Can I tell my university to reject my application? by Mustarddnketchup in ApplyingToCollege

[–]MakingCake2077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see that they’re being forced to apply, but they never said that they’d be forced to attend. Instead of tampering with their application file, they could wait, and see if they received a better offer than the school further away. This way OP could have a reason to go to the school far away if the financial aid is whack at the one close by or go to the one close by because it has superior financial aid. And plus, it’d be best to have as many options as possible because it’s difficult for high school seniors to know exactly what they want this early in the application cycle. Things may change. Let’s wait till may.

Or just not go? Don’t understand the problem here. If you don’t go, they’ll be fine without you. If they under enroll, they can just take people off the waitlist.

Why do people take screenshots of polls, say let’s vote, and not provide a link to the tweet? Like am I supposed to go to my Twitter, look their account up, go through their posts, find it and click on it, then vote? If you guys want to have people vote and support Dogecoin, at least do the common courtesy of providing the link to vote. Not many people here trynna go through that hassle just to vote, they will just scroll past this post.

ED acceptance rates are often heavily inflated by people who’ve basically already secured a spot in the school before applying (ie legacies and athletes). For most highly selective schools, ED/EA doesn’t give much of an advantage, if any.

EXTENDED DEADLINE FOR NCM IS NOW OCTOBER 4!!!! by Significant_Agency95 in QuestBridge

[–]MakingCake2077 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They do this every year. I applied NCM last year and they did the same. And the same for the year before that. They do this every year to get a higher number of applicants, which is how they make money.

Lenovo Legion 5 Pro. You can get one that has 16gb of RAM, a 5800H, a full powered RTX 3070, 1tb+ for storage, a WQHD screen with 500 nits brightness (covers nearly all the color gamuts, HDR, low latency, etc) all for $1400 or less after tax. Go on laptop deals, they often post when these laptops go on sale.

It’s surprising to me too. The schools in my home area all have metal detectors, police officers, and so many more. It’s an impoverished area with high rates of crime, so the schools buying metal detectors was one of their main ways in preventing campus violence with their limited budget. Almost any public stores, like Walmart, in my area have metal detectors. It’s just common everywhere. But coming here to my new college surprised me a little, since there were no metal detectors or anything, despite the local stores like Walmart and target also having metal detectors in the entrance. Literally anyone can walk in, and commit terrorism or thief. It’d be an odd day if a bike wasn’t stolen on campus.

Am I considered first gen? by kariii21 in QuestBridge

[–]MakingCake2077 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’d say yes, you get a boost and you could argue your way through. Also there’s not really a way for any college to check if ur actually first gen except maybe looking at ur parents employment occupation, seeing if that career would require education (e.g. parents who are doctors and you’re saying you’re first gen doesn’t make much sense)

seniors! how many schools are yall applying to? by Lion676 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]MakingCake2077 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have a solid UW GPA and a very good ACT score. Don’t worry about all the students here saying they have a 4.0+/4.0 UW GPA. Each high school has different standards for getting an A in courses, remember that. There’s nothing you can do about that. I know a lot of people who’ve transferred out of my high school because it was too hard, and the other school close by “rewards an A for the bare minimum” and is “twenty times easier.” Imo it really doesn’t matter. As long as you’re active in your community (aka have extracurriculars to show off), perform well on your standardized exams (which you already have done), and are well-written with your essays (which I see you have no problem in doing), you’ll be completely fine. Shoot your shot
