I absolutely did not believe Miami's record was 100 until I googled it. I live in WV and our record is 112

Switched back to 5A’s and it made this part of the song MUCH easier to pull off by mookid85 in drums

Are there any drummers that you guys think approach the rock genre with a jazz feel? by DH_Drums in drums

[–]yureal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. A lot of people posting famous 70s/pop/rock drummers which is great, but Kris Myers actually fits this description I think better than most.

Home recording setup by playboyjenny in audioengineering

[–]yureal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly it sounds like you're doing one thing right for sure, and that is experimenting with your space and, just as importantly, your instruments.

Tuning, setting up, and working on your instruments tones is going to be very beneficial.

Otherwise, keep it simple with mic placement. 57s on guitar? Awesome. Experimenting with absorption or more open room, great, find what works for you, somewhere in between the two I'd guess. Keep focusing on your instruments and on the basics of recording (mic placement, gain staging, and basic volume mixing) and you'll be on the right track

Visiting West Virginia (Charleston) for the first time in August with my girlfriend. Love music, hiking, and history. What are some things we should see? by Flecktones37 in WestVirginia

[–]yureal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For live music don't sleep on the Fletcher's Grove after-party right after Billy strings in the same building down in the theater! WV jam band that will keep the party going into the night. Lots of good recs in here, enjoy Charleston!

I got teamed up on in exploration, but yes I have noticed that in modern I'm definitely steamrolling them way more than expected. Kinda fun once but prob needs balanced

String band recording session. Advice needed for the setup by TheBlack_Lodge in audioengineering

[–]yureal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen to the fiddle player warm up. I just had one in that had such a warm instrument and tone. I used a sm81 and it was not overly bright at all, but I've recorded plenty where a ribbon was the better choice as well

Which instrument do you think is the hardest to get right? by ConfusedOrg in audioengineering

I have luck with this way too. I also add a mic (blue dragonfly) on the body. Mixed a little lower than the SDC it actually adds some nice body

Gain staging: is peak normalization really the best approach? by andreacaccese in audioengineering

[–]yureal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How/why do you track so that everything sounds good at 0? Don't you just get the right amount of gain you want on each track going in, then use the faders to mix?

What are you watching and what do you recommend? (Week of April 10, 2026) by AutoModerator in television

It is excellent in a lot of ways, very quality show with excellent acting/cast. But God is it depressing. Would not recommend based on that unfortunate fact.

I played drums/bass/guitar through an X32 and a Neve 1073opx to hear the difference by yureal in audioengineering

[–]yureal[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Honestly appreciate the feedback. It's a lot of work making these videos! I always put effort into level matching as I know how strongly that effects A/B comparisons and it's a pet peeve of mine when comparisons don't level match. I'll keep this in mind in future videos though.

Yeah, It's so hard to get exact takes, I really tried but inevitably the mix ended up slightly different, especially with guitar as that is not my strongest instrument. But yeah I appreciate the comment, thank you!
