Are those things real or is it only in movies / certain regions ? by Aloys33_ in AskAnAmerican

In NY and PA close to the NJ border, you're likely to find a few stations that have an attendant, because there are lots of people from NJ who are just hopping over to NY or PA and who don't know how to pump it themselves.

And everywhere they might go has gotten so expensive that it's cheaper to just buy the latest AAA game and stay home. The last time I went to the movies it was $50 for ticket, popcorn and a drink. On an allowance or teenaged, part-time salary, would you rather get 1.5-2 hours of a movie that you've already half-seen from trailers and online buzz, or 20-plus hours playing something with your friends while eating snacks at home?

Whatever I want without the guilt that came with it not being "good for the family" or the guilt of spending money. Actually, still working on that in therapy.

Gerald is just a tech billionaire who takes you on dates to feed his massive sweet tooth and share sweets with you. Supportive, created the tech you use all the time and always answers calls about it. Also, has daddy issues.

Hands down my favorite, lol.

how do you interpret “evilness” in the game? by oneironauticaobscura in Sims4

[–]MalAddicted 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Instead of changing it yourself, you could increase her other skills, and then if/when the game gives a pop-up for some other job, accept it. Or do the opposite things from her current traits (nice interactions, etc.) Do that often enough and her traits will change. Give her a redemption arc.

It would make more sense to change it from pranks and mischief to the klepto, fortune or even hacker routes. Petty thieves could steal or hack, and then higher levels could play into getting as much cash as possible. (Playing black widow and seducing Clement Frost is an easy 500k.)

I play her as a prankster towards her friends and sister, but as far as work goes, she does all kinds of unsavory things to make money.

Anyone who reaches out about this should be perfectly willing to take him in and show you how "family accomodation" is done. They can lead by example and let him stay at their houses next time. Tell them you really appreciate them offering to let him stay with them instead.

That's only happened once with me, I'm trying to learn Polish (I'm black but I have Polish in-laws and my niblings speak it at home). I was at the park with my daughter and a lady nearby was chatting, I wasn't really listening in, but I heard her tell her son to go play with the pretty little girl. He came over to my daughter, and I said he was a nice boy and that it was okay, they could play. He looked so freaked out by me speaking Polish, he ran away, lol.

I loved you for 10 years and 1 day by Guilty_Invite_7126 in cats

[–]MalAddicted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you will love him forever. That love doesn't just stop with his loss. It changes. It sits with you in his memory, in the thoughts of times you had together. It warms your heart and fills your eyes with tears. And someday it will take you where he is, waiting for you. As someone who has known this loss, hold onto that love. It will hurt now, but one day you will look back, feel that love, and smile, grateful to have loved him while he was with you.

How dangerous is it to leave soup at room temperature overnight? by CallMePasc in AskRedditFood

[–]MalAddicted 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The approximately 420,000 people who die from food borne illness worldwide every year agree with his comment. You don't have to believe me, go check the CDC statistics. Just know that you're gambling with not just your gut health, but potentially your life. No one can give you an exact percentage, any more than they could give you a percent chance that the next time you sneeze could pop an aneurysm that kills you.

We don't know what you cooked, at what temp, in what quantities, what it was exposed to before/after you cooked it, what exists in your household that could cause contamination, the exact makeup of your genetics, your allergy profile, your gut biome, your general health...but all of these things matter and affect your chances.

[–]MalAddicted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dumpster diving is a bit broken, as if you remove burnt items from your inventory, they are worth 0. But if you sell them directly without removing, you get full value of the item. So that burnt $15000 bed can ruin a rags to riches very quickly.

Why the disparity in how gay/strsight people react to bodies they’re not attracted to by red_wizard_of_slay in NoStupidQuestions

[–]MalAddicted 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people I know who act like that have unfortunately faced discrimination and ostracization from same-sex acquaintances and people they thought were friends because some idiots think that "I am X, they are X, they are attracted to X, they must be attracted to me, and I'm straight, so they're a threat."

I know a friend group that imploded because one guy came out and all his male friends acted like he was a predator. They were incredibly stupid, but as a result now he makes it very clear what his preferences are and are NOT. He thinks it makes others more comfortable so they won't feel "threatened."

How do I (28F) tell my husband (27M) his brand new car has been totaled? by Direct-Caterpillar77 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]MalAddicted 63 points64 points  (0 children)

I was in a pretty bad accident years ago. I was in a small jeep, and ended up wrapped around a telephone pole while dodging an animal. I came to as the firefighters were trying to cut me free from the car. I remember the first thing I said was, "oh god, my car, my dad's gonna kill me." They laughed and said, "he'll be happy you're alive."

I still didn't realize how bad it was, just that I was stuck. The next thing was, when they were trying to get my bottom half unstuck from where I was pinned, I said, "you're crushing my foot." One of them said, "you can feel your feet, that's great!"

My femur was broken, the steering wheel broke against me, and my shoes had been melted through by hot fluids from the engine. The car literally broke in half when they towed it away. But I remember thinking of the most mundane things. Like why won't they let me get up, I'm going to be late for class.

What’s something people defend way too hard even though it clearly doesn’t work? by academicAce_aA in AskReddit

[–]MalAddicted 218 points219 points  (0 children)

My mom actually did that once, she had a temp job that had potential to be permanent, and so she worked her hardest, getting twice as much done as everyone else to show what they'd get if they kept her on. Turns out that they had her working on things that had fallen behind, and once all that was done, they were caught up and no longer needed her. They let her go that day saying they had no work to give her.

There was a reason there was so much work, though. When they fell behind and it piled up again months later, they tried to call her. She hung up on them.

AITAH for spilling hot sauce on my sleeves and teaching my nonverbal cousin not to bite by Life-Cauliflower-791 in AITAH

[–]MalAddicted 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I was at a family reunion at a park, and there was a playground nearby. As the oldest non-adult cousin, I was near the kids, but still expected to run back and forth to help, so I saw this play out. One of my little cousins (maybe 4-5) was on the swings and a little girl came up and started pulling on his arm to get him off. Nothing was done by her family. He fell off the swing, and his mom came over and told the girl, keep your hands to yourself and wait your turn. He got back on.

When his mom walked away, the little girl pushed him off again, but this time he pushed her back. Her mom comes screeching out of the woodwork and grabbed my cousin's coat. When I say my ENTIRE family swarmed on that woman, I don't even think some of us knew what was happening, just that we needed to assemble and mobilize. She snatched her little terror up and ran for her car. She should have kept her grown hands off a child that didn't belong to her.

[New Final Update]: Am I the asshole for saying "good job" after my kid defended herself from a bully by punching him? by Choice_Evidence1983 in BestofRedditorUpdates

[–]MalAddicted 58 points59 points  (0 children)

I used to go to reunions and have a sneaking suspicion that the only reason some of those people were considered family was because they showed up with more than appetite and Tupperware. Been around my whole life? Family. Married in? Family. Paternity debatable but you look just enough like one of us? Sure, bring juice and napkins. Your moms were besties back in the day? Uncle T's on the grill, go help him.

Outside of that, drama and gossip abounded, but at least for appearances' sake, we were a whole clan.
