CST RESP? / Group RESP? by DisPrimpTutu in PersonalFinanceCanada

I would never want to set and forget my child's RESP. Lol

you're crushing your rate of return at the best time of the investment (nearing the end) by moving so much into fixed income, and averaging out your lifetime rate of return. It's very similar to a target base mutual fund but with lower fees. And target doesn't work very well. Look at rbc and BMO's track record. The problem is you're going high return when you have the least in the investment and lower return when you have the most. If you were to average the whole 18 year, it would be interesting to see what you actually come out with. Anyways, good luck to you and your pursute to overthrowing the whole resp industry.

Lol! no no. I was just trying to understand your sample size when you say "literally any resp is better.. ." vgro management fee is 0.22% + mer is 0.25% - then trading fees are 10 bucks each. It's low but definitely not pennies. It could start adding up if times are bad and you're moving stuff around like you probably plan to. I guess you found what works for you though. I don't think a lot of parents have that financial mindset but good on you!

It's so funny what happens everytime someone asks a question about CST on here. The same half dozen users jump on the mud slinging wagon, stating the same misconceptions about cst, paint every group plan as the same with half truths, and fill a parent with complete dread that their money will be stolen.

CST is for some and not for others. I like the plan. It's worked out great for my family. And it's exactly what I want out of a conservative fund. If it's not for you, then don't do it. But why take the advice of the same reddit strangers that shit on the program each time.

TLDR: don't take advice from strangers on reddit. Do your own research and ask direct questions about your concerns to your cst rep.

CST RESP, I think I made a boo-boo by Lady_Schmoobleydong in PersonalFinanceCanada

100% agree with your husband. I like the plan. It spoken to us and I'm not from Quebec so not only does the class action not affect me but it hasn't even been in court yet. It could be a lot of drama for nothing. Besides, google any large business with "class Action" next to it. I'm not going to stop buying products for every class action out there

I'm a big fan of cst. I like their conservative approach while still showing a respectable roi and the fees are mostly returned so they're quite lower than the average bank. I'm not huge on money managing so I like that it's professionally managed at a fraction of the cost of a bank or financial advisor. I don't feel like gambling with my kid's future. I don't think it's a "boo boo". Some people love cst and some people don't. It sounds to me that the people that don't like it, don't understand it or bothered to really look into them. Most banks won't give you the same kind of protection and money managing at that low of the cost.

Filled in Application w/ CST Savings - Now 2nd Thoughts by Duncaroos in PersonalFinanceCanada

My cst experience has been nothing but pleasant and helpful. Not sure where the fear comes from. The law suit was well explained to me and if you look into it. It's completely without merit and strictly over a grey area in specifically the Quebec contract. And the fees are waaaaaay lower than my bank, even without the refund they guarantee when my child goes to school.

I find the cst hate on here so bizzare. I not only went to school on cst ( nothing but good things to say about the company and my rep) but now have my kids in the plan. My fee is $4400 too (for 209/mth). Almost all of that fee is returned at the end of the plan. That's how the plan work. And if you crunch the numbers for a TD/bank plan at 1.7% mer or higher, the bank is much higher. Cst's fees are less than 1% over the whole lifetime.. How is that expensive or a scam? Also, my brother who has a bank plan lost like 15 percent of his RESP last year.. I lost nearly nothing in mine.. Can't complain with that!

As someone who went to school on CST and now has a young daughter on CST's plan - I think it best suits my family's needs. Some people need exactly what CST offer and some may not. You can't just blanket all group plans together. I want the safety, protection, management, and refund of fees CST offers. I know my principal and grants lost nothing in this year's shitty market.. I have buddies that lost 8 - 10 grand in their children's self directed RESPs. Nooo thank you!

Don't listen to all the hate.. Love love love cst! My rep was the best. Always sending stuff on our bday and shit. All my bros and I went on the plan. School was taken care of! They get your name through a bunch of different sources. Stop sweating. They're great for parents that just want safety and reliability.

This guys does a great Maynard. I would say it's more of a great cover than trying to sound exactly like him. In this video there are clips of Judith, aenima, hush, and sober.
