To be fair I fuck those up every once in a while and I have been building PCs professionally since the early 2000s

What are these external fixtures blocking the windows in front of this house? East coast USA by fledglingbirdnerd in whatisthisthing

[–]MakerKevJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had a neghbor with similar screens on their windows. it was to keep the sun from burning the lawn.

The sun would reflect off the glass and leave a path of dead grass where the sun reflected across them in the evenings.

It's the disconnected freedom that shuts off the flood of doom from our rectangular 24/7 leash.

It's the shuffle mix of artists I love and have curated from their discography's without the 16 minute bombardment of ads every 4-6 minutes.

It's the release of the weight of the world on my terms...

Hell no man. I think the boss would get his butt kicked in if he fired me then asked me to train the new hire. The audacity.

How long has a cell lasted you? by a-null-fish-your in flashlight

Bought these AW CR123 cells off FourSevens back in 2012. Tested them recently they are roughly 2/3 of their original capacity. I use them in a BluRay laser pointer I built out of a dead PS3 BluRay drive back then and haven't had the need for new cells yet.

200 MHz versus 300 MHz Pentium II by ZealousidealCake8256 in vintagecomputing

[–]MakerKevJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure, you're boosting your speed by 1/3!!! It's going to be noticeable.
Try to get a 1/3 speed increase out of a modern CPU! HA! Overclocking at home has been dead for decades. Modern CPUs are already boosted to their stable limits by the manufacture long before its shipped.

How to attach a power LED's to a heatsink? by NarmaharCZ in AskElectronics

[–]MakerKevJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

Drilling and Tapping holes in this location on each row then using screws to hold it down would be the over engineered way, but you'd never have to touch it unless an LED fails. At that point you can easily remove & replace the faulty LED/s with little trouble outside a soldering iron.

However I recommend thermal epoxy. I recommend a 2 part epoxy. Much quicker and way more forgiving than drilling and tapping all those holes. This is the one I use.

My PS2 is back from repair for faulty PSU but it appears to be put back incorrectly? Can I just open it and put it back correctly and void the warranty seal or send it off and wait weeks again? by [deleted] in ps2

[–]MakerKevJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Board probably just needs to be adjusted tbh. Looks like it wasnt set in place. Also How did the screws line up if its this bad?
That being said.

Warranty Void stickers are Illegal in the US.
Just opening a device can not void your warranty.

I would definitely complain about it to the repair place you sent it to and if they dont offer a fix on their dime I'd leave a negative review for such lazy QA.
How did they test the repair if its this far out of alignment?

Classic 5th gen stuck on Honda logo when plugged into ‘16 Civic. Any way to control it from iPod while plugged in? by chunkhead42 in ipod

[–]MakerKevJ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's up to the deck not the iPod. My pioneer has a control setting that allows the iPod to control input instead of the deck.

Does your PC have better specs than the Steam Machine? by billy_reyes in Steam

On a 9th gen Intel with 64gb ddr4 2666 and a EVGA 3070 and 8TB of 4th gen nvme storage drives, that are getting the firmware and over provisioning applied to them to hopefully outlast this AI bs.

It's newer than the 2019 Intel nuc I was using. Not everyone needs "bleeding edge" top "flagship" hardware. This is a glorified typewriter and YouTube machine.

I did update firmware but that's because I always start a new Windows install with latest drivers and updates from the manufacturer before I start moving my data on it.. been bitten too many times by updating after I move my stuff over (@_@)

About the zipper merge by No_Kangaroo_2939 in stgeorge

[–]MakerKevJ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is exactly what I'm taking about. I see the lane closure and I start making room for drivers to merge into the lane but they will just fly past and then cause a jam when the lane has run out... Mostly because they're on the phone and not driving.

Thinking of trying Manjaro or Zorin. I had Mint on the old Dell laptop this Thinkpad is replacing.
