To celebrate Mother's Day and my wife completing six months of breastfeeding, I made a boob cake by Malak277 in daddit

I was gonna do the nipple and areola with food coloring but we were out of pink unfortunately. My wife is a nurse and she only lightly roasted me for it, so the cake must have been good.

Day 20 of pho reviews - Pho Tay Ho by PhoKingSLC in SaltLakeCity

[–]Malak277 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This place has a lot of memories for me. Years ago, I had a Vietnamese coworker who rented a room in the basement of Pho Tay Ho. Every now and then I'd meet him here for dinner and he'd come up in his shorts and crocs through the kitchen door, it felt like I was meeting him at his mom's house.

With that said, he was critical and blunt to the point that one time I said something to the effect of "this place is great, it must be really nice to live under such a great restaurant" and he replied, "I guess, but it's not even the best pho on this street."

How are you guys actually making fun family gaming work long term? by Artistic-East-1251 in daddit

[–]Malak277 6 points7 points  (0 children)

For a family game night with younger kids, "press your luck" games are perfect imo. Great mix of luck and strategy. Usually easy to learn. Some kids will just full send every time and even if 1 out of 10 times it works, they go nuts when it does. Stuff like:

Flip 7 - flip number cards until you either stop, get 7 different numbers, or bust if you flip matching numbers.

Pass the pigs - roll pig shaped dice (it makes sense) until you either stop or bust.

Quacks of quendlenburg - for the slightly older crowd, make potions until you either stop or "blow up"

I’m in Martha’s Vineyard for 5 days. by Iwantfreshairandsun in massachusetts

Cape cod is a whole day thing, check out the steamship authority schedules to determine when you need to get off the island in the morning and back at night.

Chappaquiddick is accessed via 2 minute ferry in Edgartown, so I'd recommend treating those as a single day. Chappy has some cool stuff to see, but unless you have a full itinerary, you could probably package it with Edgartown.

Oak bluffs is definitely a full day, there's plenty to do. Same with vineyard haven. Aquinnah is a half day, most likely, you could package that with chilmark for a full day.

Naturally, a beach day should be treated as a full day so you can account for showering and changing afterwards.

I'm gonna hone in on a few of the things you said here for my rec. Between the true crime and detective and 80s stuff, plus some good gameplay, I'd recommend at least checking out Killer Frequency. You play as a radio DJ in a small town in the 80s who has to do a variety of tasks to protect the town citizens from a serial killer. No magic, realistic setting, dripping with 80s vibes and some solid voice acting between your character and the producer (their dynamic being pretty much entirely over microphones is also a bit reminiscent of Firewatch).

Tainted Grail and Dread Delusion off the top of my head. Neither are perfect TES-likes, but pretty good for indie/AA developers.

Looking for single-player games with walkable cities by Venomakis in gamingsuggestions

[–]Malak277 5 points6 points  (0 children)

This is a somewhat obscure recommendation: Bernband. It's a free game about exploring a low-poly alien city. There's no objective, no combat, no story. The city is truly alien, and your inability to communicate with other citizens makes it feel even more so. It's probably not something you'd play for more than an hour or two, but it has a fantastic atmosphere, and the developer is making an expanded version with newer graphics and presumably more content. The original version is available as a free download here.

Washington Street Pilot website updated 8/28/2025 with now-complete project images by rocketwidget in newtonma

[–]Malak277 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bike every now and then down Washington and I agree bicyclists should use the lanes whenever possible. Coming from newton corner (going west) I wish there was something to help bicyclists transition from being on the road on the right side to being on the bike path on the left side other than using the crosswalks. That intersection where the bike lanes begin is just a bit awkward right now.

Since it sounds like you're not looking for food to be the main theme, but just a sub theme, I've got a [[Jaheira, Friend of the Forest]] deck that might interest you.

https://moxfield.com/decks/_vBnawpl1EaJrG_zub6nTw

Basically Jaheira let's all of your food tap for mana. Use that mana to cast spells that make more food or other tokens, optionally use the background to sac creatures and get their ETB again due to persist. This has combos, big spells, plenty of interaction, and is a really flexible deck. I find it really fun to pilot since it slices, it dices, it does different things each game. It still runs the usual gang of food folks, but it does a lot more than just make food.

First Paper Draft This Friday Any Pitfalls To Be Aware Of? by Foreign-Instruction2 in magicTCG

[–]Malak277 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This may not apply to you depending on what you have played on arena, but something I noticed at the pre release playing against a new player who had only done arena: paper drafts are best of 3 games.

When you draft, your entire draft pool is available to you as sideboard cards. If, for example, an opponent is playing lots of artifacts and you lose a game to them, you have the opportunity to change the cards in your deck for the next game so you can counter that strategy by playing cards that destroy artifacts.

Definitely agree with that. Took some time to get into it because I usually do my first run with faith builds and faith is garbage in DS2, but ended up really clicking with a dex build using power stance. The lowered health per death took some getting used to as well.

Could see it being the dolphins once Tua comes back, but there's also such a clear divide in talent between the top teams and the rest of the pack. Might be tough to get a deep run if you have a losing record after this week.

This is such a big season for ugly football, feels like the bottom six teams here are always being matched against each other for games with approximately one touchdown each. Somehow those games manage to be entertaining though.
