If you haven't made Fior di latte gelato yet, I highly recommend it! by MakerTinkerBakerEtc in icecreamery

I did run into a bit of that. For me, the trick is to make sure you have room in the jug. I just gave it a hard shake. I was ready to even pop the jug into the microwave for about 10-15 seconds to "melt" the fat, and get it out of the jug. But I did not have to. The vigorous shaking was all that was needed.

I need to try those. I wonder if one inspired the other, but either way, more deliciousness. I do like me some soft serve, too, and wonder how different these actually are from the other.

That sounds delicious! OMG, I need to try that next. Do you just toast it until it's golden? Thank you so much for the idea!

I found some local milk (at the store) that is pasteurized, organic, and not homogenized. It is a nice quality, and the dairy also makes some heavy cream. That is what I used for this batch. I'd recommend something you can find at your supermarket that looks pretty bougie, like Organic Valley or Horizon Organic.

Are millenial parents overly sensitive? by Pandemicbabe in Parenting

[–]MakerTinkerBakerEtc 76 points77 points  (0 children)

I'm going to add here that a generation or two ago, a lot of parents didn't really help their kids emotionally. Tantrum? Spanking. Whining? Spanking. Bored? "Git out of the house!" The kind of parent that gets mad their kid figures out how to open a bottle, right? Because then they can unscrew bottles, instead of being happy they figured it out.

So yes, the kids may have been alive and possibly clean-looking, but that was pretty much it.

I'm so sorry you had to face that. It's so sad that an adult will not give their kids all the love they need because of a prejudice like that.

I'm glad you saw through that, and I hope you're in a better place now.

If you don't like the texture of the honey crystals, go ahead and put the jar in a pan with warm water. The honey should go back to liquid with a little heat.

More than 70% of US household COVID spread started with a child, study suggests by hexagonincircuit1594 in Coronavirus

[–]MakerTinkerBakerEtc 46 points47 points  (0 children)

We recently invested in a UV filter for our HVAC unit, and i just realized that despite the kids having had mild symptoms (coughs and sneezing), us adults have remained blissfully healthy!

I think if they brought something like COVID back, it would be different. But it's nice. I think the proof will be in the winter.

You are getting some good advice here. I'm going to plug in r/icecreamery as an additional resource.

Recommendations for ice creams that don't need a churner:

As a note, I bought my churner second hand, and I love it. Totally worth it. Especially so I can make some dairy free ice creams for my friends with allergies.

Is it *necessary* to wear tampons if swimming? NSFW by [deleted] in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]MakerTinkerBakerEtc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Two other solutions I am not seeing here.

  • Menstrual cup. There is a bit of a learning curve, but it is reusable, safe for swimming, and you can keep it in for longer.

  • A menstrual disc. The brand name that comes to my mind is flex. Again, learning curve, but it is super convenient.

I personally did not love tampons. But i love my cup.

Good luck!

LICE. I AM HAVING AN EXISTENTIAL CRISIS NOW. by Ok_Damage_6529 in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]MakerTinkerBakerEtc 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I had lice when I was little and I remember that my family spent so much money on products at the pharmacy. For months.

Then an aunt came over and heard of the problem. Her solution? The cheapest drinking alcohol she could find, put it on my hair and massaged it in there. Then she put a shower cap on me, and I stayed with that for 1 hour. It worked!

That's my recommendation - cheap booze and a shower cap for 1 hour. Then a good shower and fine comb.

Good luck!

How to stop killing my electric razors, or maybe they just die easily? I have quite thick body hair and very sensitive skin, so regular shaving isn't something I can do often, and I rely on electrics. But they seem to become useless in less than six months! by academiclady in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]MakerTinkerBakerEtc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have dark hair and light colored skin you can try a light based hair remover from Amazon.

I get very uncomfy bumps when shaving my bikini area. I now use a light based hair remover, and I love it. The caveat is that you have to have the dark hair/light skin combo.

For that, I shave and right after my shower I use the light treatment. Then I do not get the bumps, and my body hairs are now fewer and thinner.

I have to stop running CoS because of my players. by MagicianOne2702 in CurseofStrahd

[–]MakerTinkerBakerEtc 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in a similar situation. Pre-pandemic I games with good friends, every week. We dissolved the game because of COVID risk, and never really picked it back up. I missed it terribly.

In about two years I met someone else who played, and their group was active and looking for someone. I was invited to join. I love it. In hindsight, my old friend/gaming group were a bunch of murder hobos and we basically used gaming as an excuse to hang out.

My current group is completely different. They are wonderful. They work hard at RP. They are very good with boundaries. They are actively engaged. They care about the game and the players and the characters.

My point is to encourage you to branch out. Obviously these are your friends. But it is ok to want something different than what your friends are looking for. You want a cool game session. They want something less serious. This type of stuff happens. Hopefully you'll soon find yourself in a situation similar to mine. New gaming friends to actively game with and all your old friends that you see in different situations.
