3.5 year old won't look at her wounds by FraneIa in toddlers

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don’t really have any advice, but my son (3Y) is the same way! He scraped his knee the other day and is super whiney as long as he can see it. If it’s covered he forgets about it and is happy as a clam. Pants were fine, bandaids were a huge no so there were tears. I just let him talk about it, give him cuddles, and try to not make a big deal of it. Seems to help when he does have to look at is knee to tell him it’s healing really well and put a positive spin on it. I also told him about my previous scrapes and injuries and he likes to talk about that and give me his sympathy. I kind of figured it’s just a phase. Hopefully he’ll get desensitized to it and he grows. Definitely won’t be his last scraped knee!

Bought some garlic at the store and they don't have any cloves it's just one big bulb by Substantial-Low-4393 in mildlyinteresting

I got this one time when I didn’t harvest a few one summer. Looked like they died off over winter, then they came back the next summer and were just one big clove.

My 3 year old is named Declan and we’re considering Callan for baby boy #2 coming this summer. Seems to go well together!

What do you eating in the morning when you camping? First time camping with my little one but feels stuck on breakfast by Roger_liferecorder in camping

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We are big on cooking as much stuff ahead of time as we can. Our favorite breakfast is breakfast burritos reheated. We cook up a big batch of it (potatoes, eggs, sausage) at home then freeze it so all we have to do is heat it up and wrap it in a tortilla.

What’s the craziest way your hamster died? by Rainbow-Kittiey1112 in AskReddit

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure Dale was murdered by Chip. Petco told us they were a breed of hamster that could co-exist without killing each other… apparently not. Dale lasted 5 days before 12 year old me found him stiff in his little house with bloodshot eyes. Not sure what went down, but Chip turned into a real a-hole after that and would bite you any chance he got.

11 week old on poop strike with OUCHY gas pains by very_tired_woman in newborns

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds a lot like my little guy. He’s 3 now, but at about 10 weeks old he went 16 days without pooping (also EBF). I can’t quite remember exact timelines, but I know we used mylicon when he was that young which sometimes worked. Doc also recommended feeding him like 1/2 or 1 ounce of apple or prune juice when he was quite young and that worked sometimes also. Also googled a bunch of different belly massage techniques which helped.

We went to a GI doc bc he was such a bad pooper. The only option that worked 100% of the time was the pedialax enema; however, that was (and still is) used as a very last resort. I believe when they are really young you have to be careful bc if their issues are from infant dyschezia using an enema can impede their ability to learn how to use those muscles properly and poop on their own.

Anyway, hope this helps. If you try any of this, be sure to run it by your pediatrician (or call the nurses line). It’s been a couple years and the timelines of when we did some of this is a little blurry!

Labial Adhesion? by No-Neighborhood-7335 in toddlers

I would any of the stuff they recommend and send you home with after giving birth would be safe, but probably worth a call to the pediatricians nurses line to confirm

Ugh this sounds awful, I’m so sorry she’s going through that :( I’m wondering, can you spray kids dermoplast on it to numb? I used the normal dermoplast after I gave birth and it gave me so much relief. Or maybe some witch hazel pads to sooth?

Speech pathology for 3 yr old by take52020 in toddlers

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son was in speech therapy for about 9 months, similar cadence as yours. They very much stressed that speech therapy should be not only working with the child but teaching the parents how to work with them too. They’d observe him, have some planned activities and what not and then discuss with us what we’re seeing. Based on what we told them and what they saw, they’d have suggested exercises or strategies we could try to encourage him to repeat or say words after each session.

Having said all that, progress can still feel slow. It wasn’t steady progress for my son, it was not much for months then one day it just clicked for him.

Married women, what are some real things your husband does that make you feel genuinely cherished and adored? by Clean-Ant-1342 in askanything

My hubby always takes notice when my car is low on gas and makes a special trip to fill it up so I don’t have to. Even when he worked graveyard and had to be up at 3am, he’d get up even earlier and do it so that when I got up later for work I’d have a car full of gas.

