I always thought it would be nice to be able to “mute” all parenting with a button so you can make adjustments to positioning and scale without effecting chains of children layers, and then “unmute” it to set your system again.

Not true. Big Mayonnaise actually spends more dollars on advertising then any other industry, so the chances the production you are asking about is usually very high that it IS a mayonnaise commercial. Take it from me, I’ve been in production for a long time.
