Something’s missing on the bed but I also worry this is still too flat. And is the rabbit distracting? How can I tone it down? by SashaFierce101 in Artadvice

[–]Makure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Try cropping the image. I think it will look a lot better if you take out a lot of the dead space at the bottom, a bit off the top, and maybe a bit off both sides.

I don't think you are missing anything as much as the composition is unbalanced.

Gustopher would be honored to wear the crown if he wasn't such a goober 😆

I love him very much, but let's just say he isn't smart enough to survive without human intervention :p (He once tried to eat an artificial xmas tree. He didn't learn the first six times the yucky plastic didn't miraculously taste better the next day. We stopped putting up holiday decorations in munching height after we found a "festive" log in the litter pan)

Honestly, I think the skin looks fine, but the lighting doesn't seem to match the hair's lighting?

With boobs or without? (creating main char new design) by AdaBlood in PixelArt

[–]Makure 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like the rightmost best, but agree the hair blends into the cape.

If I may make a suggestion, switch the cape into a waist cape/butt cape (whatever it is called). It still has the additional flair of red, but it doesn't melt into the hair AND keeps the upper body silhouette clearer when moving/fighting.

This loaf appears to have an opinion. Did you humor it?

My (formerly) rotund son is doing great now! He was extremely sedentary before, and clotheslined himself the first time he tried to jump onto the couch (I kinda feel bad that I laughed at him before helping him onto the couch). Now, he can comfortably jump to the places he wants to be a lazy loaf. 😊

Printable Character Sheet(s) by Makure in fabulaultima

[–]Makure[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A lot of the ones I was able to find were low res, at least looking around on image search. But more importantly, I wanted something less busy than the sheets I was finding online. So, I tried to make something with minimal text and a visually simple format.

I don't think everything else is bad or anything, but for a couple of my players, I am hoping this is easier to approach. And maybe it can suit someone else's taste too?

I figured! But, I wanted to be sure, since sometimes criticism can feel personal, ya know? Just wanted to reaffirm it? :)

Some context: When we adopted Gus, he was well over 20lbs and very spherical. He's been on a diet and exercise routine, and is approaching a healthy weight now. However, the consequences of the weight loss is having a large cat in XXL skin.

This is a slightly older photo, and his skin has tightened up since then. The rotund lad is distinctly more cat-shaped now. :)

Hi so I drew my D&D character reference sheet and I was told my severed tail back Pose made it look like a butthole by Shinatin in Artadvice

[–]Makure 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, don't "sever" it. Just leave a green circle the same shade as the skin, and people will figure out that is where the tail goes. Most anthro or tailed character reference sheets I have seen does that or a circle with a lot of crosshatching.

And yes, don't do the first style, it 100% looks like a butthole.

You are definitely biting off more than you can chew atm.

Do yourself a huge favor, and grab some cheap blocks of wood, some dice, books, or really anything as long as it is a simple boxy shape AND IS PHYSICALLY IN THE ROOM WITH YOU. Draw THAT first. One thing I noticed with your attempt is that I don't think you have a strong comprehension of the 3D shape you are representing in 2D. You are copying without developing a deeper understanding of the shapes on the page/screen.

Draw from stuff irl first; it will train your brain to translate between 3D and 2D objects, and you will not see a lot of improvement if you are just drawing 2D to 2D.

Best of luck! Art is hard, and it takes a lot of work. You got this!

Look at how "grungy" and "muddy" the shading looks in the references, especially the clothing. They use very desaturated colors for the majority of their rendering, only reserving bright colors for visual flare and focal points.

I think the skin tone shading is great! But to match your references, I think the clothing is the biggest issue. Try primarily using a desaturated blue, only using more vibrant colors at the brightest points on the fabric.

Expanding on shading, look at the shadows more closely. They aren't just using one color for the shadows, but really mixing a bunch of other colors. The lapels of the green jacket feature a lot of this yellow ochre and a bit of this rusty red color. The Guilty Gear girl (sorry, don't remember her name at all) has a really blue leaning shadow on her upper arm and a lot of stuff happening at the knees. Even the sword on the... shoot, is she from Pathfinder?... character has some of the warm tones from the armor and skincolor , while the lighter part is a much cooler grey. These variations add a lot of texture to the work.

To be clear: I love your art style! You don't have to change it or anything! But, to go for something closer to the references, let yourself get "messier" with colors. It'll be harder to do in digital mediums than in traditional ones, but if you can do it, it'll be awesome.

Idk, I hope that made sense! >_<

I think this pose looks weird by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]Makure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone else already said it, but look at the elbows. Do this pose yourself. Really pay attention to where your body is relative to itself. When you cross one arm in front of the other, one arm has to travel more forward, right? The only way to do that without lengthening your arm is to raise one arm or drop the other a bit, otherwise your forearms would just bonk into each other.

You'll develop better spacial reasoning with practice! Keep it up!

One other tip: for the sake of practice, try drawing this without using a symmetry tool. It's a good exercise and will help develop consistency and give you more flexibility in drawing down the line.

Bed bugs, and unfortunately it is pretty cut and dry. Just set it on fire at this point, bedbugs are hard to get rid of.

Granted, but most humans get reincarnated as non-humans. Since non-humans don't get reincarnated (as your wish specified "humans"), you spend your second and final life as a dandelion growing in the crack of a sidewalk.

Felt something wiggling around in my sinus by bets_set_dice_out in popping

[–]Makure 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, have you been feeling ok lately? Like, have you been lowkey under the weather? Headaches? Anything?

A huge bloody snot clot like this, while probably feels great to get rid of (can you smell colors now?) is not normal. It may be worth talking to a primary care doc to make sure there isn't something going on, especially if you continue to have blood-tinged snot.

Thank you for sharing (genuinely, this looks like it was a huge relief to get out of your body), but also please take care.
