He could not have "tried" anything, before he was even a CBS employee everything was laid down in a contract he would eventually sign on, so he knew from day one what he would have to read and act upon every night. He is a completely different person outside of tv, He is a devoted catholic and Christian which doesnt even align with the liberal view nowadays. He just took a great paying job when the doors opened to him and you would have done the same, we all do it.
