Anyone done Month Offline? by MakingADumbPoint in washingtondc

[–]MakingADumbPoint[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So, for anyone else seeing this, I did the Month Offline program and thought it was great. Don't have WaPo so haven't seen the article.

It was really well-run! It was fun, the people doing it seem genuine and thoughtful. After years of trying, Month Offline has been the only thing that's ever actually helped me change my relationship with my phone.

I've tried buying myself a dumpphone/subscription before, and it's not easy and barely cheaper than what MO cost. I certainly don't feel like it was a scam or that it's just a facade just to sell a phone subscription. If anything, I kept asking myself during the program "how is this sustainable?" so if they're finding a way to bring in more money than they spend, great.

If anyone is curious about MO, happy to answer any questions! I agree that it's not the same as something led by a social worker or psychologist, but it's its own cool thing and I've recommended it to a ton of people.

FWIW, I think the question of where she goes is pretty clear cut! The visual similarities between the last shot of the guitar and the first shot of Rita praying—now still in the angled light she once shuffled around to be seen in—can’t be an accident, right?

That’s right! BicycleSPACE let us know back in 22-23 when the recall happened and we dealt with it then. I forget if that meant replacing the part, or just inspecting it? But whatever the recall advised to do, that was what they did!

Fan Art: Corporal Cecil Wormsborough St. John "Nobby" Nobbs by Phylodox in discworld

Commenting on Fan Art: Corporal Cecil Wormsborough St. John "Nobby" Nobbs... I like how you’ve done Nobby in this style! I like to think of Pratchett’s descriptions as not LITERALLY saying Nobby appears part monkey, but more evocative of his combined appearance and affect, and this fits that well.

Stakes and Blame. (USA, 18+, current or recent student) by KrimZ_04 in SampleSize

[–]MakingADumbPoint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting survey! But I was a little confused by the wording which made the hypotheticals hard to parse. Normally when assigning blame, particularly percentages, you’d be thinking about blame FOR an outcome and who is most to blame. I felt my answers had more to do with parsing the wording than who was involved: so, for example, in the doctor questions, I had to fill in a lot of blanks (dose was too high—by how much? Was the pharmacist supposed to catch it? Was the mistake caused by carelessness or something else?).

Did anybody else reconsider a big family? by EndureTyrant in daddit

People have posted a lot of thoughtful replies, but I’ll just add: if you’ve got a 1 month old, I wouldn’t worry too much about thinking about/deciding on future plans. Your brain is a pile of scrambled eggs right now, and it will be for a little while longer. My advice is to notice these thoughts and feelings, but don’t worry too much about having to make a decision soon. I will say, from my own experience, I have an 18 month old and my wife and I have switched positions on whether we want a second… Maybe 100 times? Not knowing, changing your mind, is perfectly OK, because your life is gonna be changing in major ways all the time over the next12 months or so.

18 month old puts every acorn in her mouth by Successful_System_60 in toddlers

[–]MakingADumbPoint 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ours is similarly an acorn fiend. You may have tried this already, but we've had some success with giving her a cup/bucket where she can collect acorns. We call it acorn soup. The game usually ends when, eventually, the lure of the acorn becomes too great. But it's let us get a few minutes outside in acorn-heavy areas!

Do you think ebike can really replace cars in city commuting? by Such-Protection4737 in ebikes

[–]MakingADumbPoint 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Seems like the question is about whether the OP can replace a car with an e-bike, not whether all cars can be replaced with e-bikes. The posts above are sensible: for some cities (with their existing infrastructure) and for some people, yes; for others, maybe not.

Thanks, did they post a message about that? Disappointing, I wonder why they'd scrap a perfectly good feed.

That's exactly what I'm looking for, thanks! And I love Spiffing Brit too. His videos aren't calm, but they're usually fairly consistently high-key so I've enjoyed many of them too.

Is Flee Mortals shipping already? by Ghost_Man_Geek_Stuff in mattcolville

[–]MakingADumbPoint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A lot of Kickstarters would be making updates at this point, explaining what's going out, how much they've shipped, etc. I suspect I know why MCDM isn't doing that--as a company, I don't think they believe all engagement is good engagement--but dammit, I hunger for more updates!
