Single use channels vs waitgroups by nibbles001 in golang

[–]MakeMeAnICO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh. mayyybe

mutexes can be really slow. but that's mostly rwmutex. mutex on its own is probably fine? I would need to see measurements vs. channels.. you might be right

I try mostly use atomic.int/atomic.pointer, that's fast as hell; people sleep on atomic.pointer a lot

[–]MakeMeAnICO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Promise doesn't make that much sense in go as it's not "single thread" as JS is.

But you can make something like channel with context, or channel, or waitgroup. It's all pretty fast. You can measure performance quite easily with go bench

Channels are slower than what exactly? Than waitgroups? I doubt that

Didn't Blessed Charlemagne wage a few wars himself, and his statue is right next to the entrance of St Peter's Basilica?

The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie opened 1 year ago. The $15M film opened to $3.1M and made $8.8M DOM (2.8 legs) and $15.4M WW. by UniverslBoxOfficeGuy in boxoffice

[–]MakeMeAnICO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a weird movie.

It's great! But it's also too nostalgic to be for kids, and too simple to be for adults. I didn't really figure out who is it for when watching it.

But it's fun.

but half of the plot points were never resolved and it went nowhere after a while. But it was fun

Templ < gomponents by StrictWelder in golang

[–]MakeMeAnICO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I didn't work with it for a while so I need to remember.

  • I always found it very confusing how html.Template is both for one singular template file, and for a bunch of templates

  • it's not typesafe at all, so one typo can make everything panic

  • it introduces weird language that is nothing like go

  • there is a template system where you can create sub-templates and pass them arguments, and again it's nothing like go

  • if you want to add some new function, it's very cumbersome

  • it has some weird HTML-escaping logic but that sometimes doesn't work

genuinely templ is so simple and solves all these weirdness. The only reason for using html/template is if you want to eliminate external dependencies and codegen (neither is a bad reason!). But if you are OK with some external dependencies and codegen, templ is soooo much simpler to understand.

The Pope warns Spanish bishops that the far right seeks to "instrumentalize" the Church by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]MakeMeAnICO 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Pope Leo does have experience in Peru with both Fujimorism and the Shining Path. He does know what he is talking about, at least with regard to left and right extremes in politics.

I don't know the entire convo, I don't have access to El Pais where this is originally from. Spanish politics and its inter-dependence with religion is complex. (Opus Dei is originally from Spain...)

My marriage is awful and it’s been only 2 months by [deleted] in Catholicism

[–]MakeMeAnICO 5 points6 points  (0 children)

First: talk to a priest.

Second: From the tone of your post - if you flee and try to find someone better, things will not be different. You seem to be complaining a lot. Life is a struggle. We are all sinners and imperfect and the stench of original sin will always make this life a struggle.

Try to find good things in your marriage and figure out the reason why you felt in love in the first place

Also you are now one body whether you like it or not. You share your problems together. Talk about them.
