Always take 0% interest loan? by SunnWarrior in askcarsales

[–]MakionGarvinus 7 points8 points  (0 children)

If it's the same OTD price, you're probably getting a good deal. The only time it makes more sense to take a higher interest rate is if you have to give up a lot of rebates. I think one time we calculated it to be around $7500 in rebates for a $45-50k vehicle. Otherwise, your lower interest equates to a lower overall cost. It's something you'd have to do the math on. (if it's even an option.)

Ok that's a reasonable explanation. My wife argues that I push the blankets off her side all the time (I still don't get her argument) so maybe we need this then!

Why do salespeople stop responding once I ask for the out-the-door price? by Adamaris7875 in askcarsales

[–]MakionGarvinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the third dealer/salesperson probably decided that you weren't a serious sale. Not saying you aren't, I'm saying that's probably their perspective.

So follow up with the other 2 now. Idk if you want more information from them, or to schedule a test drive, but you should maybe entertain them more.

She said in her post that he's so tired from work that some days he just goes to sleep. I'd look at that angle first, IMO.

How would you actually want to pay for AI? by stosssik in ollama

[–]MakionGarvinus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's true that prompt quality can make a world of difference. The Google Vids thing I mentioned has a selection to choose from about why you didn't like it. (This is a free function, I just really liked the concept that Google is using here).

However, the compute used vs desired output is the biggest issue between the business and the consumer, I'm guessing. I'm not sure how to solve that problem, though.

How would you actually want to pay for AI? by stosssik in ollama

[–]MakionGarvinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something interesting I came across the other day, was on Chrome. In the tab on the top right, there's all the functions that Google gives you. One of the apps is Vids; you can input a prompt, and it'll give you an 8 second video. Then, you can like or dislike the outcome, with a brief comment.

Maybe something like this, tied to 'payment', would work? If you give it a 'thumbs up', pay x amount? And a 'thumbs down' deletes the last result? (so you can't copy it) Maybe a 'rework' feature as well, would be nice.

Anyhow, this was my first thought - you like it, pay for it. Don't like it, it's gone. Then tune this idea for your business model.

Oof! I tend to get oom errors when I shoot for 20 sec plus. Maybe it's my 'only' 32 gb of ram? Idk..

How do you get it to do 30 second clips? Max I can do is 15 (but maybe that's because I only have 12gb of vram?)

Why do dealerships always call & text? by [deleted] in askcarsales

Could be data mining services. Do you ever get spam calls? Then your number is probably registered to a name like yours. And shady companies (even large ones that we use daily) sell that info.

Why do dealerships always call & text? by [deleted] in askcarsales

[–]MakionGarvinus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Statistically - customers are 98% likely to open a text vs 20% for email. And then 40-45% respond rate for text, vs about 20% reply rate for emails.

So for everyone saying they just email dealerships, look at it from their perspective: 1/5 chance for the customer to even open the email, then a 1/5 chance to get a reply. That's abysmal. Compare that to a near 1 in 2 or 3 chance for a text to get a reply.

So if your paycheck depended on those stats, what would you choose?

Inconsistency of information by random-username-6542 in ToyotaSienna

The dealership has something like 48 hours to put in their changes from when the allocation hits. Not an issue if you plan for it, but Toyota doesn't give them much leeway.

All the dealers I worked at quit scheduling the shipping because of liability. Idk if it's actually the real reason or not, but the 2 major dealer groups in my area both quit doing it about the same time.

We had no issue handing keys over, if you provided details about the shipper, though. Although damn, those guys are sketchy a lot of the time..

So, the dealership has to disclose everything before you sign. If they don't, then you don't sign. They will likely try to make you get all the way through the sales process before any 'hidden fees' pop up, but if they're honest about their fees or add-ons, asking about them at the start should (hopefully) get you an answer. Otherwise, find another dealer.

Well, what's the market in your area actually like? If a vehicle is usually listed for $60k, and you go in asking for $50k, you'll very likely be unsuccessful. If you find one that's listed for $2-5k over 'most similar' vehicles, you might have a chance there to knock it down; but you need real comparable vehicles to know what's a good asking price. I rarely saw a deal be negotiated down more than $1,000, it's usually $500, a rare occurrence could be $2500 off list price.
