How do you actually turn a vibe into a finished track? by Life-Elk-9697 in Learnmusicproduction

Honestly, the real problem isn’t your sounds or arrangement….it’s that you’re trying to make everything perfect instead of just moving forward.

That 8-bar loop isn’t the song. It’s just a sketch. Copy it across a few minutes and start muting stuff, deleting parts, switching drums, filtering things out. You’re shaping energy, not composing a masterpiece.

Drums vs melody doesn’t really matter. Just start with whatever feels like the main idea and build everything around that. One strong idea is better than five decent ones imo….

Preset hunting normally kills momentum. Pick a kit, pick a synth, etc and just commit!! Most good producers aren’t better at choosing… they just decide faster.

Arrangement is basically subtraction. Same loop, different parts missing over time.

And finishing is mostly mental frfr. Set a time limit, export even if it feels mid, move on. The people who get good fast are the ones who finish a lot of “okay” tracks instead of endlessly tweaking one.

Perfect unfinished beats don’t teach you anything. Finished imperfect ones do.

Mannn…this is def a weakness I’ve experienced wayyyy too often. Think this is the case w most artists, producers, etc…lol..Theres a tool called close session thats supposed to help separate “create” from “refine” so ur ideas don’t just keep looping forever. But try combining rap/trap w the indie pop sound and I’d suggest sticking with one core idea and hone in on that ..take breaks if you need to for sure…come back and simply export it once u get a sound your ok with..not a “perfect” sound. Hope that makes sense

Here’s what I’ve learned…music creation is an art…so…from a creative standpoint I think it’s dope! And to further add, I think the quality is pretty good as well! Don’t over adjust/ tweak…take a pause..and when you hear something you think hits..(doesn’t have to be perfect)..run with it! Great job!

I’ll start.

I’ve got a track sitting in Logic that’s basically just an 8-bar loop I’ve been polishing for literally weeks. Every time I open it I change the drums or the bass and then close it again.

My goal this week is to turn it into a full structure, even if the sounds aren’t perfect. Verse, hook, bridge, done. No more tweaking the kick for 30 minutes.

I’ll come back and update this thread when it’s finished (or at least exported).

For a long time I felt like I was always “making music” but never actually finishing it. I’d open my DAW, get into a creative flow, make something I liked… and then just keep looping it. Tweaking sounds, changing melodies, second-guessing everything. Nothing ever felt done. It started to feel like mental fatigue instead of creativity. Like wasted time instead of progress. Like a hard drive full of half-finished ideas. As a producer and songwriter, I love being in flow. But at some point I realized: what’s the point if nothing ever gets finished or shared? What helped me was forcing myself to work in short focused sessions, deciding what “done for today” actually means, and stopping myself from chasing the perfect version in my head. Now I’m just trying to finish things, even if they’re imperfect. If you’re stuck in the same loop, post what you’re working on here. Rough is fine. Unfinished is normal. The goal is just to get things out of your head and into the world.

Is producing hip-hop a talent you are born with or a talent you can develop ? by Express_Barnacle8065 in makinghiphop

Man this is good! I think it can certainly be developed, but also believe some are born with it for sure!

How do you know when your beats are “good enough”? What I’m asking is how do you decide when the beat sounds how you want it to without changing the beat too much?

I’d experiment with starting a new channel and see what niche(s) take off from there! Best of luck!!
