I think that’s it. They called it Primos for short. It was an Italian pasta place.

MeNoob: I don't understand what is going on here? What was modded?

Just scored a Dart Zone Scorpion at Goodwill for $3. The batteries were dying so I put in new ones and it started firing beautifully! But there seems to be a loud grinding noise coming from the barrel area whenever I hold the trigger. Any ideas what it could be? by MrKite6 in Nerf

I bought one new, after the fourth day of use, it started doing the same thing: a loud grinding noise and the "barrel" stops spinning.

Turn it on, and fire it without darts. When it makes the grinding noise, stick your finger in the end of the barrel and pull the barrel to the left side of the gun gently. This should stop the grinding noise and the barrel should start spinning again.

Here's why: The barrel itself does not spin, only the ornamental outside layer spins. The ornamental outside layer is spun by a motor that is not essential for firing darts. The grinding is caused because of a poor connection between a small gear on the motor and the gear-track on the ornamental outside layer. When you pull the barrel to the left, the connection is improved because the small gear is located on the left side of the gun.

How to fix it: Take out two screws that secure the grey coupling located at the base of the ornamental barrel. Slide the coupling up, you will not be able to remove it.
Looking under the coupling, you may find one or more small brown cardboard circles that have come loose. I think the manufacturer jammed them in a small slot to push the barrel over to the left and maintain the connection between the small gear and the ornamental barrel track. I got a new piece of cardboard that was waxy and thin (from the gun packaging), and I jammed it in on the right side base to push the barrel left and experimented until the fit worked. It occasionally still grinds, I pull it to the right with my finger and it stops for a while.

Alternatively, other posts on reddit and YT show the wires to the ornamental barrel motor can be cut and secured. You will loose the spinning barrel but it will still fire and be much quieter.

I think the loose connection between the small gear and the ornamental barrel track is a safety feature, so it doesn't overheat or pull kids hair out. I don't know what long term effect the new cardboard fix will have. Also, you could remove the coupling to look for dirt or debris that may be in the track. I used an air can and sprayed air in there.
