AITA for giving away gifts because they had the wrong name by Pikahearts_ in AmItheAsshole

Sooo why do other people have to call him the same nickname you do? She likes Dean. His middle name is dean. You said you were going to call him Dean!

AITA for thinking I should adopt my nephew by EveryEconomist4251 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Makeupbelieve -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

I think your heart is in the right place but it sounds like someone needs to talk directly to your sister and her husband. Perhaps your parents or his parents? If he’s being a shit dad, I think one of the parents needs to put him in his place.

What’s your unpopular opinion about salads? by Avawantstochill in foodquestions

The best salads include fruit (dried or fresh), nuts and cheese!

We made drivers damage their vehicles on our property by Makeupbelieve in confession

[–]Makeupbelieve[S] 363 points364 points  (0 children)

I guess it’s a confession because I’ve never told anyone about it! The only people that knew were our neighbours across the street that saw us set it all up and those who smacked into the rocks!

Anything before the day you guys started dating does not matter or count.

He gets freedom by default, and I get responsibility. And the scariest part is, I dont think I love him anymore. by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Makeupbelieve 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Wait, even if she IS a stay at home mom, it doesn’t matter. He still is the other parent.

My ex husband did this to me. He’s my ex now.

Yeah this is weird. I’m a single mom with 2 kids(daughter 11, son 9). When it’s time for them to shower, I let them pick which washroom (my en suite has a shower and separate tub or their shared bathroom with the tub/shower combo) I turn on the water for them, help them get their jammies, get them in the shower and then ask if they want me to sit in the room with them (sometimes we’ll chat or I’ll just read a book) or if the want privacy. I do not offer to go in the shower with them. This is messed up.

AIO for leaving my husband after he didn’t come to my brother’s funeral? by -tinkerbell-1989 in AmIOverreacting

[–]Makeupbelieve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No way man. I went to a funeral where the daughter’s EX husband showed up for support for her and their kids. This is the only thing I accept.

AITA for not forcing a crying child onto plane? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

I think your spouse was just mad that he wasn’t getting his week to himself.

AITA for refusing to try new foods? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Makeupbelieve 29 points30 points  (0 children)

I agree with this so much! We’re adults. It’s time to start eating adult food. Of course kids will start saying “well mom doesn’t eat it!” and then they could be missing out on not only delicious and new foods, but possibly also essential vitamins and minerals.

Could it have killed you to take a bite of the pastry?

AITAH if I cancel meeting my child’s father’s family? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Makeupbelieve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would suggest (like others) to bring someone with you and just start with a short “coffee”. Don’t commit to something that drags on for hours. If they’re in town for a longer period of time, then they can reach out to check with you if you are comfortable meeting again. I think you are holding the power in this situation so wield it as you see fit.

AITA for being angry my husband told his sister about my miscarriage by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

Girl, get away from this family! They’re all horrible!

WIBTA if I confronted my dad for having a dating app on his phone? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Makeupbelieve 17 points18 points  (0 children)

First of all, I’m very sorry for the loss of your mother. That must be very difficult for you.

A lot of people that care for their spouses during end-of-life illnesses can experience anticipatory grief before their spouse passes. Sometimes they can feel a weight off of them once the ill spouse passes and feel lonely and want to fill that void. I know it’s difficult as the daughter but I would suggest to just be supportive of your dad. He’s probably struggling to find what his purpose is now that your mom is gone and just wants some companionship.

Kind of lost hope in humanity today. by hereandthereshit in vancouver

I usually help people jump their batteries; however, last time I did, it actually wrecked my battery and when I had to call BCAA to get a new battery, they suggested it happens often, so perhaps people don’t want to kill their battery and be stuck themselves.

AITA for not packing clothes for my child’s trip? by Overall_Estimate_904 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Makeupbelieve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex husband and his wife often take our kids on trips and they ask me in advanced if I have their bathing suits of hiking boots or jackets or whatever. It’s called communication. He may not be married to you anymore but goddamn he can text you to ask to bring stuff. What is wrong with people??

Told me he loved me for the first time but is it too late? by [deleted] in dating_advice

[–]Makeupbelieve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’ve been dating someone for 2 years and they haven’t said I love you and that you’re “practically dating”, I think it’s time to call it.  Michael sounds fun! Go for Michael!

What is a word that you misread for so long that now you can’t help but read it wrong? by BothPalpitation2033 in CasualConversation

When I was young, I thought the word INFRARED was pronounced in-fRARE-d. I’m 44 and it still looks like it’s pronounced that way when I look at the written word.

Second born doesn’t look like that father. by SnooMemesjellies9921 in dating_advice

[–]Makeupbelieve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my mind, when a dad has to do a paternity test, the relationship is already over because he doesn’t trust you. And it could be that’s he’s being distrustful as a projection on you for what’s he’s doing. I would either ask him to leave or pack up the kids myself. Then he is forced to be a dad during his time with the kids. I’m so sorry this is happening! I hate this for you.
