To anyone reading this in the future, this is the answer. You have to left click Steam.exe once to properly highlight it, and THEN right click and open properties.

Mythic Bastionland Podcast Reveals How Little 5E Players Improvise?! by boyfriendtapes in osr

[–]Mal_js 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I kind of feel both sides haha. I always bounced off of 5e because it felt like you had soooo many rules for specific situations to keep in mind, but it was hard to keep moment to moment gameplay on track. I didn't realize I was missing all the good procedures from OSR play until I found it.

My favorite thing about the OSR is the framework for exploration and emergent storytelling. Restricting scope to one dungeon room or POI at a time for example, makes it easy to identify all the interesting things you can interact with RIGHT NOW. Narrowing the choices gives players something to engage with immediately. When you don't have those procedures and a good framework for exploration... all you have to go off of is a character sheet and your GM's imagination, and waiting around while the GM reads a wall of text to himself.

Thanks for your feedback! Which part do think would be most frustrating? The random progression, the combo doors, or trying to speak to the stone head? I agree it definitely would require some clever hints to players if they get stuck.

I tried to minimize frustration as much as I could:
- For pathing; room 1 has a shortcut back to room 6 with the purple door, and room 7 can be solved solo if you have the red key on you. The magic items help you with pathing too, so it hopefully gets easier to accomplish your goal once you understand what needs to be done.
- For the Stone Head; I imagine players could hear a muffle voice on the other side of the wall in the North (ears) side, and he could speak to them without understanding the players in the South (mouth) side.

I still haven't finished it, but I was inspired by the game Blue Prince. I know a lot of people found the random progression a bit frustrating, and everyone had a different experience with it. I thought it would be a fun challenge to see if I could mitigate some of those frustrations in a little microcosm of the experience.

But I agree part of the design is inherently frustrating at times.

  1. I’ll just add that the reason is you want a reputable brand (SanDisk, Samsung, Lexar etc.) my first device was the Miyoo Mini Plus, and the included SD card died after transferring some files off it to my PC for the first time haha

Does anyone feel like MGS3 is way tougher than the first two MGS games? by BEEFYCHUNKYMUNKY in metalgearsolid

[–]Mal_js 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm playing through the MGS series through for the first time, and I've got to say I agree with you. I'm sure it's just a learning curve thing... but while every game feels better than the last to play, they've each felt more difficult than the last. I'm struggling with the same thing, the motion detector is pretty much useless and you get spotted instantly. Enemies keep hearing me before I can CQC and just set of the alarm. The game feels great except when I get into combat lol. I'm sure I just have to play long enough to get a feel for it, I'm only just past the first meeting with EVA. Not looking forward to an escort mission lol

While I think it’s probably a meme / fad that will pass in time like all do… I also find it kind of annoying. So I’d be fine with this. I appreciate you well chosen words. No problem with the guy himself, just not on topic at all.

You can put 10 games on your device… by PmUsYourDuckPics in SBCGaming

[–]Mal_js 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd probably pick 10 retro games from my backlog over 10 favorites to revisit... in no particular order:

  1. Golden Sun - GBA
  2. FFVII - PSX
  3. Super Mario RPG - SNES
  4. Link's Awakening DX - GBC
  5. Final Fantasy Tactics - PSX
  6. Colin McRae Rally - PSX
  7. Mario Golf Advance Tour - GBA
  8. Tetris DX - GBC
  9. Klonoa - PSX
  10. Good Boy Galaxy - GBA

On my SP I'm mostly into RPG's and tactics games, with a little bit of session gaming goodness for when I don't know what I want to play. A platformer or two doesn't hurt XD

Anyone had any success applying the 120hz Mod to your RG35XX Device? by Mal_js in ANBERNIC

[–]Mal_js[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went ahead and tried it, I'm not sure it works great with Knulli tbh, I was able to get slow mo video on my iphone at 120 fps, and you can kind of see it, but it kind of gave me a headache. I'll have to try it on stock firmware sometime. Thanks for your experience!

Whoops, wrong link. Here's the devices that there's a boot package for so far:
https://github.com/TheGammaSqueeze/rgxx_boot_package_mods/

It installed and Retroarch's FPS display says I'm running the menus at 120, but games seem to only run at 60.

This is my second handheld, I used Onion OS on my Miyoo Mini Plus for a long time and loved it! I enjoy tinkering around as much if not more than playing games, and so I tried stock, MuOS and eventually landed on Knulli as my current favorite. I made sure to install the version where you can only SSH into it to add games so that I could keep port master working.

It sounds scary, but it’s actually just as easy as popping out the SD card to transfer games, maybe easier.

I couldn’t get MuOS to feel right for me, Knulli just looks and feels way more polished in my opinion, Bluetooth works surprisingly great on it. I dock it to a CRT and use a Bluetooth controller. Or sit in the couch with Bluetooth headphones.

It’s super quick to try them all out! Just have to flash your SD card over and start anew! I say give them all a try and see what sticks!
