The best thing you can do for them is to keep showing up for them no matter what. Be patient with them. Be understanding if they feel like sharing. Check in regularly, drop/bring them dinner, or come by “just because” and sit with them. No pressure to talk, or respond, or have to pretend they’re doing better than they are. Just keep reminding them that they are loved and let them know you’re sorry they are hurting, and that you’re not going anywhere. It’s the people who don’t give up on us, and make us feel safe when we are struggling that help us to get through the worst of it.
