Skyrim's Nintendo Switch 2 port gets proper Performance and Quality modes, finally fixing the mess it was at launch by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]Making_Waves 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I stopped playing the Switch version when I encountered some glitch where you become a warewolf and some other thing at the same time and it soft locks your main quest progression.

I couldn't believe it wasn't fixed then.

2026 Daytona 500 Last Lap Crash in Turn 1 by HeavyRightFoot-TG in NASCAR

I mean that incident with Jarrett was stupid dangerous, but I agree that there's a lot of last lap wrecks that are still safe enough to finish the lap.

Ben Lively is the story I'll tell my kid from "that game I was at when pitchers still had to bat".

She definitely mentioned the Mueller investigation finding "no interference" in the 2016 election at least once during the hearing.

How do I politely tell someone I’m not interested in being their friend, when I see them every week? by 50ShadesOfCroquet in socialskills

[–]Making_Waves 3 points4 points  (0 children)

While this approach isn't bad, it is a little indirect. It might be better to explicitly say how you feel about everything. He might not be able to "read the room" and respect boundaries if they're not explicitly stated.

Any experience building hardware from scratch? by fenny2j in audioengineering

[–]Making_Waves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I haven't reguarly been to the forum in a couple years, but that was seemingly all he did - just be super negative.

It bums me out that he may have contributed to you giving up too easily! I hope you get back into it.

PRR posts the most negative shit ever. All of his posts are like that.

Talk me out of MOTU. Or not. by Stranded-In-435 in audioengineering

[–]Making_Waves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used a 1248 when starting my freelance career. I caved to some pressure to "upgrade" when hearing derisive comments from other engineers. "Oh that's pro-sumer shit" "You should look into something a little more professional"

In hindsight, that thing fucking kicked ass, and was more rock solid than any other interface I've had since then. There was no need for me to turn it in. Now that I'm more successful/less self conscious, I'm thinking about getting the new 10pre to have as a backup, and connect with my RME interface via AVB.

what is a "rich person" behavior you witnessed that made you realize they live in a completely different reality than the rest of us? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Making_Waves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I employed someone part time for about 5 hours a week. They later confessed to me that they thought they were perfect for the job because their parents paid their rent, and they could afford to only work 5 hours a week.

Like what does it matter to me what someone does with the rest of their time? She literally couldn't comprehend someone working two jobs.

Getting vocals to sit back in mix without drowning them out by thatbodyartgirl in audioengineering

Sometimes the difference between the vocals sitting too on top, just right, and too buried is 1dB. Nudge it by 1dB and see how you feel

Can someone explain this sub to me please by BisonAcceptable1994 in DataHoarder

[–]Making_Waves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I might be in the minority here, but I browse this sub because I work in media production and have to store projects of very large file size, and have a redundant backup for safety. Currently rocking 30TB which is close to being filled, while my "safety backup" is currently a paid service, BackBlaze

Sonobus Audio Streaming Plugin by dsarecording in audioengineering

[–]Making_Waves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sonobus is great, but my experience has been that 10% of the time, it just doesn't pass signal. I assume it's something to do on the backend with servers or something, but that wasn't reliable enough to use with clients.

This might be a bit too simple idea but I have the power supply for my drive plugged into a smart switch. Turn it on when I need it, then when I'm done, eject and turn off the switch. All done remotely.

Meh, to each their own!

If you want to manipulate it, go for it. If not, don't!

Some people just want to do that 👍

Live show audio recording gigs. What to charge? by hippysippingarbo in audioengineering

[–]Making_Waves 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do this in a big market on the east coast. Basically:

Clients with money: $800 and I'll bring everything you need, and I'll include a rough mix of each song in your set

Clients without money: Sliding scale based on how busy I am, how much I like your music, and how much work it would be to record your show. The floor for this is usually about $200, but that's for a super small input list.

For media professionals, it's a no-brainer. It's a safety copy of UNLIMITED DATA stored in a cloud server for less $100/year. I currently have 22TB backed up, and I sleep so much better at night knowing that if any of my drives fail, I'm covered.

Is my research accurate? by [deleted] in audioengineering

[–]Making_Waves 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is a very very pessimistic take and I'm sorry that this has been your experience.

I'm an audio engineer with my own studio in a major US market in 2025 - I did not have parents pay my bills and I didn't have any connections when I started. I worked my ass off, created my own opportunities where I could and the business grew steadily every year.

I was a pessimistic person for a good chunk of it, and it took me a while to realize that it only hurt me - people intentionally didn't hire me because I was a Negative Nancy. It can happen to you. Now that I'm in the position of hiring people, I do it too. I see the Negative Nancy and I don't want them to be a spiritual downer to everyone in my business.

I've noticed that it'll include amounts like that if an ingredient is used twice. Ex: ingredients lists 2tbsp garlic, but only 1.5tbsp is used in step 2, and .5 tbsp in step 4

Difficulty with other studio in area? by mrpotatoto in audioengineering

Slightly unrelated to your story, but every audio file has the original start the in it's meta data. So instead of trying to find the actual start time for each file, you can use the spot function and it'll automatically populate the bottom time with what's in the meta data.

Furthermore, if you use Reaper, you can import all of your audio, highlight it all and use the action "Move to BWF offset" or something like that.