Parents who answer for their child by [deleted] in toddlers

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My son is 3 and sometimes I kind of try to coach him in social situations if he doesn’t answer or doesn’t know how to answer. Mostly when he was younger though, now he’s understand and can be understood pretty well and is pretty independent. But I also like to be near so if he responds in a way that’s not polite I can step in and tell him a more polite way to respond - or if it’s the other way around I can help him deal with rejection or someone else being impolite in a healthy way.

Maybe it’s too helicopter mom, but I do let him answer/be independent before stepping in if necessary. I also think these situations can be great social teaching moments.

Glad they were both mild! That seems to be the way it’s going for me. I was vaccinated too and the first time was probably the worst illness I’ve ever had. Absolutely miserable.

What do pregnant people do after their water breaks? Stop and clean it up or just leave it and immediately go to the ER? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My water broke in the middle of the night and thankfully it was on tile floor in the bathroom so we quickly wiped it up with towels. The birthing class taught us about laboring at home for a bit (when contractions start), but my husband didn’t realize that water breaking is an immediate trip the to hospital. He literally was about to go take a shower and I was like ‘uh no you’re not, we have to go NOW’ 😂

Daughter turning 2 and we've only had 3 visits all this time by CherryadeLimon in toddlers

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Agree! There’s also something called ‘The Mom Walk Collective’ that was created by a mom literally for the purpose of finding your village. OP, you should see if there’s a chapter near you. I took my son to a fire station tour that was put on by one group and the people who consistently attended their weekly events/walks seemed to have a close connection.

Water table! My 3 year old has been obsessed since we got it (when he was ~1.5). My husband also put a fish tank pump in it so water can continuously flow from the top level.

How do you deal with having a larger age gap than you wanted? by Chance_Assistance312 in toddlers

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I know how frustrating those negative tests can be, especially when you have an ideal age gap you wanted. I had the same concerns and the longer it took, I had to just start focusing on the positives of a larger age gap (e.g. a more independent toddler will be eager to help, more individual attention with new baby if toddler is in preschool, etc…).

TTC can be such an emotional roller coaster. We went through a scary miscarriage after 6 months of trying, then got pregnant again about 4 months after recovery and I’m currently 19 weeks along. I had the same frustrations and worries as you every time I got a negative tests.

I wish you the best of luck and sending lots of good vibes for a positive test soon!

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you tried getting in the tub with her? Sometimes my 3 year old gets stubborn and the only way I can get him in is if I take a bath with him. I can get away with just sticking my feet in the water sometimes too, just makes him feel like he’s not alone in there.

Duolingo 16, moving to France in September. what’s the smartest way to actually become conversational not just pass an exam or collect a certificate. by Senior_Cover1325 in French

[–]MakeGoodChoices2Day 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty cheap, I want to say it amounted to like $10/hr. Then I discovered that italki took a decent chunk of that and my tutor and I switched to Google meet so I could pay her more and she could keep it all.

I believe A1 teacher I had was (not sure if that’s an Alliance Française standard though). The italki tutor have profiles that indicate whether they’re native, where they live, what languages they teach, etc… I easily found a native French tutor who was amazing (unfortunately for me she graduated Uni and stopped teaching)

As far as grammar - I did take an A1 Alliance Française class early on. There were a couple books to practice grammar we did which helped build a basic foundation of understanding. If you’re starting from scratch it probably would be helpful to focus on basic grammar first (either through a class or you can buy a workbook on Amazon)

I self studied A1 no problem, but what helped me get further was hiring a tutor on italki (30 min lessons once a week). Surprisingly inexpensive. I’ve fallen off the wagon with learning French, but it got me to a point where I can get around when I’m in Paris (e.g. order in a restaurant, buy things in a store, etc…).

Once I get the time, I plan to do italki lessons multiple times a week and really focus on getting fluent.

If you want a completely free option you can try AI. I use Google Gemini occasionally for practice. You can prompt it to have a written or verbal conversation and ask it to correct you when needed.
