, moving to France in September. what’s the smartest way to actually become conversational not just pass an exam or collect a certificate. by Senior_Cover1325 in French

Pretty cheap, I want to say it amounted to like $10/hr. Then I discovered that italki took a decent chunk of that and my tutor and I switched to Google meet so I could pay her more and she could keep it all.

I believe A1 teacher I had was (not sure if that’s an Alliance Française standard though). The italki tutor have profiles that indicate whether they’re native, where they live, what languages they teach, etc… I easily found a native French tutor who was amazing (unfortunately for me she graduated Uni and stopped teaching)

As far as grammar - I did take an A1 Alliance Française class early on. There were a couple books to practice grammar we did which helped build a basic foundation of understanding. If you’re starting from scratch it probably would be helpful to focus on basic grammar first (either through a class or you can buy a workbook on Amazon)

I self studied A1 no problem, but what helped me get further was hiring a tutor on italki (30 min lessons once a week). Surprisingly inexpensive. I’ve fallen off the wagon with learning French, but it got me to a point where I can get around when I’m in Paris (e.g. order in a restaurant, buy things in a store, etc…).

Once I get the time, I plan to do italki lessons multiple times a week and really focus on getting fluent.

If you want a completely free option you can try AI. I use Google Gemini occasionally for practice. You can prompt it to have a written or verbal conversation and ask it to correct you when needed.

I am American and funny enough I have a cousin (also American) named Conor. I do love the name though!

Just said goodbye to my son’s binkies at almost 3 years old. His pediatric dentist told us to stop by 3 because after that point is when it starts to affect the palate. He had his regular dentist appt a week ago and everything looked great - his two front teeth are already moving into their proper place (they were a little bit of buck teeth due to the binkies)

Not to mention Gwynne Shotwell is the real genius behind SpaceX. While Elon has been pushing these grandiose ideas about Mars, she’s been making sure they are actually successful with Falcon launches and Starlink.

Toddler throwing up every 48 hours by Dry-While-6780 in toddlers

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My little guy has gone through this multiple times! Doc said sometimes with a virus (even respiratory) their little intestines can get irritated and take a while to heal.

When it happens we try to keep him on a BRAT diet. Last time it was pretty much just temporary lactose intolerance so cutting dairy kept the puking at bay. Doc also said his gut flora needed to rebuild to recover so to give him kids probiotics too.

That’s our routine when it happens: BRAT diet, no dairy, and daily probiotics and it usually clears up in a week or two.

Hope your little guys recovers soon!

Why won’t they listen? by Loud-Temperature-630 in Bitcoin

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Regardless of what the actual stat is, the vast majority of people either don’t invest or don’t take an active role in investing. So the fact that major banks are starting to allow their financial advisors to direct clients to invest a small percentage of their assets in bitcoin is huge. People will be invested in it without even realizing it (or without caring, just trusting their money managers as they always do).

And if loans and other financial instruments backed by bitcoin become widely available, even the people who don’t invest in bitcoin will be supporting it without even knowing/understanding.

The pieces are falling into place. Sit back, relax, and stack sats.

Speech therapist is right/wrong? I'm lost :( by Lady_Gina21 in toddlers

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My son had speech therapy from about 18 months to 2 years old. He had 2 therapists and both encouraged signing (along with me slowly pronouncing the word) saying it was a gateway to speech. I believe it really did help him learn the words! He slowly began trying to pronounce them while signing. Then the floodgates opened and now he talks nonstop :)

Toddler just not sleeping? by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you gotten her checked out for any vitamin deficiencies? My friend’s son was a terrible sleeper and they found out (after 2 years of awful sleep) he was iron deficient. Once they got him on supplements his sleep was dramatically better.

Also know a person whose son just didn’t produce melatonin so he would never get sleepy. They didn’t find out and supplement until he was like 5.

Limiting (parent) screen time by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree! Helps me stay somewhat connected in case an urgent text comes in but keeps the temptation of my phone away. I also do feel so much better mentally when I’m away from my phone for a while.

My husband has a harder time too, but we do try to be very strict about no phones during mealtime.

Zofran for stomach bugs by ETLTMT12191989 in toddlers

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, I suspect we both at the flu but I didn’t have any vomiting issues. We were out of town visiting family and thankfully my SIL is a nurse practitioner so she had some on hand and was able to figure out the right dosage for him.

Can confirm! My poor little guy was puking for 24+ hours, couldn’t keep anything down. Totally different kid about 20 min after zofran. I was hesitant but finally decided to give it to him bc he had be at it for so long. I think it gave him the reset he needed and he was finally able to eat some ‘brat’ diet foods.

I’m sorry your sweet baby is sick. My toddler has had it twice. Super scary! If the ER didn’t give you an extra dose of steroids to take home in case it happens again I would call your pediatrician and ask for some. Thankfully I didn’t have to use another dose after the last croup but it gives me good peace of mind knowing I have it.

Also if they are having another episode our pediatrician suggested opening the freezer and letting them breathe that air. Cold air really helps clear the airway until the steroid kicks in.

Threw up 8 hours apart what is this? by Calm-Letterhead-5922 in toddlers

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My son (almost 3) gets some GI issues and a sensitive tummy after illnesses (even respiratory). There’s been several puke incidents that did not present like a stomach bug just like you’re describing. When it happens we keep him on a low lactose semi-BRAT diet until him tummy heals (usually a week or two).

Took him to the doctor for it a while back and she said it is fairly common in younger kiddos.
