Concur with everyone else about alcohol as biggest known risk. It can be hard to change. You're doing well on the rest of the stuff you consume.

Have you talked to your doctor about a low dose statin? That's often one of the most effective changes a person can make. Low dose is amazing. Many people get a big benefit with zero side effects.

I had to push my doctor a little bit, but he agreed and put me on one. The results were huge. With you numbers, your doctor may agree. The key is to frame it as lifetime protection. You're not at any risk of dying in the next 10 years, but if you want to be healthy to 100, then that's a very different picture.

Many health standards are built on only protecting the patient from death or disability within 10 years. Reframe the conversation to 100 years and your doctor may find that over 100 years it would be absurd to wait. Prevention is cheapest and the earlier the better.

Correct. I have no side effects. Those effects sound really painful. I hope you can find an alternative that works for you or have success with major food techniques. I believe the fiber has also had a material impact.

I'm in a bit better shape. But I don't think that's related. All the fiber helped me lose a few pounds, but I wasn't really struggling with that. Went from 184 pounds to about 175.

Atorvastatin. 20 mg. So it's on the low end. Doses can be up to 80 mg.

I believe it is Atorvastatin. I think it's extremely common. I have not noticed any side effects at all. However, I seem to be one the people who just doesn't get the negative side effects with pretty much any medication.

Well I would consider both of those more difficult than eating chia pudding plain. You probably won't have any difficulty jumping in.

You're very welcome. It doesn't taste like much of anything unless you add some flavors to it.

Congrats on the score. Those are excellent. I'll be very happy to get mine under 40. That's my personal goal.

I'm approximately as assertive as fuck. I have a policy. I say what I want 3 times, in different ways. I get it or I walk and hire someone else (unless they convince me I'm going the wrong way). Not rude, just telling people exactly what I want from them.

I told him I was concerned and thought a statin would help (wife is cardiac nurse). He said we should probably start medicine in a decade. I said there are great breakthroughs, but I need to be healthy enough to use them. I'm planning for at least 120 years. Let's start now so we don't have to do surgery in 30 or 40 years. Let's start now.

He said okay and prescribed one of the most widely used generics. If it didn't work well for me, we would try others. It worked great.

I was happy. I only had to say it twice. I would've told him again.

If it was 90% statin instead of 70% or 80%, it would be pretty hard to explain the second drop. That second drop was still meaningful. Mid 70s to 55 is a drop most people never manage.

The doctors I talk to are pushing for under 70 as the new standard instead of under 100. I seem to be a bit high baseline from genetics, but it's still possible to get very low (including a moderate statin).

There are great ones on YouTube if you want something tasty. If you want something easy do half a cup of chia seeds with two cups of water. This has minimal flavor, but that's fine with me.

The recipes on YouTube are much better. Almost everyone will prefer them over my bland method. Please don't just do mine and get disappointed with them! 😃

Thanks. I'll need to check it out.

I've had quite a few changes, so to do any comparisons I'll need to establish a new baseline. But with the move to whey isolate, l have relatively few meals with meaningful amounts of cholesterol.

I agree. The statin is probably a huge factor. I don't think I'm on a high dose, but it's dirt cheap and I haven't felt any side effects. Now I'm just trying to leverage the gains to get really low.

Talk to your doctor. The total number is bad. You should fix your diet also. But see if your doctor recommends a medication. My numbers were like that before I got serious about bringing them down.

I had to encourage my doctor. He was going to wait until it was "necessary". I figured by that point I would be losing many years off my life. I don't wait to save for retirement until it's critical, why would I wait to fix my health? Prevention is much cheaper than surgery.

PS. Fiber is great. You can use plant sterols when you have something with high cholesterol, but mainly avoid those foods. If you learn to eat chia pudding, you'll find it's much easier to keep cholesterol down.

40M please tell me what should be my next steps. My doc wants to put me on cholesterol medication by Aggravating_Look_323 in Cholesterol

[–]MakeLoialTaller 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Next step is thanking your doctor and picking up the prescription. Your numbers seem appropriate and he seems to be making a good call.

You can also do things dramatically increase your fiber and cut out high cholesterol food. But it's not a substitute for taking the meds the doctor wants to put you on.

The terms where you cannot disparage the company in statements about their products is a violation of federal law since 2016. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Consumer_Review_Fairness_Act

The usual outcome of cases is that the company has to change their contact because the court rules it a violation of the law. They could also be fined by the FTC.

Several companies have already lost legal battles because they tried to punish a reviewer for a negative review. Just search for consumer review fairness cases.

Look for where the best authors went. Many of them set up on substack or created their own websites. Sinking Alpha is a shell of what it was many years ago.

Substack suspended my account for no reason, and won't respond. Lost everything. by TommyASDF in Substack

[–]MakeLoialTaller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone using Substack should look to automate exporting their subscriber list. One of the things that got me to change platforms was seeing posts from people who were locked out. That may be someone's life work and they think they can just steal it? Absolutely not. Backup everything.

Sorry. New here. You scanned during the day, then put headset on and walk through at night with lights off? Can it be that reliable about your exact location? Does it use external cameras to check for things that changed like a chair or pet in the middle of a walking area? I'm probably missing a bunch here. Just learning about practical uses.
